  1. The article Jah posted is from a pretty horrendous American christian website. There's another article on there that cliams it's a satanic ritual, and any christian who has done the bucket should pray for forgiveness. And the opposition to embryonic stem cell research represents the kind of narrow minded stupidity that we really should have left behind last century.
  2. I don't think many houses round here would be big enough for the middle class family with resident servant scenario. Maybe the detatched houses on Elsie Rd, or the three storey houses e.g. Rodwell Rd?
  3. TBH I'm not going to lose sleep about dogs chewing swings, but some of the replies are pretty childish.
  4. Cobra is OK with a curry. But Cobra Zero... we'll have to agree to disagree on that one!

    Dropped curbs

Sounds odd to allocate 6m or so to each driveway, given that each house is around 5m wide. Not sure why mums (or dads) with prams need to be more visibile than those without.
  6. I think I'd be a lot less cynical about it if the bucketeers mentioned the charity in their videos, and at least drew some attention to the charity and not just themselves.

Pretend you're going to do it, then throw the water over the camera and give your viewers the finger.
  8. Oh, and the Cobra stuff is foul... avoid at all costs.
  9. I think Becks Blue is drinkable. More palatable with food though, than on its own. I do like fizzy drinks and juice, but I just drink them too quickly, so it's nice to have an alternative. The Erdinger stuff just tastes odd. Won't be buying that again. Brewdog "Nanny State" was an interesting option, but seems to have been discontinued.
  10. I hate everything about it (other than the fact that it's apparently earning money for a charity). The look-at-me attention seeking nature of it. The fact that these dorks putting their vids up on facebook usually seem oblivious to the charity. And also... pouring a bucket of cold water over yourself (in the summer) is hardly the most difficult or unpleasant task I can think of.
  11. Personally, I wouldn't buy a suit if I didn't already have one. If the weather's not cold, surely black trousers/tie with white shirt should be OK. Also, maybe worth nothing that Moss Bros rent out normal suits (not just morning/evening suits) if you really want to wear a suit but not buy one.

  13. TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the study found that their impacts depend upon the number of times that > plastic bags are reused. You don't say. Was this "study" conducted by primary school children?
  14. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What exactly is a meme? I thought it was the > pictures with captions, but it seems to be more > than that. I thought it was more general than that... sort of a cultural trend. Whether it's dressing a certain way, a certain type of music, the use of Facebook, or pictures of cats with mis-spelled captions.

  16. Although saying that, I agree that a ban is excessive... if I can't pop into a shop for an impromptu purchase, may as well just buy everything online.
  17. I gotta say, Penguin... the comparison to religion (let alone hardline fundamentalist movements) seems strange to me. At least the belief that bags are harmful is based on things that actually exist.
  18. Funny... I had most of the current crop pegged as wannabe toff rugby boys, who found that their 2:2 in Leisure Studies afforded them limited career options.
  19. I'm sure a keen DIYer such as KK could easily enlarge the coal chute to create an effective booby trap, perhaps hooked up to the doorbell.
  20. We've been here before with the "SNUB" campaign. It was largely a good idea. But one (now gone) wine retailer didn't stock bags of any kind and seemed to piss off a few people. Think you need to be careful not to be too militant.
  21. I think the "side return" is actually the name for the space/path at the side. I imagine the term pre-dates the trend for kitchen extensions.
  22. If a thirty-something with an unironed work shirt and a slight pot belly, who shaves every three days and gets a hair cut every three months, and whose taste in most things are out of date by around twenty years, qualifies as a hipster... then yes, guilty as charged. Although I did go out to a bar last night. There was food, but the menu consisted entirely of cheese toasties.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I tend to think that a Gastro Pub is a Pub that > sells food but does not have a specific dining > area. > Like The Bishop, The Great Exhibition , The EDT, > The Plough. Pretty much the opposite of my understanding... a gastro-pub primarily exists for its food, has a dining area, often accepts table reservations, but the ambience/decor is still pub-style and you can go in just for a drink if you want. By your definition, Wetherspoons would be a gastro pub.
  25. I wonder why anyone needs a cold water (or even hot water) tank. As long as you have reasonable mains pressure, isn't a big combi boiler enough for a 4 bed/2 bath house?
