No doubt all reading their Telegraph/Times/Guardian as they do so I'm sure the Sun is just a bit of fun and in no way is it's depiction of women informing it's readers opinions (and you would be a fool and a communist for saying so).. ahem For the record I love pictures of the laydeeeez as much as the next man. But not in a newspaper. And if I like reading trashy gossip (not as much as I used to) then at least I balance it with other stuff. As for the workers in question.. in the past some women have told me they quite like it when they get attention from workers. Many more say they hate it... My feeling is if you find someone attractive there are better ways of making it known...

lol!! well, I didn't want to say..... and it was advice given with the very best intentions

is the sort of phrase which is really hacking me off lately.... it's both lazy AND misses the point in question

me being me I would add the tiniest flecks of fresh chili to the ground beef ;-) Spot on tip about using proper bread as the bun. "burger buns" are rank and the sourdough or ciabatta variations in pubs just don't work

by the way, when I say "agree totally with the sending off" what I mean is, I agree with people on here. Not with teh sending off itself Just thought I'd clear that up
-
all I can say is that the money was just RESTING in my account...

agree totally with the sending off, but one thing that really concerns me, and I've not seen it mentioned in any of the post-match reviews or in the papers The ref bottled the decision and consulted 4th official. Bad Enough. 4th Official was Uriah Rennie. Even Worse But as the players trudged off there was a close of up Rennie laughing his head off as if he hadn't a car in the world... It reminded me of that advert for a betting company where a last minute corner is converted and the ref starts celebrating as if he scored I found it all a bit suspicious is all...

Marmora Man I have had many a good evening in Joe Allen's - haven't been for a while and I recall someone on here saying they had a dodgy meal (with consequences!) a while back but I've never had any complaints

It did strike me as slightly odd - but it could just be real Is this you Kyle? Mr Monroe

There was much talk of The Aliens post Beta-Band and they were jolly good at Glastonbury this year too...

I happened to be in Dr Boo's on Saturday and as I walked in I clocked the owner (you know, the actress who has been in Brookie, The Bill, Holby etc) but she looked at me as if she knew me. I assumed it was an accident so I continued to chat with the ladies I was with, only to have her come over and say hello and THEN she realised she didn't know me (she thought I was some other actor apparently.. I ask you!) , so an embarrasing but very pleasant chat ensued But she is both famous and gorgeous in my book, so it all counts !

not to mention Steak Tartare being essentially raw minced beef

I rather like 'chains' coming to East Dulwich (Lounged)

snorky - I'm with you on most of the points on this thread but your last point suggests that you don't break ANY laws yourself - which might be true, but let's call that what it really is - an obvious, made-up fantasy ;-) On another point James said: I think this more than anything shows the gap between perception and reality. A lot of he independents are struggling. And if they are one of the few who aren't struggling at the moment (William Rose? Deli? they probably will be come lease-renewal time. Landlord will deliberately ask for unaffordable rents knowing that only a large group ( a BRAND!)can afford them. Indie closes down, new chain moves in and another brick in the wall. Actually, you know what - I don't care that much about indie v multi-chains in theory. It's the uniformity of the brands I can't stand - and it's brands that chains live by Everyone who thinks you can have a good mix of indies and chains ignores the fact that that can only be true for a short window of time. The momentum is against the indies - end of.. People want them. I don't know why. Is Waterstones a better bookshop than Cheners? on the immediate surface level, yes it is. But there is a bigger picture - one which, no matter how carefully explained/argued people don't give a shite about I don't lament the era of closed down shops, endless chicken outlets and pound stores in ANY neigbourhood - but in this neigbourhood the regeneration was started not by the existing chains but by several indies who thought they could make a go of something and did. Because they could afford to. But if they are all to be replaced (and for what? bad service? people on here have complained about Q'ing outside William Rose for cryin out loud - have we become SO pampered we can't do anything??) what is the point of anyone having a go at anything? Let's all have a re-union in 10 years time, look around at Upper Street part IX and lament the passing of the "good old days" - even though we are responsible for their passing.

SeanMacGabhann replied to Annasfield's topic in The Lounge
Annasfield - you read my mind. I meant to start a very similar thread myself. Nice one - and yep that chili sure hits the spot (although today I went for the bowl of chili in Mon Petit Chou - well lush it was too) The forum does influence my decisions but not always in the obvious way. If several people come on and slag off somewhere I have never been then it brings that place to my attention and I will give it a go There isn't anywhere I would avoid because of what has been said on here - I don't think anywhere has had a unanimously positive/negative feedback -
Who in ED is happy to spend ?4.50 on a loaf of bread?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Curmudgeon's topic in The Lounge
I've never even come close to paying that then again, we live in a world where people pay ?3 for a ring-bleedin-tone, so what do I know. -

PGC!! I'm shocked at you - bernaise sauce is indeed a classic sauce to accompany a steak and takes bugger all effort to make a superior sauce to anything you can buy.... next time you plan on having some let us know and I'll make some *shakes head* *re reads post as he likes PGC and hopes he wasn't too harsh * * but really * ;-) -
Did Foxtons choose a bad time to open? House prices (Lounged)
SeanMacGabhann replied to Domitianus's topic in The Lounge
Nicely responded Jeremy (tu) Obviously there is a cold truth to your original statements but you have contextualised them much better this time -
sheesh Cwald - after what you have ACTUALLY been through, you feel queasy about this???

let's not get carried away HeidiHi - it's the South London Press we are talking about here. Calling it a newspaper is stretching things a bit On the media thing in general, scepticism is wise but self-defeating if taken too far. Every version of any event we hear about, from any source be it paper, telly or friend is one person's version of events. So long as you treat a newspaper as a.n. other source it all helps to get a bigger picture I trust newspapers (well - some of the grown-up ones anyway) far more than I trust ANY TV news - it frightens me to think the TV is where most people get their news from

page 2 public house (nunhead lane)
SeanMacGabhann replied to trytapas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would have thought the new owner, trytapas, would be on here to give it a plug if it was re-opened so I don't think it's there yet. I could be wrong however.. Still, if you make it as far as there and find it closed I recommend a few more yards to the green and the Nun's Head pub - establishing itself as a real favourite of mine. Sister operation to the Gowlett but a completely different look, feel and menu
