  1. Ali Baba juice is REALLY good (and they do "normal" juices too if you don't fancy the exotic concoctions). And Four Quarters sometimes do cocktails based on Ali Baba juices (not sure if that's a permanent thing or not). Also the little curry stand/shack thing next door is pretty good... they make the naan fresh on the spot.

I think it's simply been moved 1-2 miles south. So you want them to fly over someone else's home... just not yours. Is that correct?
  3. And all in the space of a mere 80 years.
  4. Fazer, do you think the problem is that the volume of air traffic has increased and needs to be curbed? Or that planes are being disproportionately routed over this part of London? (without mentioning the obvious third option..)

Unfortunately Frog Chorus, Mull of Kintyre, and a string of performances at major events, bobbing his stupid turtle head along to "Hey Jude", have completely soiled his legacy. That awful thing he did with Dave Grohl didn't help either. The popular opinion now seems to be that he has always been shit, but it's simply not the case. Surely Keane, Travis, and similar latter-day easy listening is not really critically acclaimed, and therefore not overrated as such..
  6. Peckham has loads going for it these days, but the nicer bits are not really that much cheaper than ED.

To me, it doesn't really say any more than a beauty pageant contestant hoping for world peace. Just becuase you agree with it, doesn't make it insightful.
  8. McCartney is much maligned. I think people forget that a lot of his Beatles songs were absolute belters. And even post-Beatles... Band On The Run is actually a pretty solid record (not great of course, but decent).
  9. Imagine as a piece of music is derivative, corny and completely unremarkable. I can only assume that the lyrics strike a chord with people... but let's face it, they're a load of hippy bollocks really.
  10. Arcade Fire. I just don't get them at all.
  11. Don't think they're doing proper meals at the moment... more tea/coffee, cakes, sandwiches, salads, soup etc.
  12. We popped in too - the coffee was really good, nice big space which should (obviously) be very kid friendly. Didn't see the soft play thing at the back, but sure it will be popular.
  13. I think Forest Gate is improving... you could possibly say it is to Wanstead what Peckham/Nunhead are to ED. But while Wanstead is nice, it feels very suburban to me... not really like London. Good transport, though. Apparently Walthamstow is on-the-up, filling up with former Hackney and Stoke Newington residents who can't afford a house in their old stomping ground. But still far, far cheaper than round here.

Didn't know there'd been something else there in between...
  15. Yeah... after a couple of years of rumours that Peckham was 'happening'... things have actually started happening in 2014!
  16. Where is this beer and hot sauce place going to be?
  17. Pretty Pregnant? Was that a real shop or did you just invent it?

  19. Crystal Palace is a good area, but unfortunately you couldn't really call it "cheap" either. Penge is nearby though and is apparently on the up, so personally I'd take a look round there.
  20. "Jus De Pommeraie" pear juice is good... very thick consistency, which prevents me from swigging it as quickly I would as a coke or OJ.

I dunno... a few people I work with moved to Sutton for this very reason. Excellent schools and it's not expensive (although rising faster than most). But seriously, who actually wants to live in Sutton?
  22. BrandNewGuy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > None of the medieval prettiness of Bruges, but > better at everything else and far cheaper. But isn't the medieval prettiness basically the whole reason for going? Bruges isn't exactly expensive either. Ghent is nice, btw... a bit more fun than Bruges, perhaps.

But it's not unlikely that out of the options available to you locally, you might decide that a private school will offer a higher standard of education than the local state school (or at least the one that you've been offered). The point is that everyone (well, most parents) do what they believe is best for their children, it can be a tough choice and there's no absoluate right or wrong.
  24. Will judge for myself if they arrive (avoiding the mash/baby food ones)! I was quite a ready meal connoisseur in my bachelor days, I'll have you know.
  25. Bussey Building is a large nightclub/cafe/theatre building, opposite where Blenheim Grove meets Rye Lane.
