  1. splendid post LuvPeckham - thanks for the updates and hopefully we'll hear more from you soon 12th of August is, as you KNOW ;-) the Jerk Chicken Cook Off in Horniman Gardens in the afternoon but I'll be wafting around Peckham for much of the rest of the weekend
  2. I've grown to like the 0208.... and I've just realised it. Never liked the 081 business..
  3. hey lover of forest hill road - you made it to this thread too. I still agree with you ;-)
  4. Fair point back at you loz - wasn't even trying to defend that aspect of things! And I like your point about appreciating our system despite it's flaws. I have seen some shocking incidents over the years but by and large I wouldn't swap it for anything. I gave up on suburban trains long ago, and now get off the bus at E&C before traffic gets too thick in town and walk the rest of the way - I've been using the ED buses for 6 years now and wouldn't say they have deteriorated in that time - if anything they have got better
  5. Man - I hate the 12 but THAT sounds even more stressful - I will do anything to avoid a change of bus/tube/train
  6. To be fair on this point, it's not hard to go to another country, even a busy metropolis with full buses, and encounter a more chilled bus-driving culture - which is what I believe James had in mind We all know how cheap clothes arrive on these shores but surely a point for another debate? (sorry loz, it's just these things do kick off!)
  7. And to think that this route used to go all the way to Notting Hill until just a couple of years ago But this thread does dovetail nicely with the #40 bus thread elsewhere on the forum so I would advise popping the message there (short answer from me - "yes"!)
  8. James - there is some truth in what you say. However (with my cheeky devil's advocate hat on!) you also say you "work in creative industries where we do exceptionally long hours for little pay. I have never smashed a window in a rage and I take pride in my job" Other friends in the same industry and the bars that cater to the industry don't always have the kindest things to say about the people there either - smashing windows may not happen but a lot of abuse does..
  9. Well the weatherman interviewed on BBC London this morning said that after today (hmmmm) the next 3 days would remain bright and sunny. As ever, conjecture wins over facts If it's wet on Sunday - well, one person's wet is another person's it'll-be-alright-in-15-mins. I say check this thread around nooninsh and we'll make a collective decision? If we do go to the park, it's called a picnic, what are we doing for food?
  10. She was the Polish nanny in Brookside inearly 90s hang on - here we go Anna from Brookside
  11. The 185 definitely always smells of sick - so much so that I'm convinced it's a build-issue with those bus-models. Some material is reacting badly to the engine heat. As for bus drivers - can we refer to *Bobs* cock theory on another thread? Some are some aren't The 40 came to a halt on Walworth Rd last week on the way in to work. One instinctively knows if it's engine failure or "trouble". this one was trouble. A guy gets on and barges upstairs without showing his pass and the driver took a stand - bus not moving until he pays. The guy who didn't pay kept shouting down "I don't care" until a combination of peer-pressure and the driver coming upstairs made him eventually give up and get off. Fair play to the driver but I bet lot's of people were hacked off at him for making them late
  12. And I consider the 40 one of the more pleasant buses to take as well... The quality of drivers does vary enormously - both in capability and personality. And I too have wondered how the some people cope with the stops-and-starts. Then again even the best drivers have to have an amount of aggressive attitude to keep the bus moving in London traffic It doesn't really matter how upset you get with a driver they can't really respon - and if someone is going to go as far as start smashing windows.. well, they have kind of lost the moral high ground no?
  13. gee georgia - I have just NO idea..... ;-)
  14. sorry to hear about the incident mazza but glad it worked out in the end
