  1. Haven't seen History Boys but I enjoyed LMS - Hot Fuzz I watched a couple of days ago and really enjoyed - it's had a bad rap post-Shaun but I thought it were very good Yarp
  2. first time poster who says "that NEW shop ED on North Cross Rd"?? How old are you!!!
  3. despite all the hoo ha about foreigners, it's the "pragmatic" British managers who are as culpable as anyone else re: rather-stay-up-than-progress-in-the-cup business And the first half of the Villa - Man U game is as bad as anything I have ever seen. And that includes the time I went to see Exeter play L orient....
  4. I've seen Oldboy about 8 times now - and I love it every time. I'm not really a repeat viewer of films but I show this one to so many people.... Lady Vengeance is more of a slow burn however... Not seen Sympathy for Mr Vengeance yet My Sassy Girl is a) another great Korean film - albeit much much lighter. It's also being remade by H@@@W**d.... groan
  5. blinder - I have listened to the acoustic versions. Don't get me wrong I LOVE them and I love the album and acoustic tracks (slight exception is Faron Young.. the acoustic version doesn't quite work for me.... probably an heretical statement but there y'go) I've even been to see Paddy in his "Peter Gabriel has nothing on me in the weight and facial hair department" phase a couple of years back.. But compared to the Mansions.... and I realise it's pretty much me and Mueller on this point... woodie - glad you liked Holly - I saw here at the 100 club in Oxford St last year - she doesn't "do" UK much but I'll let you know if she does..
  6. blinder999 You are a splendid fellow for even knowing about the Prefab Sprout re-release. A high-point from a great great band - I believe Appetite has even been Music Roomed a few times... "if you take, then put back in - if you steal, be Robin Hood..." but a more different band from the Kitchenware label-mates you couldn't wish to find - apart from both having very literate songwriters.. and you can beg to differ as much as you like - until you have lived with both albums for approx 20 years each you don't get to choose ;-)
  7. hibbs - you won't be the only first timer.. looking forward to meeting ye
  8. even if I did buy their first two albums (ahem) Then again I lived in Swindon at the time - musical taste was the least of my problems Aanyway - these days I love this woman very much
  9. Keef has submitted 3 things and all of them are top of my list I would agree with LizzyGotDIzzy re: bus queues also except for the fact that in London most bus stops serve multiple routes - so there is never a single queue - just a bunch of people hoping theirs comes first. I used to try and queue but realised most of the people in front of me just back onto my toe when they realised it wasn't their bus It's bad enough by Plough DiY but to b waiting at the southbound bus stop near the House of Fraser at Monument is MADNESS - and it's no fault of manners - just bad planning
  10. I'm considering taking my week-day detox offline* for this as well - at the moment it's a Tuesday only available for me * a contribution from me to the annoying-phrases thread ;-)
  11. your example made me chuckle Annaj another one which hacks me off is how "in terms of" has LITERALLY entered common parlance for no good reason "What is Franklins like in terms of pubs in East Dulwich?" This thread is bad for my blood pressure - some unfortunate is going to say something at work tomorrow and I'll.... do something
  12. y'all can't use any old flour.. has to be something like Italian type 0 or summat - have some somewhere in the house will look it up and post
  13. yep, they have now opened a second branch in Clapham - which has a substantially different feel btw - but the LL one was on it's own for a good while. I believe they have/had plans for 6 or so... but that it is a long way from being a chain. Well it is a chain but the difference being I can always get hold of the owners and make my feelings known - not some franchise manager Where a "chain" becomes a "chain" is an old debate - if the "concept" of G&B appealed to some investors, who bought the brand and rolled out the joints a la Gourmet Burger - THAT is an example of something losing it's original point. GBK now is but a shadow of the original - even when it had a few branches open originally it was basically sound
  14. Tuesday evenings only UltraConsultancy Rest of the time there is a markup on the shop prices which can vary from do-able to ouch Did you know you can bring your own food and pay ?3 chippage as well?
  15. I know Keef, nothing wrong with a wee wind-up bomb usually... ;-) I guess I'm over-sensitive re: this particular case
  16. Here Come Cowboys - Psychedelic Furs
  17. I REALLY don't want this to turn into another chain-good-or-bad thing but surely you can see the difference and the reason that would be Keef? G&B - started and owned by individuals who have invested everything into providing the area with something different - not just different along LL but different and unique in London (and yes, hopefully make money at the same time) Nero - decision taken hundreds of miles away to open outlet in yet another area, providing same product which can already be be bought One = special (but not perfect) , the other = the opposite of special (ditto) Why would anyone sympathise with anything so omni-present and bland? (if it was in trouble. Which it isn't. Nor do I wish any)
  18. PGC !! Let's hope DulwichMum doesn't stumble across this inference Then again I know she is familiar with Father Ted - The Greeks Invented Gayness so she probably is already up to speed
  19. The book has "them" as reasonably intelligent zombies. This current version has some god-awful CGI zombie/orc things Totally with you on the roll call of films/books tho mockers. Vampire mythology received a big boost with Brian Lumley's Necroscope books in the 80s/90s but he milked the whole thing dry. I must revisit the first one again now you (well I) mention it.... in the meantime I shall remind myself by visiting here ooh those names still give me a chill
  20. I spent yesterday evening in Peckham at the cimena watching I Am Legend 3rd attempt to film that book and the 3rd failure (kudos to Smith however for holding the screen on his own for 60% of the time)
  21. Never mind Atila, looks like he will now be busy elsewhere Now let's go pick on some West Ham fans before tomorrow's game... actually, that might not be such a good idea after what they did to Man U - plus, we don't have a great record against them of late
  22. And I thought you two had made up? Come on Atila, you know the score ... if Jah is resprting to personal insults can you honestly say you haven't made yourself a target? Jah will calm down as soon as he gets out of work but the tone of your posts will probably remain the same
  23. and as an Arsenal fan (who thinks Atila posts some good stuff on other threads) I say hear hear Jah I do sort of get where Atila is going sometimes - it's a certain kind football banter thing (as defined by some football fans) - which is quite common in many places - this just isn't the place for it IMO
