  1. And be honest Siduhe... the upper east side where you have landed is much better - the library, the woods, the park... :)-D
  2. As a non-Londoner I am regulary surprised by how friendly people in London can be - certainly any equivalent sized city will have it's anonymous/cold side but generally I think it's not bad at all, considering I grew up in a place which I consider to be uner-friendly, and appears to be to this day. And yet when I take friends there many say they find it a little bit, if not unfriendly, then a little bit fake sometimes... so it goes to show how we percieve our home can be different to how others see it
  3. All very interesting - I quite often head into Peckham and have a big soft-spot for the place but that station and entrance really does need sorting. I like the idea of a square but I suspect the usual objections from existing tenants will be voiced (and can we REALLY do away with that "does anyone really go there" dentist just outside the entrance?)
  4. Rather than a straight list I've grouped mine into those I genuinely like and will happily visit regardless of occassion, those that are not so good but can be ok if circumstance, mood and timing come together, and those I would rather not go to if I can at all help it The groups themselves don't necessarily mean any kind of up/downmarket description, nor are they in strict order (although some from the top 2 groups do swap places sometimes) I'm not saying if you go to any of the ones in the top group YOU will definitely have a good time but they work as general rule of thumb from me The Good Guys Inside72 CPT EDT Bishop Plough Green & Blue Franklins Liqourish Depends - Can be great, but equally... Castle Drum Magdala Palmerston Clock House Hoopers FHT Herne Gowlett Not today, not tomorrow... NTV (aka The Vale) Uplands Honourable mentions just outside this catchment go to The Nuns Head, The Rye, Bar Story, The Hob in Forest Hill,
  5. ah now - I can manage a smile ;-) But that's about it. As for general bus-stop behaviour - you can kind of tell which people would be responsive and which wouldn't anyway. The regulars at my bus stop (opposite The Plough) are the usual mix but if I smiled at most of them they would freak out - but a few of us are friendly enough to do the morning exchange of nods and smiles... sweet really
  6. good post MM - for all that some of us complain about the things that irritate us, ED remains (in my opinion) one of the most diverse, balanced and interesting places to live in London which makes it one of the best in the SE of England
  7. Nice one Mark (and another hour at work lost.. tsk)
  8. I've looked up B****** several tines in that list and it's not there! Welcome to the forum anyway sir..
  9. Potential? The definitive word on potential surely is here: (46 seconds in) Potential
  10. Victoria = dressing as Queen Victoria? Sloane Square = dressing as a conventional sloane ranger? Leicester Square = a square piece of red cheese?
  11. just an FYI - IMHO & IMO isn't limited to this forum - it's pretty much standard on most internet forums (for good or bad) oh - FYI - For Your Information edited after looking up a full list of acronyms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imho#I
  12. I always want to like the place more - but....the jury appears to be in regardless of who you speak to
  13. It's definitely tricky - you have to hang on to the thought "you will look back on this time fondly" Whatever happens happens... establish what kind of relationship it's going to be early on and then.... play accordingly. Can't help anymore than that - sorry
  14. Hi dullwitch - not a parent myself but we did have a friends teenage son for 3 weeks last year. Teenagers being teenagers I have no hard and fast answers - they are all different and I would hesitate to suggest anything which will be appreciated. But in my experience, internet access, music and video games will be the weapon of choice. If they are social creatures they will probably have used msypace/bebo/facebook to meet local people their own age already maybe?
  15. If i was in east dulwich today i might even buy that man a pint. . . if he bought one back i might even lift the curse. you been quiet of late young bear
  16. Well if Cameron is for it I'll have to forego the pleasure CWALD But hey the next forum drinks'll be fun as for the anti-pc folks: do you really want to be one of these people? http://www.capc.co.uk/views_and_comments.htm Does ANYTHING in there stand up to any analysis whatsoever?? especially the christmas stuff - sheesh, how many times does this have to be disproved?
  17. CWALD - I certainly wasn't disagreeing with you - I had actually typed a lot more but removed it for .. umm.. editorial reasons I suspect if you and I sat down about what was right and wrong in this world we would score well in Mr & Mrs (is that still a game?)
  18. Oooh - but let's not blame it necessarily on PC gone mad... that's a catch-all excuse as far as I'm concerned these days - Asset you are BANG out of order!! Edited in response to Assets previous request ;-) PS This thread is a bit feisty innit - you can't type a response without 3 more being squeezed in before you!
  19. I for one am glad CWALD has re-found her feisty setting ;-) Isn't one of the arguments for non-competitive sports days (and I'm not saying I'm for them) that the reason people get so competitive and ruthless in the workplace is that they are (or were) encouraged to compete at an early age - so if we take that competitiveness out of them in school it will lead to a nicer world etc ?? Maybe that was just one of the arguments And if I was in CWALD's shoes this morning I would be fuming too - I would run 'em all into the ground ;-)
  20. There seems to be general consensus about how harsh/zealous/OTT the authorities are - but I am interested again in asking the question - what does the future hold for car drivers? And not in a "the authorities will just keep squeezing us" way - let's for the sake of argument say we have the most benevolent change of authority and allow generous and free parking facilities with no fines So: With all of the new cars coming onto the roads - where will we be in 10 years time?
  21. I saw them supporting the Lips as well - Bristol Academy being the first! Right - you want it cranked up? Blues For Ceausescu but maybe you want loud AND a bit more uplifting Secret Machines - Lightning Blue Eyes
  22. A fine way to put an end to this?
  23. Gillian Anderson? And you don't like Dr Cox's wife????? *shakes head *
  24. Some uplifting tunes for the weekend - splendid idea Wish I could actually LISTEN to these at work but still..
  25. * why thank you pardner * * good to see the sun do it's thang - makes the cold stuff taste all the better * * plus it makes the gals all "funny" *
