closure to post office in Melbourne grove
SimonM replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes the queues are usually small in the Forest Hill Road one, and the staff hekpful! -
Okay then my 4 for the semis are Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona & Roma...

Merde United have only been called such since 1902: Newcastle 1892 (I think). Sheffield United from 1889 >:D< The Media's constant abbreviation of Ferguson's mob to simply "United" pisses off football supporters from Dundee to Torquay...

Well as a neutral it is of coure none of my business really, but (takes deep breath and life in hands) I reckon Arsenal will beat Liverpool over two legs...B)

I am guessing it is really the respective insurance companies that want to lock horns here, rather than the business owners.

Forum "made guy" = an individual (of either/any gender) who hijacks an ED thread and gets it lounged.... "retired brickie from Penge" = worst disguise in the world. "Lovers of the Beautiful Game" = supporters of Sheffield United, all London clubs except Chelsea "Lowlife scum" = supporters of Chelski, Merde United and any Yorkshire football club except Sheffield United.....>:D<

Saw two actors in the space of 100 yards or so walking up NC Road today: one was Nicholas Gleaves and the other wasn't (i.e., the face was all too familiar but I could not put a name to it......hate it when that happens...:'()

Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?
SimonM replied to Siduhe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
>>I have seen two accidents where people have turned right there, one involving a motorcyclist who was hit by a car turning right.<< Was this before or since such right turns were made illegal here though? In any case although I'd like the legitimiate right turn reinstated, I see no reason why this should not be light-controlled. As it is, I have often made this turn illegally when there has been no oncoming traffic - as have many other cars and vans (I see it done all the time, as well as the occasional illegal right turn out of Underhill): and of course buses do it all the time. I suspect making a right turn into Wood Vale legal would be Lewisham's baby not Southwark's... -
Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?

>>If they propose to reinstate the Right turn from LL into Underhill, they should get TFL to put a pedestrian phase into traffic lights on the set by Harvester.>> They should do this anyway irrespective of what they do or don't do elsewhere. I think it is appalling there is no ppedestrian-phase at this junction's lights - you do rather take your life into your hands sometimes when you cross the road here. -
What an amazing. character-ful performance by Arsenal. Looks like reports of their season being over may have been somewhat premature eh? :))
-
>>Uh huh. He's a decent chap, just likes to predict a defeat for the hammers more than most.<< Yeah but no but....Sunderland won at Villa last week, are stronger at home and fighting relegation. The Hammers are safe! :)) Blades are looking for their 5th win in a row tomorrow...

>>Sorry but it has been like that for years and is fairly obvious. << I was about to say this too. I think it has been like this around 30 years but perhaps someone else has a more accurate or definitive answer? -

We are on Underhill and have had this survey too. Turning part of Melford Road one-way, whilst superficially attractive , is I feel an absolute stinker of an idea unless the legal right turn from the South Circular into Underhill Road is also restored. If the scheme is implemented in its present form then those of us who currently have to turn right on to the Melford Road/Lordship Lane junction to get to Underhill will in future have to drive up Overhill and down Belvoir. This is going to make Belvoir a lot busier and make for quite a long detour for anyone wanting to get to Underhill. I never thought the ban on the right turn into Underhill Road was necessary in the first place. Buses are allowed to do it anyway so it cannot be *that* unsafe. The direct consequence of this ban was to make Melford the dangerous bottleneck it now is. The 20mph limit is a fine idea, if somewhat superfluous. I doubt many people much exceed this speed in these strerts anyway - the ones who do will ignore the limits -
To me, Obama comes over on TV as very calm and in control of both himself and his material - truly a TV age candidate.. But he is very raw and inexperienced. I suspect McCain's lot would much rather their man faced him than Hillary and are working hard to achieve this result!

Well, friendly or not, you'd think the French goalkeeper might have been prevailed upon to make one save at least! Every time I watch an England friendly live on TV I vow "never again"...

We managed quite well >>without them for several millenia. >>I speak as a car owner and don't have many qualms about having one. But specious arguments about 'needing' a car just >>don't wash. Well I was in Cambridge over the weekend and, the weather being truly horrendous, I watched both games in full in the hotel bar. I think Steve Bennett was quite dreadful. The Torres booking was ridiculous and other decisions were distinctly dubious. I recall Ronaldo going down in the area quite artistically and appelaing for a penalty, which was rightly waved away by Bennett but really such a blatant dive deserved a yellow. It was quite obvious that Mascherano's second yellow was simply a matter of time - he was giving Bennett so many verbals - and I did wonder if, when it did arrive, it was more the cumulative effect of the previous half hour's rather than the actually quite innocuous circumstance of the 2nd booking. Whichever, Mascherano should have stayed calm and, once it was clear he had quite lost it, his team mates should have dragged him off: one did make the attempt as I recall, but it really needed the team captain to assert his authority. Although it was only 1-0 at the time of the sending-off, Man Utd could and should have been about 3-0 up I thought. Rooney missed two golden chances when the Liverpool goalkeeper was quick off the mark. But the sending-off ruined the contest. Torres could not do much up front on his own against the Man Utd defenders. An equaliser never looked on the cards. It was just surprising really it took so long for the 2nd and 3rd goals to arrive. I was, incidentally, also amused by the light-hearted discussion about who was the more loyal fan. This is one competition I shall never win. I saw Sheffield United - "my" team - play Middlesbrough in the 5th Round of the FA Cup a short while ago and this was the first time I had seen the lads live and in the flesh in 33 years......>:D< (trust me there good reasons!). You'd yhink at the very least they'd have managed a goal for me after all this time....
