  1. Oh, and I've also had the same trick ("it was a cash price all along, otherwise we wouldn't have given you this deal") for a 40K building job. When of course they'd made no such mention of this when quoting us.
  2. Are you guys talking about the place which is now the "Grand Union" or something... just by the cut-through between Camberwell Grove and Grove Lane?
  3. Of course most tradesmen prefer cash. But I've not had someone offer me two different prices before... it's a pretty cunning way of pushing the blame of their morally dubious practises back onto the customer.

  6. On an idealogical level, yes I agree that the LWW is not unreasonable. But on a more individual level... I suspect (although of course I have no evidence) that we're talking about mainly fairly young people who have made a conscious choice to live what they perceive to be a bohemian lifestyle. Young, personable people who could have all sorts of options ahead of them if they wanted.
  7. It would probbaly be open to abuse though...
  8. TBH I find it hard to muster much sympathy for the Ritzy strikes. I guess I find it hard to empathise.. if I wasn't happy with my job, I'd go and find a new one. We're not talking about people with highly specific skillsets, or performing vital services.
  9. Yep there are some good covers in there... I like covers which reinvent the original. Although Muse's version of Feeling Good is quite annoying.
  10. I've left reviews in the past which were fair and balanced, but could be seen as negative overall... only to get a call the next day from the tradesman to ask that I remove the post. Frankly, I don't need the hassle.
  11. You have to get there early (before doors open) and queue up, that way you should get an appointment that morning. I know it's tough with kids/work, but it's pretty much the only option. The Peckham walk-in centre is a good facility, but it's not a substitute for a GP. They can't refer you to hospitals/clinics for specialist treatment, they won't book follow-up appointments, etc.
  12. People complain about this surgery more than the others, therefore its being singled out? Rubbish.
  13. I really like Sylvan Post... one of my favourites in the wider area.
  14. Otta does have a beard though. And tattoos. Hipster scum.
  15. You can't really get any more middle class than poking fun at the middle class.
  16. Drop-in systems are fine for emergencies, but totally unacceptable for more routine visits. People have lives, commitments, responsibilities. We should be able to book appointments. They used to offer you an appointment with a lead time of a few weeks - which was beyond crap, but at least you could get one. Now they just tell you that there are no appointments available, period.
  17. Yeah it's a big site. I wonder what the upper floors will be used for?
  18. I would vote... but really, really don't want to be added to TimeOut's spam mail list.
  19. It's OK in the mornings usually (leaving around 7:30-7:50). Evenings (leaving LB at 7ish) are a joke.
  20. That sounds like some pretty shit hot research.
  21. I've always been a bit anti-fashion... when I was a teen I just wore the cheapest black jeans I could buy with rock t-shirts. Now I wear crap dad clothes.
  22. Yeah I picked up some Cesar Augustus from Sainsburys. It rules.
  23. Blue Moon is a slightly sickly imitation of a proper belgian wit, but it's far from the worst beer ever.. I'd probably go for that over a corona/sol type of thing. But speaking of Mexican beer... negra modelo is really quite acceptable IMO. Not tried any "obscure" mexican beers, apparently there is some quite reasonable stuff out there.
  24. You've basically got the choice of either restricting width with bollards/gates, or restricting parking to give large vehicles room to turn. The problem with the latter is that sometimes residential roads need access for large vehicles. Deliveries, skips, scaffolding, vehicle recovery, fire engines, etc.
  25. Seems to be related to the "Dig This" nursery... they already have a garden centre in New Cross, and a fruit/veg box delivery business.
