  1. Could it be 'branch in his hand' by Sharon Sharde was made into a radio play June 12/13? X
  2. One at the Albrighton centre not sure which day....
  3. A campaign was set up before Christmas to open a new secondary school on the east dulwich hospital site. A steering group of interested parents approached different providers including Charter but decided that the haberdasher Askes proposal was the best and decided to go ahead with them in their proposal. Charter have since decided that they will also bid to open the school and are canvassing for support. The mix up is that originally there was only one proposal which was supported cross party, now there are suddenly two competing proposals. The final decision will be made in June I think.
  4. Why are Charter suddenly interested in starting up a new school?....I am very suspicious of their sudden piggy backing of the hard work done by James Barber and other local parents to get a new school up and running. Today I was asked by a Charter canvasser if I thought the Haberdasher bid was politically motivated...if she means a councillor listening to the needs of families and galvanising support and a process to set one up, then yes, a councillor doing their job! I was also told 'The Charter haven't had have much time' to propose a school....they've had years! As a local parent I would like to have a choice of providers, I may choose Charter, I may choose Haberdashers or a school further away but at least I would have a choice. It makes much more sense to me that if Charter wants to open a new school then they widen their net to a community that doesn't already have what they offer.
  5. Yes this may have changed since my day but I'm with you Simone pretty sure Lewisham is different and we had to ask to be on their list if we were Southwark residents?...
  6. Getting places higher up in schools is much easier....pretty sure Bessemer and Heber have places for the years you are looking for....don't think you need to rush back but contact schools and southwark to get the process running smoothly for when you do get here...
  7. With you all the way splendidlikepeckham...
  8. Personally I'd rather have a new provider like Haberdsher Askes in the area so that I can make a choice between that and Charter. Think this puts Charter in a bad light....people amaze me, no-one was working on a new secondary school for east dulwich....James took on the mantle and things are progressing well, then suddenly everyone is up in arms saying why haven't they been involved and a local school decides they suddenly want to step into the breach on the back of all the hard work already done. Thank you James, thank you parents of the steering committee, I look forward to following the progress of an outstanding new school.
  9. There was a post on the forum yesterday about Kings holding a baby sale to raise funds so maybe they would welcome them...
  10. Helen I am incredibly grateful for your involvement and hard work to try and improve things at DMC....thank you.
  11. Hi Oggy, couldn't tell you as I have only been here 13yrs and yes on balance I preferred the choice of useful independents we had then as opposed to the rows of estate agents we have now.....but I am very grateful for the greatly improved bus service!
  12. The Lane is absolutely crawling with surveyor/development types today....
  13. Got some spare time I'd like to fill!
  14. Maybe having reviewed all the Lewisham applications Lewisham council have decided they don't need one and are looking to save money?...
  15. My understanding is that Bessemer Grange is not closing...
  16. It is 1:1 for under 5's and although you could probably get away with it I worry about insurance if anything happened... recommend Elveden...and pay extra to be central so you don't have to walk too far..you can get a break by putting in clubs and using babysitting service (recommend moonlight spa deal to give yourself a break).....do you have a friend you could offer a free holiday to?....you will not pay extra in accommodation and they could enjoy a spa break Inbetween helping you at the pool? Just cone back from there so feel free to pm any questions...
  17. Didn't know about this.....any local schools been told?...for the record (although not for your piece I'm afraid), I fully support the teachers!
  18. Really interested to hear where people were offered if not one of their choices?...
  19. Fantastic idea.....good luck....can we have one in ED?
  20. No, I think he needs 180 contact details regardless of provider in order to move forward....
  21. That might be a great idea...I know the lady is very resistant to pressure for using it as a shop but if it was for a long established business she might be keener to support them?....
  22. Hi Canela, what time is pioneers please?
  23. We bought ours home on the bus in a slng.....a couple of people gave us 50p for good luck! X
  24. Admittedly my partner usually gets the clippers out twice a year to sort out the boys' hair, but with him away Grandad decided to treat the eldest to a 'proper' cut. After recommendations from here, they went along to GK barbers and they both came back raving....a lovely bloke, exactly the cut my son was after and a walk-in on a Sunday afternoon - cost ?8. Just wanted to share!
  25. Think it is probably very important for Bloomers (a great lingerie shop) not to be confused for a shop (La Avril) that such rumours are circulating about. I for one was beginning to wonder if it was closed, not great for business. Think that is why new wave is making the point.
