Mockney You may have missed this from this mornings Guardian - but you should love it http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2007/nov/16/sciencenews.g2?gusrc=rss&feed=science

I saw Lush many a time.... happy days Anyone a Go-Betweens fan? Dusty In Here

I thought mockney s rant was spot on this morning. In my early post on this thread i had already gently pointed not how inappropriate the term was but people blundered on anyway. . So well done mp i understand where you are coming from paul but have to disagree that any mention is unfunny. Local python resident terry jones recalls not being let in to auswitch and saying "but you must let me in. . . Im jewish!!" and i find that funny excuse spelling. . Phone pad.

Good work on the org side mr b. See you there

By my reckoning I am one of approximately 15 people who own this record: Bubonique But she is VERY saucy

The greek thing is a joke (stolen from Pub Landlord) and Mockney of COURSE I would agree with your statement - I'm just countering the rather relentless "english players not getting a chance" mantra
-
no offence taken Keef - I totally understand such footballing emotions :)) and I'm not even trying to big up Arsenal - but Jose's comments just struck a nerve with me at the mo The whole foreign player thing does actually - it;s taken on a life of it's own - I just hard Steeeeeeve G being interviewed on the radio saying not enough English players are getting enough of a chance. I genuinely don't know what that means. I know the vocab, the syntax and the grammar but it doesn't compute into a real point. So I'll say it again: English players get just as much of a chance, if not more than foreign players. To say otherwise is fantasy. But they cost more, whinge more, are more likely to end up on t'internet with some mates and a young girl and are just. not. as. good. Foreign players and managers have raised the bar. So either train more or get with program guys. Justin Hoyte is another English player alleged to have not git enough time at Arsenal. But having watched him over recent seasons I can't agree - he is ok. That's all. But this emotion which the media has seized on in prep for Saturday's possible elimination is borderline xenophobia (great word shame it's greek ;-) ) That's a comment on press speculation by the way - not an accusation against anyone on here!

Depends what you mean by pleasant and efficient - that queue rattles down faster than ANY comparable queue for any other service - score efficient pleasant? I always have good banter and a laugh when I'm in there - save the odd time when someone who has heard about these things called "butchers" and starts poncing on about how exactly they want that 500g to be. It's the only shop I actively look forward to visiting - score pleasurable

Is it POSSIBLE to bleat about NOT minding something?? Simon is spot on - if they introduced anything other than cash it would take twice as long to get through everyone waiting. A lot of these people are regulars and seem to somehow manage with having enough cash so it can't be that bad a system Also for the amount of space they have they employ more people per sq foot than anywhere else I know - count how many people are working/serving in there the next saturday you pass - that's not showing much contempt for their customers I'd say
-
I can honestly say I've never bought into the I'm Arsenal so must hate Spurs thing - and I get so embarrassed by the anti-Spurs songs I hear at Arsenal games They wear white, used to be really exciting and provide a nice local challenge - what's not to like

Parking Problems when shopping on the Lane?

whatever else Mogs, from what I can tell, you are certainly the HAPPIEST driver I have ever encountered ;-) -
I was about to have a pop at your one-dimensionality Atila.. and then realised I couldn't think of any redeeming features at Chelsea either Then again we didn'thave many redeeming features back in George's day
-
His point tho Keef was that having English players helped the CLUB have a better relationship with the press. I suspect the man himself could field 11 martians and charm the press into thinking it was a good idea, but no way have Chelsea the club endeared themselved to the press

I should have know someone (ie MP) would be on the case. Good cross-thread referencing sir!

wasn't the new outdoors section of the Plough done sans planning permission. That must cause the local houses grief (lighting, music, people etc) but I've not heard much complaints about it As I say I do have some sympathy with the residents and applaud Keef for being fair-minded. But in this instance alone, judging by what we know (the location, the nature of the business, the entrances, the previous occupant of same site etc) it doesn't seem to be THAT much of a change

Residents Zenoria St I do understand some of your concerns but in answer to your question, I would say "it depends" on what the outlet was If I lived on the LL end part of Zenoria St I personally (and honestly) wouldn't object to this particular operation In fact if the book and cd stalls alone are half decent I might offer a house-swap (The back streets of the Upper Eastside is unlikely to suffer unplanned retail outlet openings any time soon) I didn't even mind the sound of the restaurant when it was going through planning But if it was something like Foxtons (with all of that bright light glaring 24/7) the I would be against it From Eddie's response yesterday it doesn't sound like he is riding rough-shod over any existing laws but has sought proper advice from the relevant authorities I think this is offering something different to the area

Stop playing with my dreams Mark Between where I work (variously Blackfriars, Lower Thames St and Tower Hill) and where I live there is no-where to buy cds/DVDs. There used to be an MVC on London Bridge but that's now a Pret. Speci--alist* CD shops exist in Peckham, Walworth Rd etc and "chart" music in Woolies etc but if I want to buy the new (say) Edwyn Collins album I'm stuffed... *That word again

Snorky! I started this thread to solicit people's reasons. If you start having a pop at those reasons then no-one will do it so please desist I'm begging you (you could always start and anti-car thread you know) -
Rolo Fair enough - new shops shouldn't be a reason to get everyone salivating and I mis-read your "not sharing your enthusiasm" bit as anti. My fault. Soz Apart from the cheese and the bookstore I'm not sure what else is in there but personally I'm looking forward to checking out the bookstore as an alternative to Chener

My season ticket is 3 rows behind yours TT More seriously I'm sure it came up in conversation at some point in the past Plus this posting suggested a loyalty to a team (you could have said Leeds but then they aren't local) Footie

I'm in the "pro" camp Apart from the residents of Zenoria Street, with whom I have some sympathy, and people who are apathetic about the arrival of new shops anyway , why would anyone be ACTIVELY against this place?
