I agree about not wanting to see Le Moulin change. The way I describe it to people is I feel like I'm on holiday somewhere Bet they will be chuffed to hear about the Chardon mixup as well
-
Well - anyone can still drink there - they don't have to go anywhere else. I've yet to see the place absolutely full but I have eaten there - week and weekend (I know - dedication to a cause) The food during the week was pretty good. Not special but for the kind of managed pub it is it was quite nice. All the dishes are quite simple (lamb steak with couscous) so I doubt there is a masterchef in the kitchen The weekend menu eas cut down but included roasts. And apart from the spuds which had been incinerated(the next table was fine - I must have had a bad batch) it too was ok Damning with faint praise? Maybe but it's all earky days - I see the menu evolving over time. The should include a few sandwich option for daytime trade IMO EDITED: on behalf of the Potato Liberation Front

Louisa - we might disagree on this but a question anyway... Now that the Plough has changed do you think Le Moulin will see more customers as people can now have a drink in the pub before/after a meal - ie it has become an area where you don't have to travel to just for a meal? Just a thought. Same applies to Omrith and the FHT I guess

Ooh I wish I could access youtube to post a link - I'll try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGJQj6KnMzA That should be the video for this text: http://sennoma.net/main/edits/Hicks.html And I just know that you will see the funny side Huguenot (you've probably seen it a million times)
-
Ouch SusyP - this must hurt! To be honest I'm surprised one of us didn't pick up on that before - re-reading your description of what you thought was Moulin perfectly describes the experiences I have had in le Chardon at least 50% of the time I have been in there whereas I've never had a bad experience at Le Moulin So you are treating the forum to a slap up meal at Le Moulin then to make up for it?? ;-)
-
I'm quite enjoying this thread now... ... but none of this explains why you promised to come last Friday and then didn't, Louisa (and I know you didn't because I asked people at at least 4 different locations on Peckham High Street if they had seen you...)
-
It started with Keef agreeing with you Louisa and now you are pulling back from an argument AND cracking a joke. I'm getting very confused - made me laugh tho ;-) Back on topic: I can understand the original rationale behind disabled spaces but can see how things have moved on - however as long as the current system is in place it should be adhered to. But that doesn't mean the whole thing can't be reviewed and a more modern solution found (whatever form that might take)

oops - quality control from Mr McGabhann = very shoddy. I got as far as here: http://cathalcoughlan.com/music/grandnecro.html but yeah the MP3s themselves are no more... soz
-
you would have to say that was the clincher alright, pk I'm not sure what taxes has to do with supermarket parking either.
-
If you referencing the minotuar thing MP you might be right but it wasn't what I was thinking at the time - It goes further back to childhood and has lasted across various media right up to the present I even like these http://www.bowiewonderworld.com/images/dbart/crouch.gif As for that video, fear'n'boozin it reminds me of the Sprout singer Paddy McAloon recalling the filming. He said it was then he realised that his place in music was effectively pointless. To keep the dancers happy by the swimming pool in between takes he would play Beatle songs on the piano - and the dancers all asked who it was. When he told them they still didn't know who The Beatles were so he figured what hope did Prefab Sprout have Steve McQueen by the Sprout remains one of my favourite albums btw Umm.... no music link from me tho....oh no, wait. One of the few love songs in this man's canon http://cathalcoughlan.com/audio/mp3/grandnecropolitan_02.mp3

Or maybe it should be a bus/train company as most of us rely on them to get us in and out of work
-
I don't think the area is as homogenous as is sometimes made out - a lot of different types of people and lifestyle - and long may that continue But I suspect Peroni would would be in with a shout in my house
-
Keef - as ever you contextualise perfectly. Nice follow up post from Jamie as well. And now that I know which Jamie it is I assume the business referred to is the one you first spoke of on the forum a while back Jamie? Glad to see it's up and running But the thread did start off about taking the fine to court which is surely a massive waste of resource and at the time sounded like a plea for sympathy None of us are perfect Jamie and it sounds like you posted immediately after the event and have slept on it overnight. I think you might find that the experience will affect your behaviour should you find yourself in a similar situation. As I said when we first spoke some weeks back however, it's not easy starting a business and you are obviously working long days so good luck with that
-
That has actually got me pondering... any size company or is there a budget?
-
I'm sure we will all be decried as PC loons but what is the sympathy for? (Actually I have some sympathy him based on the amount of harsh - but fair - replies generated) I don't know Jamie at all so don't want to pick on him individually - there are many selfish drivers out there (who never have the time, despite being in a car, to do anything which inconveniences them one iota) but he has raised the issue so we are discussing it Once again - it wasn't a mistake. And he is advocating habitually parking in disabled bays (or at least doing away with them - why else call them "stupid"?) He hasn't paid a huge price at all - relative to say, the cost of a car. Or a monthly travel card come to think of it. But if he considers it a huge price then, well, we know the rules. Don't park there. No penalty fare. As evolved human beings do we have to weigh everything up against the chance of "being caught" or do we ever do anything because it's the right thing to do ?
-
" made a mistake about parking somewhere " But it wasn't a mistake was it - it was a deliberate decision by you thinking you would get away with it. And now you are complaining about it. And you're not helping your case by calling the disabled spot a "stupid place" Why exactly is it stupid? Is your life really that rammed to absolutely the max that you can't park a few minutes away and wander down to Somerfields?
-
It is also imperative that you never ever bother to actually MEET any of the people trying to express a point lest you actually end up having a good time, thus removing the outlet of venting at stangers on an anonymous forum
-
Well if that image doesn't deflect this thread then I don't know what will

EDF Drinks, Friday 10th August at The Plough
SeanMacGabhann replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
What about the suggestion of the week after - so the 10th? -
You're actually correct macroban, and had they not reverted to the Plough name I could even say "what's good for the Goose..." I was sidestepping the planning issues for the sake of welcoming a new person but the point does remain the same - companies (or individuals for that matter) should not be allowed to bulldoze through planning legislation
-
Goof question Nero but I'm not sure of an answer - I know Siuthwark council have just pushed a hefty booklet through our door for services offered - I'll have a browse of that
