  1. >>Bignumber5 I'm not having that. << Heartily seconded. I have been re-reading some of the early short stories which are simply sublime. And I find "A Moveable Feast" ech time I read it a wonderfully evocative memoir. Still, different strokes etc etc
  2. >>Will be interesting to see how the draw pans out tomorrow<< Any idea what time the draw is? As my lot don't play their postponed 3rd round tie until the 13th it would nice to know that we're not facing the prospect of Liverpool or Arsenal yet again!

    Blimey, Les Dawson Lives! :))

I am cautiously optimistic - so much will depend on the quality of the scripts he gets, but Moffat rarely disappoints. I would be surpised though if any actor ever matches David Tennant's amazingly high standard in the role - and, yes, I do include Baker, Pertwee and the rest of them in that assessment.
  5. I reckon it will be a while before Torres gets to score quite such an easy goal as that - but even as a neutral it was nice to see him back.
  6. Today access to Wood Vale from the Lordship Lane end is taped off because water is gushing out of the ground and, amazingly, through the pole of the traffic beacon in about six different places.
  7. >>eater81, any chance you work for a university researching "does headbanging give you a headache" or "men with tiny penises drive flash cars"?<< Sadly, I think what you meant to say was that "men who drive flash cars have tiny penises" B)
  8. *smirks*
  9. >>Still made me laugh though (sorry Simon, not flaming you, honest).<< Oh I believe you - it made me smile too. I am surprised McCabe scored as low as 64% actually. Incidentally you may or may not be interested to know that last weekend McCabe freely admitted Sheffield Utd had so far spent ?1.32 million in legal fees in that affair, but was confident a good chunk of it would have to be repaid by....guess who? :)
  10. I suppose now is as good a time as ever to put in a word for the works of Sir Terry Pratchett, poignant as the new knighthood is. Funnier than Evelyn Waugh & Tom Sharpe combined...
  11. >>Demographics, target market/audiences and stats and figures all mean nothing if people don't purchase something SimonM.>Here's hoping you have a great year in 2009 and sell lots of children's books.<< Thanks for wishing me a great year: happy to reciprocate. I'll not be sellng lots of books though as I am not in the business:))
  12. I would suggest that Cheners has been there "forever and ever" (actually since around 1976 IIRC) because the owner knows the business and his market, and has remained attuned to the demands of the ever-changing ED demographic. In particular he will know which children's books to stock that will sell rather than remain on the shelves forever and ever, and what proportion of his shelves to devote to them. All hail small bookshops that know how to stay in business!:))
  13. Could not have put it better myself!
  14. >>Hmmm, Gerrard charged. Obviously don't know all the facts yet, but why has he even put himself anywhere near that sort of situation, there is no excuse for it.<< Not sure that is entirely fair. You cannot expect him to sit at home watching TV every night. I suspect he gets these situations almost on a weekly basis and has strategies for handling them. Occasionally things will go wrong. He's going to meet Everton or Man Utd supporters everywhere and there'll always be some twerp ready to have a pop or chuck the old taunts at him. It's probably all a plot by Chelsea anyway... And I would love to know who the creative geniuses at the Daily Mash are...Is there anyone else in the UK writing such consistently funny and perceptive stuff? The final paragraph about Nevin & Le Saux was totally on the money
  15. They have paid ?25 between them. The three tenners less the ?3 they got back, less the ?2 the waiter kept. There is and never was a pounnd left over of course :))
  16. Rab C Nesbitt last night - Oh dear oh dear! >:D
  17. Even if it's ?1 million it's not a lot is it, evem for Division 1? So he'll be looking at loans I guess?
  18. .....or did they get them in other parts of their anatomy? B)
  19. Right so that's a Bolton win for sure then? ♠:))
  20. I wonder what "resources" are in fact available to Grayson in January? Which areas of the team need strengthening as a priority? No cheap jokes from me on this occasion you will notice - partly because of seasonal good will, partly because my lot's season is now in something of a wobbly phase (1 point from 12 in the last 4 home games!) .....and away to Wolves on Boxing Day does not fill me with good cheer...

    Strictly Purism

....and I used to think the Doctor Who/Star Trek nerds were obsessive... :))
  22. Grayson? 6-12 months, unless Leeds are rid of Bates
  23. I think "Target Arms" would walk that last award! :)
  24. >>SimonM, I unmask you as Jeremy Clarkson. << Bloody hell that's a low blow! But, yes, I too bought a new paperback copy for an overdue re-reading...:)
