  1. one of the first things I did when I moved here sean#2! It's as delightfully strange as one would imagine - Graham Linehan couldn't make it up The sort of music that my Mum played on a Sunday morning, Odlums flour, Galtee bacon, sausage and black pudding, papers from around Ireland (The Leitrim Learner, The Galway GollyGoshYouDon'tSay!, etc etc)
  2. redjam It was discussed for a while here back in the day - not sure it was 100% explained but... Nouv Hair-Let name?
  3. SMBS = opposite of anonymous for me. Agree about the queues though. And whilst I don't mind queuing (see threads passim on William Rose) the size of the shop in SMBS means it can get uncomfortable. Great place though, and best selection of fresh herbs I've found in the area The Kodak/Photo shop opposite Liqourice is pretty anonymous - I've been there a few times but it hardly registers
  4. shame Annaj - and most likely not only are you working but VERY busy tonight as well?
  5. course you are! I just wanted to check.. always good to have more forumites come along I think I might be relatively sober (to begin with anyway) - everyone else appears to be at an afternoon works do in one place or another... so come 8pm they will be LARGE umm off topic now - well done again Amanda - I shall buy you a drink for sure (and see you later as well Lizzy)
  6. I'll come clean now and say my plans to "impress" have not actually happened so I shall be limited to my normal wardrobe - I'll have to use some imagination
  7. Oops - my post rendered pointless by Cassius getting ther before me!
  8. that one... you know the one... thingummy jig... next to whatsits. Sells.... umm...
  9. you coming as well Lizzy? The Christmas Party at the Plough?
  10. Ah - so I did read it wrong. Hearty apologies. Oh no... here comes the guilt kicking in! Hug?
  11. Stipe for Mark Which I think is a good call actually - but yeah Malkovich is better And yes CWALD of course you look better that Kathy. It was my suggestion btw. But I would say she can look really well when she's not playing some of her characters. Of course don't know if she can also [sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip - Taste Ed]
  12. You can tell SOMEONE is all chilled out and relaxed on holiday can't you..... ;-)
  13. Silly me, I took CWALD first sentence at face-value initially :-$ You sound in good spirits anyway tho, and well done x
  14. * saunters over to the large mantlepiece, overhanging a roaring log fire * * puffs a cigar and swigs some more brandy * "Young Ms Trotter, I myself find that people use the word 'tad' before condescending are, by the same token, condescending. Mwah hahhahahahahhaah" sorry, where was I. Oh yes... All I'm doing is, as people rage about "them" stopping "us" having nativity plays, with "fear" stalking the land, checking the momentum with some facts. If that is acting in a superior fashion than colour me guilty. Granted this forum is a treasure trove for all of us and our pet-peeves, but before we have a wail about something, let's make it real. Your point about wanting a nativity was both fair AND a little sweet (wanting a little "weep") - and the church/school hasn't put one on and you're disappointed. I get all that What I don't get is where people come barging in with all sorts of alarmist "Fire! Fire!" nonsense - blaming it on muslims, saying they would chop your head off and then Atila saying Christians have to "defend" themselves (against who exactly?) and they are afraid of upsetting others... . Phrases like "what has society come to?" - it hasn't come to anything. Instead of religions wandering around Europe and the Middle East butchering other, they now live side by side in the same countries... marvellous I say. The only point you made Tillie which I disagree with , is where you suggest (and I could be reading it wrong) that mainstream opinion is that Christians in this country feel under siege from others and that people are upset about it and have genuine concerns BUT the media would have us believe differently and aren't portraying this view? If that is the point then I've been living in a different country because I can't pick up a newspaper or listen to a radio station without hearing much the same "we this and they that it's not right we are being forced down this road". And to me that's the road to a mob-mentality I'm not saying a lot of people don't think that way - what I'm saying is if people are going to get upset let it be about something that's actually happening. Show me the schools and churches which are having something instead of nativity plays because they had threats from any group. Otherwise what is peoples real issue? If enough peolpe want nativity plays tell the people who organise them - they'll be back. Now, you still buying me a large drink?? ;-) * Fishes out Gallon-Glass from cupboard*
  15. We shall toast you all Huguenot (with all of the people at office parties before they show up tonight I am worried SLIGHTLY about the decorum later, must remember to bring a camera)
  16. This is entirely my point - to state THAT as the reason for this is to make an assumption. I don't believe ANYONE is afraid or scared. It;s just an excuse to lazily dredge up "political correcteness gone made" cliche But then I made that point in my last post and it was ignored If it IS schoolds making this decision based on "fear" then it's nowt to do with PC, christians, muslims or anything APART from a lame, weak, school-head. No-one is imposing anything on any schools. Not me, not Ken, not Labour, not anything... But if a school chooses to look at the wider world reflected in it's pupil-base and chooses to do something other than the white-Christiann tradiition, and not because of "fear" then that's a perfectly valid choice
  17. it's not really a question of fair play or unfair play tho is it Tillie? No-one is stopping any schools having nativity plays. It sounds like many parents want them. I'm not aware of any real coalition of non-Christian groups demanding they be stopped Is it just school governers being overly-sensitive? Or are they trying a few different thing? By that I don't think there is any element of "politically correct" imposition here. It's entirely down to the school in question and what they want to do Judging by the comments on here people who want a nativity play will complain to their schools and everyone else will go about their merry way...
  18. you have me down as an old moaner Kel?? I must have been crotchety lately - I shall remedy tout suite
  19. LOL Excellent Jamie - nice to see a GSOH in operation If Alan does take you up on the offer, I'm buyin the first round of drinks And I hereby promise to try and get in before Christmas
  20. just try not to get TOO excited, yeah?? ;-)
  21. lol Keef True tho - it does seem like a very long time ago. And also like yesterday. I see nobody put "Foxtons" on their wish list;-) sorry - sorry - I shouldn't even have mentioned them!
  22. I saw the windows were clean and the lights were on this morning so someone has made a start on it.. whoever and whatever still tbc
  23. On the other hand - some people don't like ANYTHING Christmasy at all (I'm not one of them, I'm a sucker for much of it. Not the religious bits obviously) I think Mark said everything best at the beginning - nothing wrong with it as such and if people want to do it and if people want to watch it then by all means. As long as it's not presented as fact. I'm still bitter about my indoctrination when I was young, not to mention 5 years as an Altar Boy. As you can tell I had more written about religion but I've deleted it because the thread is about Nativity Plays.... As Ultraconsultancy said, as long as the kids are involved and doing something together then thats A Good Thing. Even if it's rapping
  24. Ouch Keef, that's got to smart a bit! Birmingham 2 - 1 Reading Derby 1 - 2 Middlesbrough Man. City 2 - 0 Bolton Portsmouth 2 - 1 Tottenham Sunderland 0 - 0 Aston Villa West Ham 2 - 2 Everton (revenge match from last night - but they played first teams so tired legs) Wigan 1 - 3 Blackburn Fulham 1 - 2 Newcastle Liverpool 1 - 1 Man.United Arsenal 1 - 1 Chelsea
  25. Haven't noticed it yet but will keep an eye out A hardware store is, by it's nature, always going to look a little rough and ready compared to glossy clothes shops (I haven't actually tried to make fold-up ladders and mops look cool/tidy/modern on a pavement but I imagine it's tricky) but what I would say is if they can make an effort then so can, ooooh, let's say a bookshop ;-) Good luck to Dulwich DIY - they've been discussed on here a few times and, with one or two exceptions, have had plenty of support from forumites. They have always gone out of their way to help me (they once unloaded a whole car, incl speakers, to fit in some wood to take back to my place - and I hadn't even asked them to!)
