  2. The Goose Green end of Crystal Palace Road is lovely, one of the best spots in ED in my opinion. The Plough end is a bit more scruffy, but still not bad. The Castle pub has been known to get a little boisterous from time to time, but it's not a huge problem. As for the buses... I honestly don't know why they bother publishing timetables because they seem totally random to me. The number 12 has always seemed like the most frequent route in the area though, as far as I can tell.
  3. Yeah... some of us may not be a fan of the place, but no need for snide remarks. These things often ruin people's lives (no exaggeration).
  4. Holyfield has no chance whatsoever, there's actually a danger he'll get seriously hurt one of these days.

And there's not necessarily a correlation between a religious upbringing and juvenile thuggery. In fact, two of the biggest thugs when I was at school were from a strict religious family! It's up to parents to teach their children what's right and wrong, and more importantly to teach them how to decide for themselves what is right and wrong, through experience, observation and empathy. Not to take a dubious ancient text as some sort of twisted moral guide. Sorry, going off on a tangent again...
  6. Preaching on a bus, so they can intimidate innocent people - who cannot escape - with their absurd views... that's pretty low in my book! I'd much rather be the middle class white male tutting away, than a raving lunatic shouting at normal people on a bus, and generally making everyone's journey unpleasant. Actually, I'd rather be on the train instead.
  7. Thanks for your aplology, Mr Denver. If it was too late for the last train, that is an acceptable explanation.
  8. Haha, this is making me laugh... as the residents of Copleston Rd, Oglander Rd, and the environs of the fictional "Bellenden Village" cause an outcry because, erm, it's not in Dulwich.
  9. No no... not the Wetherspoons Curry Club!! I actually went to Ganapati last night... it was pretty good. One of the dishes was lovely, the other was a little bland. The dessert was delicious. But they screwed up our reservation, and they didn't bring the veg dish at first - so I think they need to sort out the service a little bit.
  10. I went to see Haye vs Monte Barrett a few weeks ago. He looked pretty good in that fight, although I had a few concerns... -Barrett is a short-ish heavyweight, I don't know how he'd cope with East Euro giants like the Klitschkos and Valuev. -Can he take a punch? He's been on the canvas a couple of times when I think he shouldn't have been. -He is quick with his fists and his feet, but sometimes he looks clumsy when he's bounding round the ring, and I think he could easily be caught flush on the chin in these situations. -He has a habit of either keeping his left hand very low (stomach level) or very high (in an almost thai boxing-esque position), almost inviting the punches in... presumably confident that he will succesfully counterpunch. Looks very dangerous to me. -Will he get exhausted in the clinches, with the stronger, bigger guys?
  11. Anyone remember flavour'n'shake?

  13. The Redstar have had numerous attempts at a re-launch, not sure this one will be any more successful than the others. Still, hope it manages to reclaim it's former glory, it used to be a handy option for continuing the drinking (and displays of foolish dancing) after being chucked out of the EDT or wherever.
  14. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As you say, each to their own :) Yeah, whatever works best for you really. The service leaves a lot to be desired, without doubt. I was just surprised that someone was getting a bus from near London Bridge back to East Dulwich. Although the train is pretty inconvenient after 8pm.
  15. By road has always been easily the quickest way to get to Croydon, anyway. But it's a shame that our worsening public transport is leaving people with no choice.

I had a pack this morning! They're not particularly spicy. Not actually sure if they're nice, either.
  17. Don't buy foreign currency, commodities, oil stocks, or whatever that chap suggested. You may just as easily lose money, and I assume you're not in the business of taking such risks. Your goal should be to match inflation if you can, with the minimum of risk. Premium bonds are not a good investment either, even if you consider the "fun" factor (i.e. not knowing whether your money is going to decrease in value before your eyes). If you think you may need to access some of it, then maybe put half into a cash ISA, and half into 12 month bonds.
  18. >Once oil becomes too expensive to waste on such things as petrol and the cost of hydrogen production is parity or cheaper then people will switch to that But obviously large amounts of energy will be needed for the hydrogen production, and unless we all cut down our consumption dramatically, renewable sources aren't going to cut it - and will be more expensive than nuclear. So we have a whole new set of problems, ie how to dispose of all the nuclear by-product. If we're not careful it will all lead to another cycle of self destruction!
  19. JamesG, I don't think there's any choice, any other boundary is purely arbitrary and will cause squabbles.
  20. Around ?2 for a 15 min journey on the train, and you know when the next one's coming... vs ?1 for a 45 min journey on the bus, and you have to stand in the cold without any idea how long you'll be there? Still, each to their own...
  21. Surely in times when it's hard to sell a property, they won't be *lowering* commission?
  22. These chaps have the right idea: http://www.photomediagroup.com/archive/2003-winter/img/lh-pushkarBus.jpg
  23. Well, that's 95% of us forumites ruled out then!
  24. Bike racks... awful idea! The last thing we want is to have buses waiting at the stops while people load or unload their bikes. It makes the journey longer and clogs up the road. We need to get the buses moving again asap, that was one of the objectives of the oyster card and bendy buses. It might work on express services (if they exist) - on anything else, forget it.
