I see much finger-pointing from Osborne and Cameron re: Northern Rock but I don't hear them set out what they would do... barry: you are correct about this govt's fetish with economics (and they are far worse than I ever thought they would be) but who do we vote for (realistically) to change that?

I said "if" not "when" ;-) And absolutely, most people carrying the flags will be fine and dandy and go home without any bother. But then again many people attending will enjoy the game without flags too... Edit: Ahhh how nice Jah - cheers.

NIce one - well done to you both !

I avoid flags myself - and mine isn't as associated with "overly patriotic, jingoistic, right wing bigot"s as some others (rightly or wrongly) I'll support my country's team when it's playing (not a problem next year now - tch) as I like football and it's tribal - but flags (of any country) are appropriated by all sorts of people I'm not happy with. Where my parents lived when I was born has nothing to do with me - the world is (thankfully) a far bigger, better and more interesting place than that place so associating myself with a flag doesn't appeal And IF England don't qualify tonight then you can bet that the people who get very aggressive to foreigners in the West End or wherever WILL be decked out in their flag.

I'm a Celebrity...............................
SeanMacGabhann replied to Ladygooner's topic in The Lounge
I know around the time of the Catatonia split she was in a VERY bad way but I thought things had improved a lot since then It could be argued that going on a show like this just after a split is the worst time to do so - As for your last point, absolutely -
Also agree on this one - having pictures is bad enough I guess - but every time someone on Facebook sends me an invitation to compare this/hug that/listen to something else, I have yet another application/developer/fraudster? asking for permission for access to my profile details (note: not just my profile.. it may be having a look at things marked private such as passwords as well) so I always say no.

Hardly foolproof is it AntDec creature? But then that's the point I guess - "we know we have been introuble, but we also know some of you are stupid enough to chuck money away anyway so here's our get out clause - ker-CHING!" What's wrong with a good old-fashioned "engaged" tone... it was free and you know you haven't got through... -
I've already said I don't think Darling should resign for this alone, but I have sympathy for both Mockney and cdonlin's points The media is hyping up the worst-case-scenario about the potential fall-out, but for once I don't think that's out of order. What will influence my opinion of Darling (sooo Blackadder every single time!) is how the lessons learnt will influence Government policy 6 months into the job he is not going to be 100% aware of every procedure in the department - I don't think any human being could be. But there it is.. these disks were (are?) flying around the place everywhere and no-one involved thought to put their hands up and say "is this the BEST way of protecting sensitive information?" I am against ID cards anyway, even with the best security systems in the world, but to allow so much extra data to be under the custodianship (word?) of a group as un-savvy as this, and pay for the honour? I don't think so... So some good may come out of this yet...

I haven't watched any of this series so can't comment I won't join others and dismiss this and other shows as complete bobbins but I am partly upset that Cerys is taking part as I still consider her a "going concern" in the music business and shouldn't need the publicity The other reason I'm less interested these days is the sense that, rather than the drama unfolding and being edited to suit (bad enough) the whiff of scripting before things happen bothers me too. Oh and then there are the ads. And the bleedin phone lines (those are still happening are they?) -
Which is why, out of all of the charities/causes, AIDS day is the only one I pro-actively wear. No-one (quite rightly) judges someone with breast-cancer (just as an example) so it's a self-evident good cause with plenty of support already Whereas homophobia is so ingrained in society it needs shouting down....

It has to be really doesn't it? Ok I'm in... can we get a 4th (sounds like we'll need 'em)

Funny as F... Or so I believe LadyG -
I keep forgetting you can do 4 player co-op... another feather in it's cap Definitely up for that but will need to book the time... I will try on Legendary as well but I'm not sure I have the patience to deal with that many snipers - will be good to play against the covenant again after so much of The Flood

found this on the THIRD page - shocking... Anyway, SMG seems to be getting the love that was anticipated - however without a Wii (and unlikely to get one this year) I'll not get the chance to play it - anyone else had a go yet? I've reached the final level on Halo3 (on Heroic) and am waiting for the right moment to finish the whole thing - I'm firmly in the Halo 1 was fantastic, Halo 2 was bobbins camp and was expecting only marginal improvements in Halo 3 but if anything it has surpassed 1 for me....

Haven't seen any ribbons as yet - but the red ribbon cufflinks I bought on NorthCross Rd last year do the trick just fine

Light pollution in East Dulwich
SeanMacGabhann replied to Amelie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would normally poo-poo suggestions of light-pollution (which is what I suspect you are doing macroban?) We live in an urban environment but there is a tipping point surely? The Halogen lights Asset describes are a good example of that. I'm sure the argument will be the light provides a safer environment for citizens etc etc but really?? I don't think muggers give it that much thought to be honest As for urban lighting generally I don't mind street lights, or even shop/restaurant windows. But again... you can go too far - If I lived in a flat on Times Square NY, or Picadilly Circus, I would be so chuffed about "the vibe" I wouldn't care. But if I'm sharing a room with 2 other people in a bedsit above a shop in LL, need to be up at 5am for work and have that much neon from Foxton's (let's not be coy here) through my window I would be a tad pee'd off -
Oh I believe you Mark - and Saturday sounds good but this particular Saturday am committed - but will absolutely try and get over there soon (might be an early-in-the-week post-work drink - who knows, maybe even Alan Dale will join us ;-) ) BTW - Very droll scor46, like it
-
methinks Piers was being slightly sarcy Mark (about the setup - not about you) - you probably won't find better supporters of pubs than MP or myself - just a shame the situation is what it is... But really appreciate the info and will have to make the journey from Plough-land over to Camberwell more often

And this, dear reader, is why I bang on about chains/big companies (beyond a certain point) being a bad thing The possible-shiteness of small operators should not be a barrier to any one of us doing better - but we now have 2 local landlords who obviously WANT to run a good business AND give us better prices prevented from doing so - bot in their current positions and potential alternatives. And none of the rest of us could afford to do any better Sigh.........
