  2. Scrape out the loose rotten wood, brush liberally with wood hardener before filling. You can also get resin products, which act as both a penetrating hardener and filler.
  3. What's wrong with Dad music? You'd prefer a nice bit of Little Mix?
  4. I thought Drive was OK. Would have liked a few more words. Tarantino - I actually think Jackie Brown is a cracking film too. Kill Bill/Basterds/Django are all perfectly enjoyable too but not exactly classics.

  6. How old is the battery? If it's much over five yrs old, might be time for a replacement.
  7. Forest Gump, Pearl Harbour, that sodding Benjamin Button thing... ARRRRGGGHHHHHRRRR
  8. Oh, I liked a lot of the stuff in there... the fudge and chocolate covered marshmallows in particular... and they weren't all that expensive. It's just the bog standard pick-and-mix type stuff which I thought was overpriced.
  9. Good on you JohnL, but anecdotal evidence suggests you're in the minority. When a woman stands at the bottom of the stairs avec buggy and nobody offers to help... and then starts asking passers by who all apprently have dodgy knees/hips... and then starts carrying the bloody thing up the stairs on her own and still nobody steps in... your faith in humanity starts to take yet another nosedive.
  10. This is true.

I don't mind paying a bit of money for some chocolate or fudge or whatever if it's nice and made in small batches. But generic cola bottles/flying saucers/fried eggs/pink shrimps... they're making a serious markup on that stuff.
  12. You have to go up two flights on stairs at Peckham Rye to reach a platform. There is no lift. If you see a parent struggling with a pram, or anybody else struggling to carry something up/down the stairs, why not offer to help them? It's pretty amazing that so many people seem to have absolutely no interest in helping others out.
  13. Brad and his guys just finished transforming the exterior of our house, painstakintly painting over the horrible pebbledash, stripping all the woodwork back and filling the rot, and leaving it all looking fantastic. Highly recommended. But Brad... living in Camberwell is nothing to be ashamed about!

  15. I really think Cameron has done an abysmal job of promoting the 'no' vote. He just sounds so bloody desparate. If I was Scottish, I'd probably be wondering why the govt seemed so desperate to keep Scotland in the union.
  16. Bellenden Rd, Fenwick Rd, round top edge of Peckham Rye, Wood Vale, Court Lane, Dulwich Village, Red Post Hill, Denmark Hill, Dog Kennel Hill and back... used to be my 10K route. It's all pretty hilly round here. After running a 10K round these parts, running on a flat course makes you feel like Mo Farah.
  17. If Scotland get their independence then you can bet that Wales will be hot on their heels. Word is that Cornwall want some degree of autonomy too. Then all we have to do is get rid of the north, and then we'll be getting somewhere.

    rubbish posts

There used to be a spam bot going by the name of "snorky" who posted the same message every day about keeping cats in sheds and estate agents shoes. Took admin ages to figure out how to block it.
  19. My point is that a technical infringement isn't necessarily wrong/punishable. And also that council vehicles are not subject to the same restrictions as the rest of us, and there's no point pretending they are. I'm contributing because to me this just looks like misguided revenge. I'm being sarcastic because it's in my nature. And also because, naturally, I am a southwark camera car driver.

    Hipsters

    Sounds more hippy than hipster.
  21. We've been here before, several times. Traffic wardens or camera cars parked illegally, caught on camera. Nothing will be done. The council are hardly going to ticket one of their own vehicles. The OP may possibly have him on a technicality, but complaining about someone pulling up and briefly using their phone with the engine running is trivial nit-picking, in reality it doesn't even warrant a slap on the wrist. Stopping by a junction on a double-yellow is more serious, but even then... what do you actually think Southwark will do? And Tessa Jowell? Seriously?
  22. Oh yeah... real dangerous. Lucky nobody was killed.
  23. I'm no fan of these camera cars either, but... none of you have ever pulled up on a double yellow line for a couple of seconds to make a phone call or something?
  24. So where is a good place to live as a student? Fun/lively parts of N/E London are all way more expensive. Ditto basically the whole of W London. Brixton's more expensive. The decent bits of Peckham are only slightly cheaper.
  25. No, of course not. They're too busy demonstrating how much they care about the poor and the elderly. By posting on here about Iceland.
