  2. Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Three out the four holes I drilled were fine but the other just wouldn't hold anything. Yeah... I've been there. Ended up smashing out a large chunk of crumbling brick and plaster and filling in with cement. Then re-drilling when set. That held it!
  3. I tend to agree, it's basically just gossip - I wouldn't hold my breath. Can't say it bothers me all that much either way.
  4. Someone once posted and said they work for Waitrose, and they're up for it if/when a premises turns up. James Barber also said that Waitrose were interested in the Iceland site if the whole planning for the M&S store didn't go through.
  5. He did indeed write some classic songs, I cannot disagree.
  6. I guess Bob Marley's OKish but there's plenty of reggae I prefer. And all that rastafari crap is idiotic beyond belief. Music for teenagers to get stoned to while calling each other "man".
  7. Was Bob Marley a suggestion for someone's who overrated, or universally appreciated?
  8. Even if it's a solid brick wall... a lot of these old houses have pretty crumbly brickword, covered in layers of equally crumbly plaster which have been built up over the years. If your house is anything like mine, you'll need large screws (80 or 100mm) with matching wall plugs. That should ensure that you're screwing deep into the brick.
  9. It's not Upper Street... or even Northcote Rd. There's a limit to how much shite stuff/jack wills type nonsense the area can support.
  10. I'm sure other branches of Adventue Bar are doing well, but the formula of gaudy cocktails, bottled lager and blaring chart music was all wrong for the type of people who seem to be settling in ED these days (reasonably affluent thirty-somethings, young families, etc).
  11. What CM said. There is quite a lot of competition at the moment... loads of houses on the market, prices mainly seem very high to me.

I must have missed it. A few doors down from the post office (towards the station). i.e. on the other side of the road to Asda.

I happen to hate it. But I love eating, so can sometimes justify the hassle of all the prep.
  15. You need a minimum of Meat, potatoes, 2 veg, gravy. Ideally meat cooked on a bed of veg to munge up into the gravy. Yorkshire pud is essential for beef, or stuffing with chicken or pork. Maybe chipolata sausages. You're talking at least an hour of prep and 30 mins washing up. Worth it for a big family meal though!
  16. I would have thought anywhere popular would have such a turnover that fresh roasties would be constantly on the go. What I absolutely cannot forgive are those awful "roast" potatoes places buy frozen in bulk. Naming no (ahem.. The Dog..) names. A roast at home is almost always better, but to be fair it's a lot of effort.
  17. It isn't necessarily difficult to extend your central heating system, using flexible pipes (although many plumbers will sneer at it). But if you've definitely ruled it out, maybe a wall mounted oil-filled electric radiator?
  18. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've never jad a decent roast potato when having a roast out Yeah, why is that? Nobody ever seems to be able to get the spuds crispy. Surely it's not a lot to ask!
  19. I'm surprised Nunhead still doesn't have any restaurants though. Surely only a matter of time.
  20. It's not going to be a Cath Kidston store per se, but as a "Selfridges Local" it will carry a small selection of Cath Kidston products.
  21. It's an advert... surely not the words of Time Out themselves. Bag - some people haven't moved on since 1985. Come into taaahn, see a show, eat at Angus Steak House or Chinatown. Or both.
  22. Ron70, I know what you mean... I can't help wondering what people think, when they're read the hype about Peckham and then step out of the station onto Rye Lane. There are creeping signs of gentrification along some of the side streets, and of course Bellenden Rd. But any newcomers who are hoping Peckham will turn into Clapham/ED/whatever are going to be seriously disappointed!
  23. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ramones Not sure they're overrated, as such... most people who own their t-shirts have never heard their music. It's a strange phenomenon.
  24. Mustard Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The new ones last about 5 years, apparently. I don't think that's true. Just a line plumbers (or service contract engineers) will tell you if they want to sell you a new one. If should last at least ten years of normal use unless it's a complete piece of crap.
  25. To be fair, there are clear arguments on both sides. If you want pubs that do a nice Sunday roast and a good range of beers, maybe a nice local bakery and butcher, and one or two decent restaurants.. but can't afford an area that already has these things... then you don't have much choice but guess which areas are going to come up in the world and place your bets.
