  1. indeed onion, indeed.
  2. martin You seem to have a one-track mind on the forum about financial matters.... you must be interested in other things?? as for ethical banking, I agree with Dom. I would start with transparent banking as a wish - then I could have a look at the "ethics" behind some of the investments/decisions
  3. But that's exactly the problem - people think they know how (for example) a middle class/working class person thinks/behaves/etc and may have inbuilt prejudices accordingly and the react to that person in an inappropriate way - when the reality is usually far away from that To take a more frivilous example - TV Guide magazines categorize films (as you point out) as "thriller", "action", "romance" etc That in no way tells you if they are any good. But if you allow categories/stereotypes to influence your thinking you will dismiss a potential classic in favour of a shite preference... Only by discarding prejudices/stereotypes/categories can we make progress as a species.... *sigh* once again, only in my opinion of course And Mockney - ANY excuse with you isn't it??
  4. Things are bad. Very bad I have realised that the number of posts I have made on here is not far off my Xbox Gamerscore - and part of me thought about synching them up.... Time to go away and have a good hard look at myself
  5. I agree with your sentiment Cassius, but unfortunately I'm not sure NO-ONE likes being stereotyped. And even more people actually like stereotyping other people It's lazy thinking if you ask me but it's fairly widespread. I hate it myself and on a good day with the wind behind me, could actually lay most of the evils of the world at it's door...
  6. sounds pretty common from what I've read on here KK - I've only ordered once and was lucky with the time, but the food just wasn't worth the extra expense anyway...
  7. the acoustics in THE UPLANDS PUB/RESTAURANT are equally bad Brendan Just rarely full enough to be tested...
  8. if I have time for proper grub I always head to Iznik Iznik much handier for the old Highbuy obviously but still doable - and very good it is too The cafe on the corner of Holloway Road as you turn left out of H&I tube was a haunt as well other than that I can't vouch for anywhere else - soz
  9. I think the media companies do the demographic slicing loz I doubt any author or film director worth their salt is THAT market driven - they want to convert people as often as not, not pander to them
  10. I have a feeling it's going to be a great game... I would normally say good luck, but forgive me this time...
  11. I haven't been in the Gowlett when the DJ was playing so can't comment The acoustics in EDT are amazingly loud - I always had it down to the number of people nattering away and not the music tho Lord knows what it was like on New Year's Eve
  12. Sounds about right - I haven't had either of these but from using them in the past they never saved any effort or time, nor gave me any improvement in quality
  13. no you're correct Keef - they definitely are part of HSBC. But they offer a completely different service and would recommend them to everyone Of course, if ethical concerns over HSBC are a problem then that won't sway you. But if you have had bad service from HSBC* then trust me first direct are miles apart. And changing bank accounts is far, far easier than I ever imagined it to be - I was expecting direct debits and cheques to go awol and bounce everywhere... not a bit of it *next time I'll notice which bank someone is already giving out about - sorry Keef
  14. confession time was probably an over-bold statement. substitute "fact is" - and it sounds better I think Still can't get old-fashioned nice white bread anywhere tho - will try the suggestions on here
  15. I Am Legend = a eunuch
  16. put that way it makes more sense - shame I'll miss Friday night now and the opportunity to have a pint and an honest laugh ;-) oops now we are off-topic and I can hear the administrator's footsteps Re: the shop itself. It seems fine for what it does but it isn't offering anything new to the area from what I can see (re-checks the website to see if they sell breadmakers...)
  17. Die Hard 3? People don't seem to like that one so much but I like it a lot - watched it again just recently in fact But I wouldn't classify Die Hard as a blokes film and Love Actually as a girls film - I know plenty of both sexes who would choose the other
  18. true Dee is new - but the argument is as old as the hills and without any other frame of reference.... it was a very dismissive post in itself. I'm sure Dee is big enough to handle it and we can kiss and make up err.... right Dee?
  19. In a word - no. I used to go there to check it out and it was a good example of why traditional pubs are dying out. It might have been a laugh if you were known but otherwise..? And what's an honest laugh anyway when it's at home? Am I being dishonest by enjoying a pint in 72, EDT or Bishop? middle-class tat? yep, it mostly is. So? Compared to other kind of tat? Or empty shops? 4 wheeled to death? It isn't always the middle classes driving the vans and big cars which I am just as likely to be run over by
  20. Hmm - just downloaded Safari and logged in to the forum - everything looked tickedy boo with the "new" signs in all the right places
  21. Wish I'd thought of this one....
  22. I'm suspecting it's Safari It works fine on both Firefox and IE. And on my nokia phone's browser. Safari isn't necessarily a MAC thing - iut's available on Windows but if you can download Firefox hibbs I would recommend it And yes I sympathise - not knowing about the "new"s is frustrating
  23. you think? I don't know anyone who was born with one of those in their gob
  24. no to mention th eold adverts eh? Pat The Baker
  25. wee quinnie I know what you mean ;-) I do like a fair bit of the bread in EDD - the flutes are especially nice IMO. I'm less keen on sourdough (generally - not EDD's fault) and find the seedy ones in The Cheese Block a bit heavy Confession time: sometimes, all I want is a good, honest to jaysus proper white loaf. Toasted. With butter. The white loaves in Badger bakery are ok but I'm still not convinced. And any other pretend-white-loaves are gammy Plus it's nice to know you can just do these things - there might be a national baker strike at a moments notice!
