  1. I had Motown, Beach Boys, Beatles forced on me... hated it as a kid but learned to love it. My Dad also introduced me to Duane Eddy, which I *sort of* appreciated.

Are your mates weightlifters or something??
  3. Treat yourself to a roast swan stuffed with widgeon while you're at it.
  4. If I was the admin I would give out the IP address, so we could figure out which shop we should really be boycotting!
  5. I think when in a vulnerable position, most women would trust another woman more than a man... correct me if you disagree though. But that doesn't mean a man shouldn't try to help, if nobody else appears to care. I doubt the police or ambulance service would be of any help, at least not in London.
  6. Two first time posters with exactly the same experience... warrants at least an check of the IP addresses, don't you think?
  7. The guy who runs/ran the Canning used to post on here a lot, didn't he? I remember him saying that because they are tied into buying beer from the pubco at a ridiculous price, many pubs *have* to sell food simply to survive - in fact they sometimes sell drinks at a loss. Personally I often find myself choosing pubs which serve food, as if I'm meeting friends for a drink I usually don't have time to go home to make dinner first. And drinking on an empty stomach makes me feel ill!

I know what you mean, I have had similar thoughts myself. The term "Paki" is not intrinsically offensive in itself, as an abbreviation of Pakistani. But the word has had negative, insulting, even violent connotations for so long, and still does... it is far too early to "reclaim" it by dropping it in with otherwise civil conversation.
  9. I like the Beatles - for the most part - but I would be quite happy to never hear "Here Comes The Sun" again. Ever.

Actually lozzyloz... now you mention it, I think it's actually the weather forecasters who are dressed in military attire. All very strange!

Italian news is the best - or at least the most bizarre. Scantily clad women, and men dressed in full military attire.
  12. Keef - that's a new one on me, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Christians are always having to come up with reasons why they pick and choose which parts of their holy text to believe!
  13. The last few times I've been there, I've got duck breasts, lamb chops, nice sausages... all cheaper than Sainsburys. JamesG, what did you buy in there which was so overpriced? (apart from the 3 bird roast).
  14. Generally good meat, inexpensive, knowledgable staff. The only downside as far as I am concerned is the queue. What is your beef (boom boom) with WR?
  15. I would imagine that the police are totally out of touch, and are in no way equipped to advise the public how to comunicate with these kids. I still remember when I was at school, having police visits... "personally I don't take drugs, I get high enough on life", etc...
  16. Admittedly I wasn't considering the entire history of the label, more the typical "Motown sound" of Martha and the Vandellas, Four Tops, The Supremes, even 60s era Stevie Wonder. All that stuff is pretty hard to beat IMO! Stuff like Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding doesn't really do it for me... great singers, but the material just seems a little pedestrian.

You can easily imagine a scenario where some tribes or villages were religious and others weren't, hence possibly resulting in this sort of genetic imprint... and of course religion played an important part in society for a long time. But that doesn't mean that it still should. It's a mistake to assume that genetic traits serve a useful purpose. How about medical conditions and allergies which are genetic - what useful purpose do they serve? Natural selection hasn't ironed out all our imperfections.
  18. I don't blame you at all BBW, you were only doing what the rest of us feel like doing every time those little b@st@rds get on ths bus. Zero sympathy for the kid - in fact I reckon that when they play their music on the bus, they're often doing it as a direct challenge to other passengers. Either to assert themselves, or to try and provoke a reaction to give them an excuse to administer a beating. Either way, it's about time we stopped being scared of kids, it's a terrible state for a society to be in... I wish more people stood up to them.
  19. I wonder whether an axe would suffice in a similar situation today?

  21. Bit uncalled for, karter...
  22. Yes, at the moment you'll find it hard to get any mortgage if you don't have a 20% deposit. But you can still get loans for around 4x salary, and at 5% fixed for 2 or 3 years... it's not all that bad really. I know several potential first time buyers who are wondering whether to take the plunge this year.
  23. There appears to be a Swedish band of that name... www.myspace.com/thedandelions
  24. Also bear in mind that when the crash is over, there will be a large number of first time buyers, who have all been saving their cash, waiting for the right time to buy. So yeah, I guess the lower end of the market could be the first to bounce back!
  25. Erm... Motown is a record label, bon3yard. Is that a nomination for under-rated or over-rated? The Holland/Dozier/Holland team wrote some awesome songs IMO.
