  1. Just measured it... The Woodman is 1km from the SE22 border. Hoopers is 0.1km from the SE22 border. Still, it makes no difference. Hoopers is in Cambwerwell, The Woodman is in Sydenham. They're both excluded!!
  2. dukesdenver - I'm sure you were rather cheesed off, but I can't understand why anyone would get the bus home from Monument, when you're just a 5 min walk from London Bridge station?
  3. I disagree, the original (classic) lineup cannot be beaten. Guitar - Comrade Galhammer Bass and Embroidery - Our Dear Leader Drums - The Lonely Dissident
  4. Park free from Joggers? Seems rather arbitrary... you want an area of the park where you are not allowed to move beyond walking pace?
  5. Why bother with juice, just eat the fruit (and/or veg). Then you get all the fibre too, and it fills you up so you're so tempted to stuff yourself with double-deckers!
  6. Went into the Bethnal Green branch yesterday... CDs, DVDs and games still more expensive than Amazon (and nothing in there you'd want, anyway). Moderate reductions on low-grade confectionary. Only 10% off light-sabres. Most disappointing.
  7. Keef already admitted that he shouldn't have said it, and that he doesn't like violence. Let's leave it there.
  8. You could try asking in the Turkish supermarket on Lordship Lane.
  9. Madness - Prince Buster
  10. Keef, of course not all bus drivers are dangerous, and of course there are irresponsible cyclists and taxi drivers, car drives, etc on the road too. But honestly, quite a few bus drivers act horrendously... certainly not the majority of them, but quite a few. I'm all for reserving judgement - as we don't know all the details - but at the end of the day the driver assaulted someone. It's out of order, it's not something to be laughed at.
  11. "Best food/drink retailer" seems like an obvious omission to me, given the number of delis, bakeries, wine shops, etc. Or if that's too specific, just a "best shop" category.
  12. Down At The Tube Station At Midnight - The Jam
  13. Blackbird bakery is on Grove Vale, not far from the station.
  14. I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement - Ramones
  15. Sounds about right. Very small potted trees (maybe 2ft) are being sold outside sainsburys for ?25.
  16. I think we should take a leaf out of Sydenham's book. http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/london/glamour-lounge "Oozing class & sophistication, its retro/ glamourous interiors, large dance floor areas, VIP areas..."
  17. Even though I've never met you, Huguenot... I can imagine a 17 year old version of yourself, proclaiming to his peers that car ownership - to which they all strived - was a "victory of status over economics"!
  18. They really need to start rolling out those arrival display things to more bus stops... although I admit that making them vandal-proof may not be a cheap exercise.
  19. ?9? Nine Pounds??!! I paid 3 times that over the weekend! And it came with a silly plastic base which didn't fit... so I had to saw down the trunk to size... and then bash the base onto the tree with a hammer.
  20. Well, speaking as someone who recently went to see the boxing at the O2, and therefore missed the last tube... I can say that the public transport was pretty "inconvenient". Perhaps people wouldn't feel the need to own cars if we had a transport infrastructure suitable for a major city in the 21st Century. I personally believe that the emphasis should be on creating attractive alternatives to motoring, rather than punishing the motorist or purely making them feel guilty. It also seems strange in the extreme to blame the motorist for war in the middle east - especially when the majority of the country have far less options than we do in London. And also to suggest that cars create excessive noise pollution, when we have buses and lorries on the roads... again, it doesn't ring true. Although to some extent I'm playing the devil's advocate here - I wouldn't personally consider driving to a sports event or concert (thereby being forced to stay sober) unless there was a damn good reason.
  21. 1-2 Crush On You - The Clash
  22. The Hob in Forest Hill is a good one. It's just as close to ED as the Woodhouse. Alleyns Head looks like it has a nice garden for the summer, but it's a pain getting over there.
  23. Or, it encourages you to drive a different route, instead of down a busy shopping street packed with pedestrians, buses, and delivery vans. Now you know you can't go through there, why not check out the map and figure out a better route.
  24. Tell me about it, *Bob*. It could have been lifted directly from "1984", don't you think?
  25. Loads of us have been caught there. Including me - and to be honest it was mainly my fault, I was in a rush and probably not paying enough attention. I paid the fine (I believe it's only ?60 as long as you pay promptly), and put it down to experience. You're obviously pretty pissed off about this, but I think you'd be better off writing to the council or starting a petition for clearer sign posting... that's the *real* issue here. All the talk of democracy, Orwellian blah blah, may be helping you to vent your frustration but you'll find little sympathy.
