  1. Bromley has/had two for years too! Face it - this is just a deprived area...:))
  2. >>I'm confused.. where is this fabulous section of South London Autobahn where the cars race at high speed and pedestrians risk their lives in a deadly game of virtual 'Frogger' whilst trying to cross the great divide?<< That'd be at the other end of LL, by the Grove Tavern (I refuse to refer to this centuries-old tavern as the "Harvester"!) which really does need some pedestrian phasing/pelican crossings/whatever to help us negotiate the Monaco Grand Prix-stle traffic... Oh and the Forest Hill branch of Blue Mountain was hopelesly positioned from the word "go" - down the road from the station, no room for even outside tables never mind parking...
  3. Well it used to be big enough for a Woolworths...>:D
  4. But there's a "history" of Waitrose in Croydon around there - used to be/may still be a small one down the road almost opposite the side of the Fairfield Halls. It's a much busier area than ED.
  5. Isn't it the case though that only nearby residents and commercial tenants have been given the form, and not those of us living a little further away who nonetheless do cross LL at various approved and unapproved points several times a week?
  6. I think you are lumbered! Congratulations! >:D
  7. Go get her Vince!!!
  8. Someone did ask a pertinent question way back - how many "collisons" involving pedestrians nipping across the road just there have actually been recorded in, say, the last 5 years?
  9. Gracefully, through clenched teeth, Yeah well done Leeds!
  10. I think if you removed the crossing(s) by the EDT you would just encourage more dangerous, illicit crossings by pedestrians: plus it makes more sense having crossings at a major junction
  11. lovely peppery brown meat not pink - and gorgeous light pastry...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (I should get a month's free supply for this, hint, hint)
  12. >>SimonM where are you? Do we have any Wendies on the forum or is it down to a part-time Leeds fan to mock the first double to the Owls since 1913-4!!! Ouch.<< I am sulking under my desk, but enjoyed the positive spin the Blades supporter put on it in "The Observer" - "it only happens once every 95 years". Yeah true....Colin now lives in Beckenham so is almost your neighbour Keef. Anyone else see him on Question of Sport on Friday? Kevin Blackwell has barely been in charge a year, and United have won rather more than they have lost under him, but already the knives are out amongst a certain section of the "supporters". It seems to me some people follow a football club for the sole reason of shouting abuse at the manager...Oh well roll on Saturday and the (untelevised dammit) FA Cup against Hull: be interesting to see how/if the team bounces back!B)
  13. Yesterday's Papers - The Stones
  14. >>Why don't you all give her a good kicking. The amount of money she's had off you she's got it coming.<< Because us sandals-wearing Guardianistas lack the physical co-ordination to give a kicking whilst wringing our hands in anguish... :))
  15. I have to say there are far worse ways to go than by consuming a surfeit of Ayre's most excellent saausage rolls.....and now I feel peckish!
  16. Putting a pedestrian crossing there is something of an old chestnut, usually objected to by local traders and with some justification given the number of parking/drop-off spaces - for both customer cars and delivery vans - that would be cut. You already have the hazard there of the traffic exiting from Matham Grove on to LL or across it so adding a crossing here is not going to be simple but on the whole I think it is desirable for the reasons Sean gives. I think for pedestrians, buggy (etc) users the most hazardous point is the junction of LL with East Dulwich Grove, where basically you have to look three ways - and if you're crossing in a northern direction it can be very awkward spotting cars turning left into EDR from behind you. The islanded crossing by the EDT in theory ought to be the trickiest but I always find it fairly simple to negotiate. I don't think pelicans on the GG roundabout would be a good idea as the effects on congestion would be horrendous.
  17. I only exist in cyberspace....
  18. As a licence payer I wish to register my strongest objection to the EDF fobbing us off with endless repeats! "Disgusted of Underhill"
  19. The trouble with relying merely on the "security" argument, rather than citing the bad manners/looking a pillock argument too, is that only by including the latter can you deal with the twonks wearing baseball caps back to front....:))
  20. Blackburn 1 Aston Villa 2 Chelsea 3 Hull 0 Everton 1 Bolton 1 Man City 2 Middlesbrough 1 Portsmouth 0 Liverpool 1 Sunderland 2 v Stoke 1 West Brom 0 v Newcastle 2 Wigan 1 v Fulham 1 Tottenham 2 v Arsenal 1 (Keane is sure to score!) West Ham 0 Man U 2
  21. Has Ms Harman ever visited either/both of East Street & NCR markets I wonder? They are vastly different in size, nature, history, days open etc. She's not going to have a go at Dulwich Village though is she? I mean, estate agents (remember them?!) love to claim those ?1.5 million and upwards houses in Herne Hill are really on the fringes of the Village....and isn't this where the MP for Peckham still lives?
  22. >>PS Should we start a fire watch team.<< I too wonder if the current "owner" might send around a demolition crew at daybreak one day just out of spite...
  23. I just hope it's not another Indian restaurant...
  24. Ah the ?75K is just for temporary works - that makes a lot more sense. Maybe as the same architect designed Dulwich College the College could be persuaded to support the restoration? And if the ES report is to be believed it looks like that so-called "replica" may be demolished?
  25. Indeed.....but I cannot see ?75,000 going very far at all, given the state of the place.
