  1. I think "trendy" is pushing it but people who denigrate it are being a bit harsh. Yes it's possible to buy things in there that make you look embarrasing but it will be a shop that sells a range of jeans, shirts, t shirts, skirts and dresses at affordable prices (not wage-slavery primark prices - but affordable to many in ED) Which despite the efforts of ED the shop is something we don't have on LL so I'm ok with this one
  2. I thought the Littlejohn jibe was light-hearted (and obviously wrong) Calling someone Clarkson - that was more of a reaction I thought But I thought it was all banter and don't think either of you actually meant it in a derogatory way so come on, shake hands and let's be done with it Ghandi
  3. Sometimes I wonder if drivers think us public transport users get to use it for free. The cost of driving in real terms has decreased over the last couple of decades while the cost of public transport has increased by multiple hundred % (yes I should quote source but at work and can't find just now) It's not the needs of "us drivers" that is important alone - it's the need of all of us who need to move around
  4. I would imagine one of the main reasons is that it just isn't sustainable to allow every home-dweller access to full on parking facilities. Or at least if it is possible, then the road infrastructure to support the extra cars would need to be also built. Do we fancy a westway style flyover?
  5. True - lots of suggestions have been made for other businesses (But if we aren't brave/rich enough ourselves to risk it ourselves.....) I don't think its an agenda - these shops must make money (I have no idea how as I never see them busy with people handing over cash) - but they couldn't keep opening with rents as they are otherwise. And I'm not even against them - I have no use for them but they certainly look better than a fly-posted window. That said, the kitchen shop is full of stuff I WOULD love to buy - I just can't afford it Maybe in the future we will all talk of the gift-shop boom of the early 21st century before the crash
  6. 3 posts by the time I finished blathering - and all I did was agree with Keefs last sentence..
  7. I tend to agree with you on this one - but I am not fully-informed enough so am open to argument The marriage thing (or not) I'm not too bothered about - regardless of status, when 2 people have a relationship and it doesn't work out then it's hard enough anyway without legalese getting involved The big BUT you saw coming, is when kids are involved. Then it stops being 2 people sharing a period of time and becomes something where sarcrificed get made along the way (be it job, money, time) and when the break-up happens one of the 2 people can find themselved left stranded. Saying they entered freely into it isn't a big help because if everyone worried about the implications then no-one would bother. So at this point I think that, again regardless of marital status, some kind of deal needs to be reached
  8. Again probably true but it looks like the program is focusing on the impact on those ticketed and not the borough's overall wellbeing
  9. You right of course keef (oops, nodding dog!) - but it's not the opinions I mind (I actively seek out James & Louisa's opinions on here!) It's the repetition that got to me - but I'm over it now - sorry guys
  10. I suspect you are right Brendon about the stat quoted. This topic has been discussed at length on here before, TV Researcher - a couple of links: Parking Zone 1 Parking Zone 2 So you should get plenty of material for the program As I've said I think unfair ticketing is prevelant but it's one side of a 2 sided coin - unfair and dodgy parking/driving being the other (coupled with sheer volume of cars)
  11. Was just gently teasing you Elfy - I always thought that REM ruined The Lion Sleeps Tonight with it "inspiring" The Sidewinder Sleeps... on Automatic For The People
  12. you may, you should, and you are correct Mr Carnell
  13. By now on this forum (and I'm looking at you regulars James & Louisa! ;-) ) we know which shops will bother us - do we need to repeat it every time? Let's start a thread investors/business people can read which shows what we do want and how many of us would frequent the place should it open Sorry - it's just as soon as the word gift shop or yummy mummy is mentioned the next 2 pages can be ignored as it will be all of us going "not ANOTHER ....."
  14. Do those of us who share the streets with the cars get a look in on this doco or is just people who don't understand the laws of physics? (I am being facetious but only slightly - unfair ticketing does go on and deserves airtime. But what will happen is that everyone with a "I have a right to drive and park where I please" axe to grind will show up)
  15. I'd like to think that teh obscure choices can happen here beacause come the real event we will all "compromise" Except me - it's WITW all the way
  16. linking 2 threads at once - like it can't remember if this has been posted before but... happy clappy
  17. I'm liking the "I see a darkness" call - I think I prefer Oldhams backing vocal on the Cash cover Did I read somewheer that "don't Stop Me Now" is actually quite a popular choice at funerals? - Come on Tillie, more originality I've just thought "Do You Realize?" by the Lips might be a good choice too
  18. The child in me says "Killing In The Name Of" - Rage Against The Machine but it would probably me something more sedate - I can never choose just one but at the moment I have Johnny Cash "When The Man Comes Around"
  19. Haven't read the others LadyG but loved the Homes book
  20. Elfy! Wait for the thread to start ;-) This one is for Happy Thoughts
  21. It's always a destination venue for me, Bellenden Road, as I'm in the Upper East Side, but I always have a good time when I'm there - be it at Ganapati, or the Sicilian near the Lane. Bar Story is another favourite of course and I've had some good old-skool fun in The Wishing Well I've never had a totally satisfactory meal at the Peckham Exp in any of it's incarnations however...
  22. Cheers Tillie - of course it's all hypothetical anyway ;-) Very sweet choices you guys made too.. we're all getting very mushy here aren't we? I must start a "what song do you want played at your funeral thread"
  23. We appear to be bypassing Clapham and becoming the new Chelsea Blue Velvet Shoes - Kings Rd
  24. It's on the Lordship Lane end of Pellat Rd - Small frontage but I love the place Has been featuring in Time Out's pick of the South London bars/cafes for last few weeks too It's not a fryup greasy spoon type caff tho..
  25. good spot Asset - Nina would be a little too downbeat, Mathis too laid back, and Bowies studio version a little too clinical - so: Wild is The Wind
