  1. You need to fill a form in at the school ASAP (today!) and check their criteria for admission...some schools do it by birthdate and others by when you applied (in which case you are probably pretty low down the list as you can apply from aged two). You will only be offered a morning or afternoon slot...if you want all day you will need to go private...again you need to get on lists very quickly....the open days and date deadlines are for kids entering reception but well worth visiting at these times. You can apply to as many school nurseries as you like. Worth checking out Amott road nurseries too as your son could start now and it isn't very expensive (see Facebook)....they do mornings only.. Good luck!
  2. Thanks for adding the link, voted.
  3. Please make sure he lets us know where he's selling the trees if the location changes! And happy retirement to the other two!
  4. Very selfish but yes that is one Christmas tradition I will really miss....loved choosing my tree with them each year and getting it delivered later in the day....it was the start of Christmas x.....
  5. Lewisham admissions pack much more useful than the Southwark one...anyone know how to find out the furthest distances offered for Southwark secondaries including within each band...hard to be realistic with choices when the information is not given to make that decision! The Lewisham pack is much ,ore transparent giving you figures, broken down in bands. As a result I can see which ones it is not worth looking at and those that are a possibility.. Renata and James if you are reading this can you suggest it to the powers that be....their rejection letters are also much more transparent making the process seem fair even if it is not the news you want.
  6. Amott Road nursery on Adys Rd (near you) is a great introduction to nursery, is cheap and only does mornings. They have a Facebook page for details and take children from 2 and half, so worth putting their name down now and asking about him starting when he reaches that age? The reason it is cheaper than others is because it is parent run (minimal input), therefore a charity not run for profit. The nursery manager and workers are professionals though. I have had two children go there until they started school nursery and they both still talk about it with affection. It is based in the church (not to be confused with little jungle on the same rd). You can call in to look around any morning, around 10 am is probably the best time. Hope this helps in your search.
  7. I am pretty sure the council have a mediation service to help work through these types of issues....phone and ask the environmental health people anti social unit about it.
  8. Can second these recommendations for Andy - he's a 'can do' guy who recently transformed my boys bedroom, including sourcing various materials (blinds, curtain rails etc) and changing the glass in an internal window. He is reliable, trustworthy and all costs were straightforward, clear and transparent.
  9. A bit vague on this but my understanding is that latest lawas mean that anyone who has suspicions of neglect/abuse now have a legal obligation to report it.....so it's no longer a matter of 'should I shouldn't I' but you are now legally obliged to act. I am no professional so may have understood this out of context...
  10. Just to say if you have a baby/toddler (I think it's under three) who doesn't pay it is worth thinking g about getting an adult annual pass...that way you can go as many times as you want. I did it for the first few yrs of my kids (asked for it as a present for the kid from relatives) was a great place for calm breastfeeding while watching the fish...getting out of the heat in the summer, and letting the toddlers explore....Think it was just over 40 pou ds when I did it...
  11. Really useful to have these listed, Thank you.
  12. Salvation Army or the asylum centre at top of Barry Rd...
  13. Think Salvation Army are always grateful too.
  14. Asylum hostel at the top of Barry road...a whole thread somewhere..
  15. There was a sign that looked like it had fallen off and been stuck on the dry cleaners next door....
  16. This dog is often left barking and I lodged it with the noise people at the council a few days back, barking from 8am until 1pm when I had to go out. Suggest anyone who hears him does the same so that they can investigate. I could only guess that the noise was coming from somewhere in Dudrich Mews so giving them a more exact location would be very useful.
  17. It may be worth just turning up as they do drop-in days - my son has done it in the past and really enjoyed it...would be very surprised if it had been cancelled?!
  18. Don't have to wear branded.
  19. Fantastic....now for the planning! X
  20. I mean the pirate ship park with the sand bit in Kensington...last time I was there they said they would have it on in the middle of summer....is that now?!
  21. Report it to the council now, then you've got a chance of getting it sorted if it just keeps going...you don't want to be still umming and ahhing at 1am, work not done and no sleep.
  22. The problem with one off 'parties' is that in a dense population this can lead to a lot of disturbances. We are now on our fifth weekend of different neighbours waking us up between 2 and 6.30 am with music, parties, late talking in the garden, oh and karaoke on returning from the pub is a particular favourite. I think midnight should be the cut-off or go to a club/bar, there's hardly a shortage of them. I'm even beginning to think parking ticket type fines should be handed out...waking up with a hangover and a ?100 fine might not seem so 'cool'.....oh and call me bitter but maybe the fine should arrive around 8am just when they are beginning their morning snooze off the night before...but I'm getting carried away!
  23. That's my suspicion of why the waiting lists are changing so much.....many people moving to the area are more affluent so when they don't get into a school they want then they can afford to rent nearer, briefly. Can't blame them, but makes the system very unfair...it's why I like lottery admissions...even playing field...you either get in or don't....wonder what happens with lottery waiting list though?
  24. Thought they recently got planning permission for a nursery and community centre?
