  1. On the subject of "nights out in ED" bars - one of the other reasons I love this place is that the bars, by and large, avoid many of my bugbears - specifically - fruit machines are noteable by their absence Also those dodgy boards outside that pretend to be chalk boards but all have the same pre-printed font Corporate promotions are also largely unnoticed (by me anyway)
  2. Please - no anti-American rants. Whilst it's completely easy to fall into that trap with the current administration and well publicised surveys about... oooh, anything - there is no denying how much good there is also To travel there and meet some of the most warm-hearted and intelligent people, and see some of the most amazing scenes (urban and rural) is to open ones mind. If they relied on media reports of Britain (which I'm sure some do) then they would think of us as in equally stereotypical terms But this administration does stink the place up
  3. Good question macroban - I would say the majority of LL businesses are ok with it. Unfortunately I can some of the off-main-road establishments suffering - unless we drinkers unite and do our best
  4. * have seen enough "wee glasses" in last week to last me another year * * I'll have a large on tho ! * * Cheers m'dears. * * raises glass to room and wishes everyone a great weekend * (starting now)
  5. All I'm saying is.... I've never seen them in the same room together
  6. * Peterman's is the pint of choice at the moment - good choice TT * * Holy cow Citizen Ed - Marlboro full strength - you had to fall off the wagon this hard??? *
  7. And it means I'll be able to go to pubs until I'm 90 instead of 80!
  8. What kind of scoreage are we looking at in these games?
  9. Hi DPF I did catch your earlier post about a similar incident 3 months ago - thought I had referred to it. Maybe I'm not covering myself in glory as you say and if my responses are considered "very strange" then that's a shame Asset posted the initial message and is someone on the forum I have a LOT of time for. And I think my initial response was one of shock/concern. So I'm not questioning the source or intentions at all There aren't many ways to use words that don't come across as emotive on topics like this - or at least I can't seem to. If this person is still loose and ready to try again I am as concerned as anyone. And the news editors may consider it small potatoes compared to daily shootings - but then again has anyone reported it to them? I should probably stop as I am probably digging myself in deeper - but am a bit unclear why
  10. Was Steven Frost all cleaned up from his Glasto residency? And wasn't Eclair in Oz for a few months?
  11. LOUNGED!!! oh, wait.... I've not heard of them - but desperately need the storage space so will check it out
  12. Of course I don't expect something to be true just because the media haven't got on to it - and I hope my genuine concern about something like this happening is also evident But I am surprised at the lack of any attention other than a school letter and a local forum, given the recent circumstances. If this person has struck twice now, has anyone with any details highlighted it to get more exposure so the person doesn't strike again (or at least makes it less likely) I don't wish to cast any aspersions but by trying to firm up some details it appears I am. As snorky points out, kids don't usually just get plucked off the street - certainly not at this age and with friends? So if it has happened shouldn't we be doing MORE - maybe someone is and I just don't know about it
  13. ooh - good spot ed-Pete. We know Asset is female as well... C'mon Asset, fess up
  14. If there is any from me, it's not sceptisism about you or the letter being real Asset - honest guv But something doesn't sit 100% - if the school had seen suspicious behaviour I would have thought that warrants a letter to parents. But in the wake of recent events if someone actually got hold of a child and ran for it but was foiled (after an allegedly similar recent event in the area we later learn) then I would have thought at the very least BBC London would be at the scene and covering it? And if not why not? ed-pete: I'm not saying it didn't happen. But saying it definitely happened when you are at least twice removed doesn't make it a case-closed. And if it definitely did happen are we absolutely sure this wasn't play-acting amongst people who know each other? That could sound harsh I know but just trying to square the facts. I repeat - if this did genuinely happen and there were witnesses I would expect more than a letter from a school (that sort of thing used to be for poor grades!) - I would want media coverage with on site reporters saying "have you seen the person who matches this description?"
  15. Tom, Tom, Tom... What's with the CAPS SHOUTING Not a bad point tho
  16. NTV was the offshoot of the current trend to TLA a pub - so East Dulwich Tavern becomes EDT, Crystal Palace Tavern becomes CPT etc NTV was coined to include one of our least favourite boozers - Never The Vale
  17. I did phrase it as a serious question didn't I? No idea why - it was just a whimsical thought and I posted it - I must try harder The pub itself is looking pretty good tho - but then the removal of those red signs advertising 10 steak meals and bottle of wine for a fiver alone would make it look good
  18. It's all happening up that end isn't it. But no I don't know unfortunately. Wouldn't be surprised to see them reopen as flats
  19. Beer I promised? I need to be more careful ;-) But yes I'll be there and look forward to meeting everyone again - veterans and noobies alike
  20. *Bob* - you forgot to mention that no voice was raised despite relentless rain for the duration. Looking at the footage on TV it does appear as if everyone was miserable but I had a similar puss on despite the fact I was having a great time..
  21. Should this thread be renamed "The Plough Pub to re-open"
  22. DM - I'm assuming you mean the attempted abduction and not the first ever official warning? Indeed I was shocked not only to read the initial post but that something similar was attempted 3 months back.
