  1. Karter had mentioned it a few times a couple of montsh back - somewhere on NorthCross Rd
  2. Was quite upset I missed "the Mouse" last month - maybe next time
  3. I think the extact date can be pinpointed to when CWALD didn't have ALD and decided to get one
  4. duuuuuuuude - I so should have said I meant a dive-bar in downtown US-ville - maybe like the one in that movie with Linda Fiorentino when she heads out to the sticks (besides, no pool table in CPT)
  5. I've gone from wanted a decent boozer on my doorstep to wishing it wasn't there (but in a good way) I was always able to get home from work, hop off at the library and walk the yards to home without ever even THINKING of stopping for one... whereas now I find it all too hard to not think "If I have just one, I'll be able to finish this chapter) It's not a perfect pub by any means but I do find myself in there more than I thought I would..
  6. Because today I feel like spending the afternoon in a dive-bar, playing pool and drinking beer
  7. says Keef while bearing in mind the comments about how smoker-friendly the outside of the Plough is ;-)
  8. and lamposts Are these for real? If you needed a washing machine fixed is that the number you would go for or would you use Thomsons? I've always suspected they are code for dodgy dealings - anyone able to shed any light on these?
  9. strewth ruth - I used to work around there. You could conceivably call some of the nearby streets villagey, but the roundabout??? Anyway, this should be of interest to those partaking in CWALD's sports-day thread Non Competetive Sports Days
  10. Clare - that almost sells the Uplands to me - good work
  11. Nero - they didn't just happen to damage a vehicle - Drivers used to tailgate the buses so tightly to try and get past the bollard it was inevitabe that a few would be pranged Call it initiative or stupidity (guess which my opinion is) but I don't think rising bollards can e be "improved" to prevent that kind of behaviour
  12. By better buses, I guess I am talking about ED to central London - but I've been here before and after Ken and there are definitely more of them, better bus lane enforcement and the C charge had an effect until drivers realised that ?8 a days wasn't that different to what tube commuters pay and drove in anyway... there are still lot;s of horrible routes though - especially any route that begins with a letter eg P13
  13. what time were you there Bren? I was there from 6:30 to near 10 (having a house meeting of all things)
  14. Well if turmeric alone does that much good... what about chilis
  15. Any context around this Irisminer - as in, how is it relevant to the reader. Do you have property there and are you worried? And are you interested to know if anyone is in the same boat as you?
  16. you're spot on Andrew - cheers
  17. To be fair, I haven't dug into the cuba trip too deeply - and it may well have been a "jolly". or it might have been a working holiday - either way I can't see it affecting London As for the problem with British politics.. my take is that it's the same problem as that with British sport, British food, British culture etc... which basically amounts to - "I'm not going to do it, but I reserver the right to complain at length about those that do, thus reinforcing a cycle of discouraging people who might want to" Seriously - he's no better than any of us so if we think we can do a better job then let's go do it. But the problem with British politics isn't "them", it's "us" - we moan and groan about anything without ever once respecting the person who has to do the job and marry up a disparate electorate
  18. Bellenden Belle - have I missed her involvement in this one ? She has been AWOL from these parts of late unless I'm blind... which is possible
  19. Citizen - now I have done my checking you are 100% correct - I apologise to you, your family, your family's associates, pets etc See you there
  20. Ken doesn't control the tube (much to his annoyance) - that was part of the big fight a few years back for which he took a lot of stick for trying to get control of yes the buses WERE that much worse a few years back. take my word for it. They are a long way from perfect now but if you combine a bit of walking with a flexible bus attitude you are the master of your own destiny - Quite honestly they are one of the reasons I wouldn't move back to North London - and I say that as a previous die-hard "tube-only" refusenik Ken swanning off to Cuba for a bit of a jolly? Even if that was 100% holiday, the problem is what exactly? You work more hours in a week that Ken? You never get a holiday? As I've said before - perfect he ain't. But it's too easy to have a pop without coming up with a genuine alternative.
  21. I've had a couple of these - as has Lady MacGabhann. No way would I give out any info to someone calling me. if I ring you then by all means security-clear me.. but you ringing me?? It usually isn't who they say they are so Pension Company X can't set an example if it;s someone else pretending to be them...I have their number already on statement so I offer to ring back that said, a while ago it genuinely was my bank so I spent ages on the phone to them going "why??????" -but that was about 2 years ago
  22. * appears the ranch is built on a mudslide * * seem to be heading towards Kingston *
  23. EDDW wrote: If you want to hear some really creative swearing ask a taxi driver on his / her opinin on Ken Livingstone's road transport plans. To be fair, would I expect any less of a taxi driver? Traffic has reduced, congestions hasn't (for other factors) but mostly it's because - you charge people ?8 to drive and they still do it. Congestion = too many people driving. IE - it's not Ken's fault. He is discouraging driving but still it happens..If congestion is a problem for you, and you drive in central London, are you: a) the problem b) part of the problem c) STILL thinking about the question?
  24. SummerLightning said: "SS Reels of Cotton all wrapped in RZM Label. All colours but not much black left. ?3.00" I almost spat my tea out... I genuinely love it when a first post makes me smile...
