  1. This thread is timely as I was thinking about getting one (despite a tiny kitchen and an aversion of kitchen gadgets) but after Alan's advice I googled general recipes, found the Delia one and then within minutes Char1ie had summarised my whole plan... I suspect in this case the breadmaker takes more than enough of the faff out of things to make it worthwhile... but I will do it manually first Why not just buy a loaf? because all of them taste horrible these days and nothing like what I grew up with - and all for obvious reasons. There are a million articles online so I've picked one arbitrarily Yummy goodness
  2. echoing.....echoing...in myyyyyyyyyyyy mind.......
  3. char1ie was that a deliberate attempt at a gag? Back of the class me laddie
  4. So does the Castle And that's SE22 And very close to me
  5. Hibbs Good news - Bren, over to you! TO be honest hibbs I never book for EDF but because it's Stewart Lee I'm not taking any chances. Turning up is usually good enough (if it's by 8ish). Some nights have been packed, others very quiet The exception to all this is when Daniel Kitson does his mini-residences on Sunday nights. When they happen I have seen 200 people turned away, some from Sheffield and Scotland. I kid you not At the start of his second Sunday he mentioned the turnaways at the first night and that same night by saying "what's that all about... it's Sunday night in Forest Hill! If you're around, swing by.... but don't TRAVEL for it" Still some of the best nights I've had mind you aaaaaaanyway - see you Saturday. At the moment we plan to meet in The Hob at 7:30ish for a few downstairs first. If anyone else has any other suggestions however...
  6. The CD version of Metal Box always gets confused with Metalheadz collection in my house... Re Spiritualised - great cover, great album
  7. it won't go down well with some people on here at all! but it was always going to be that kind of retail space - given the permission that space has and the size it is, what would people prefer to see there if they don't like this kind of shop?
  8. Atila Agree completely about the phrase itself martinchiversfanclub - shhhhhhh! don't highlight the fact
  9. I didn't say it was - just suggested there was a shade/undercurrent. And not to your post but in way it's just TOO easy to reverse the phrase And do you honestly observe none when you are out and about? High standards indeed that man Kel - it probably varies from person to person. Some people expect Monica Belluci standard. Others are happy to anser the "would you?" question in the affirmative ;-)
  10. Bren I've just booked 8 tickets - we have 7 confirmed as yes (including Mark as of last night) with the 8th going to you unless someone comes in with another definite yes (at which point I'll still give you a final chance - fair?)
  11. oi - you never showed your face young lady!
  12. I've seen that mentioned by a few people on here (about YMs not being very Y) and have to take issue First it's a shade mysoginistic and secondly it's untrue. Many of the mum's I see out and about seem very nice indeed. And I've met several forumites who happen to be "mummies" as well who are well worth of the decription YM - so there
  13. There are people who simply won't believe this to be true.... I myself am slightly worried about the implications That trip from Friern to Barry Rd is SUCH a nightmare hibbs - what can I tell you ;-)
  14. have I missed something? I made about about a noisy afternoon and people are pointing me to 2 for one offers and calling people tight? Can anyone explain?
  15. Amen on the buses points barry my gripe - airport security. I have never ever ever bought into all of the "increased security" checks at airports since that thing in Nuevo Yorica happend - especially all of the hand-luggage 100 ml liquid stuff Am I to really believe no-one had thought of these things before? Of course not In any case, as of this week where some airports have relaxed these rules and some haven't, the whole thing is revealed as the shambles it really is Now - can I keep my belt, shoes and dignity the next time I go through teh gates please?
  16. The 2nd Curry Club evening last night was well attended for a January evening I thought - even if most of us were firmly in January form Mike P, Georgia, Allykat, Mark, Mr Georgia (until he registers that's all I'm going to call him even if he is a regular at every do!) Mockney Piers and myself made up the regulars while Mrs CitizenED, Hibbs (new to the area and forum - ish) and Hibb's flatmate (a harndened forum lurker from what I could tell) made up the new arrivals Curry Cabin was already pretty busy for a dark, miserable, cold, wet January Tuesday night so there was a fair bit of table shuffling going on to squeeze us in We were well looked after by the staff so big thanks to them. The menu isn't the most adventurous you will see and the standard was straight-down-the-line hight-st old-school curry house - but I did ask for a couple of fresh chillies to be added to my dish which pepped it up nicely I was shocked when everyone elected to go home after the curry (back in my day etc etc) but a big thanks to the 2 newbies (which they hate being called) for the lift home - looks like I made it indooors JUST before the heavens opened
  17. I saw that in a mag last week - I still love that album... But I don't think Mac has got IT anymore, having seen him live a few times of late
  18. MW74 - a good curry tonight will sort that out - jooooin usssssss In a strange echo of PeckhamGateCrasher's comment on the Gordon Brown thread, the title of this thread has me singing Prince songs...
  19. Keef/Piers Stop it - or I'll end up with a wii. Brendan - exactly! And in other news. This makes me VERY happy indeed REZ. In HD!!!! just weeks away
  20. nice one Mark - been ages Kel - oh go on - join us. After the last one we all ended up on a cocktail tip but as everyone appears to be detoxing that may not happen. I however am officially drinking tonight
  21. It's certainly the best restaurant the Village has to offer - shamefully Pizza Express can really hit a spot an one of the best evenings I had with Lady Mac was in this very one But whilst it may be sound advice to the child-averse to avoid weekend daytimes, take it from me, week days are no guarantee. The single most hellish experience ever was on a cold winter's day off with a mate - we went in and it was a scene worse than Mrs Doubtfire. It looked as if every au pair and yummy mummy was in the place with minimum 3 kids each... That was 5 years ago and I still haven't recovered
  22. helpful yes - practical no (in my case anyway) 3 of my nights this week have been altered at short notice so if I had food bought and prepped it would be wasted But I'm with LibraCarr on the proper food thing (no surprises there. But tonight is curry club night so... Thursday is looking like jerk pork chez moi - if I can convince Nisha at Val's that more that 8 scotch bonnets won't kill me
  23. ever since they did that song with Timmmaayyyyyy on South Park..... possibly Jan 07 - was this really my first post? "Interesting idea.. plenty of different opinions on here to make it lively. Technically we should go the the Best Bar and then on for some food at the Best Indian Restaurant - but I suspect we would never agree For what it's worth my vote for a meeting place would be Liqourish" No wonder Keef never spoke to me - then again Liqourish was about to hit a steep decline (although another visit last weekend suggests recent improvements are still in place)
  24. True dat, Brendan Amen - much as I dislike so much about this last 10 years, that would be worse. Even if I was a Tory I would hate Labour AND be upset at the alternative offered currently by "my side". And yes CWALD - I'm aware of the alternatives but even if I agreed with them 100% I know I'd be wasting my vote in the current system. And anyway - what Brendan said PGC - that is exactly what I thought when I saw the title as well
  25. "I prefer you when you sit on the fence Sean." Now, we both know that's not true, Alan
