  1. Louisa I don't think it's a personal attack to describe you as regularly not having anything nice to say - and I say that as someone who often defends you! - you even go on to admit as such (albeit in a sarcastic way) that you value being negative above more balanced criticism as you perceive that to be more "real" - so I'm not sure what anyone would be apologising to you for The White Stuff post that upset you so is a case of damned if they do and damned if they don't. By posting and engaging, WS are condemned as con-artists trying to hoodwink us. If they DIDN'T post then they would be a faceless chain ignoring the local community The merits of WS themselves have been discussed by most of us in the earlier thread so there is little NEED to actually get so upset all over again (IMO) And besides the sun is shining outside... ;-) Might still be on Friday if you come along to the drinks. Come on.. you know you want to..........
  2. Louisa. . . Im not joining up the dots on your last few posts. To my knowledge jah doesnt shy away from anything on here and is surely by now one of the forum treasures. whatever we may think of a business there is no need to get personal in public
  3. Honestly, if someone set out to parody the EDF they would hardly do a better job As far as I know White Stuff advertised locally for managers/supervisors so if the successful applicant is a local lass/lad then why not come on here and post. Exactly the same as Kate from G&B and good luck to both of em Yes White Stuff is now an international chain, but as we've discussed before abaout chainage generally they are hardly in the same league as the Walmarts of this world, for 57 main reasons, which I haven't got time to go into here. They may YET end up that way but some benefit of the doubt is in order - I'll be popping in there no dout and may even be friendly to the staff just to spite the doom-mongers So - White stuff for Septempber forum drink-up anyone? ;-)
  4. Oy vey. How awful for her. And she had to continue working straight afterwards. . ?
  5. shot down for that? Has this place become so hostile? I think a juice bar is a good idea in one of the tiny wee units currently closed down. A couple of places do fresh OJ already but it ain't the same as a full range * looks up the annual rent on those units... hmmmm *
  6. I do hope you meant Mr Connery Keef
  7. half-wanted to but the combination of lunchtime beer sin Devon, long cross country journey, 12 bus chucking us off early, the heat, and our baggage conspired against us. It look well busy and happening tho
  8. Echo Keef's comments about still needing a late venue, but the old maxim still applies - NTV (Never The Vale) Of course we all know that pub nearest a railway station anywhere is guaranteed most of the time to be dodgy. Every 6 months or so I pop in if I know I won't have to stay there and just see if anything has changed - out of morbid curiousity you understand And as for what ex-staff say! Well that would be libellous. But if you had a look at the reviews on beerintheevening.com you might get a flavour
  9. boom boom scor46 Obviously this is about the incident rather than the video shop and I hope no-one got injured. But I think the concept oof such a store existing in 5 years time, regardless of what it is called, is very remote. Hard media (be it Ble Ray or HDDVD) will be dirt cheap to buy while casusal viewing will be streamed. Rents will make shops like this redundant I believe
  10. as an ex-lurker myself, before attending my first drinks I can only point you to my stats and say "be warned" ;-)
  11. Since I've been in ED that station has fallen under different companies - all of whom probably promised wonderful improvements in the tendering process I'm sure. One of the reason I gave up on the train, invested in ear plugs and some books and took to the buses I hope Nero's contacts help willma but it occured to me that rather than tackling on an individual basis could we mobilise the forum as a whole to help improve local issues, such as this one. I think it has been mooted before and I'm not volunteering to lead anything but there are some intelligent people on here which could provide lateral thinking on how to beat a wall of silence Think of the pubicity for the forum if we succeeded
  12. So longs as you don't bring the holiday snaps you're more than welcome Jerri I'm looking forward to Friday - which means this week is going to draaaaaaaaag
  13. Its a subject thats been done but one we love anyway. . . to get a frame of reference however . . . Where outside of ed do you consider to be a genuinely good pub. I almost kind of sorta know what you mean but think you are being over harsh
  14. Im a fan of the green but if i am present when someone finishes the red i will pay for it. I dipped some naan into the sauce and got no further. Those who know me know i can handle dragons blood (the sauce sold by chili-Pete) but this was something else
  15. Have we exhausted Ed yet? I'm not against the idea of travelling further afield but just making sure we aren't overlooking Didn't someone mention the FHT as another possibility? The birthday drinks should be a "grander" occassion methinks Also - re: this coming Friday at the Plough. If the good weather persists will this be the first al fresco drinkup? Should keep smokers and sunbathers alike happy
  16. bite has definitely lost it's allure - apart from anything else I don't see many updates on there of late
  17. Tried the red handi about 6 years ago. My memory suggests it was hotter than dragons blood. Tried it again about 18 months ago and it seemed much more do able but even so i cant see any competition
  18. Not this year unfortunately. . But im dead jealous of anyone going
  19. Hi new summer. This one has been discussed already. With mixed opinions it has to be said. But if you pop to the lounge you will see a thread about arranging some gay evening drinks
  20. Its an irish ting
  21. Of all the weekends to be away. . . Its all kicking off today isnt it . . I dont know one bit of sun and everyone is on the lash
  22. Jah. . . For some reason that story really touched me. . Lets sing it when next we bump into each other
  23. Lol. . Same typo issues at work unfortunately.
  24. well there you go - I might have even seen you in ***'* back garden - see you again at the drinks
  25. * stumbles into room * * wipes vast beads of sweat from brow * "don't fell myself today "
