You may come into the catchment area of Fair Lawn primary in Honor Oak, Secondary would possibly be Sydenham Girls in Dartmouth Road or one of the private schools

I drive an automatic car and have to go into drive 2 to maintain a 20mph otherwise in 'normal drive' I am constantly using my brakes. Discussed this recently with local police who stated that this was common with automatic engines. I have recently been approached by the Police Road Watch team to see if I would be interested in doing a speed road watch in Barry Road. (I have done 2 in the past 5 - 10 years). They will give me some dates so if anyone in Barry Road interested in joining me - PM me. It is likely to be at the Etherow Street end.

Cuppa with a Copper 21st October 10 - 11am
Pugwash replied to Pugwash's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
Just to remind folk of this event - if you live/work/have business in the Dulwich Hill area please come and meet members of the SNT Police team -
As an avid reader and user of Dulwich Library it is a facility I could not live without. Listening to friends/family who live outside London where library hours are reduced, book loans limited and fines exorbitant, we are very fortunate. However, if push came to shove I would be more than willing to pay a yearly subscription of up to £50 pa to retain this valuable asset should there be an attempt to close the library due to funding restraints. I am a pensioner but could afford that yearly amount - when you think that even buying a paperback would cost you £8 - £10. Have purchased a number of books from charity shops and have a pile of them on my bedroom floor to return to them. Many years ago we donated brand new books in Polish which my father in law ordered before his death. Dulwich Library reluctantly took them when we informed that there was a large Polish community in the area. Although husband speaks Polish his reading of the language is quite poor.

What sort of fire extinguisher.do we need for a.domestic flat london se22?
Pugwash replied to Naiada's topic in The Lounge
Contact the local fire brigade- they used to visit premises and advise on fire prevention. Different 'fires' use a variety of extinguishers. -

We have had post 3 times this week.

Extension was already built when we purchased house in 1975. Managed to get an appointment with a 'Which Trusted Trader' for next week so he can advise whether I will need a surveyor.

if you have safeguarding concerns, please contact social services. Unfortunately, financial abuse of the elderly is an ongoing problem. In my professional life I investigated a large number of cases where the elderly person lived alone and was befriended by helper/carer/gardener/ church visitor etc. However, this may not be the case in this instance.

The closure of the bus stops are having a knock on effect on local businesses. The café at Christ Church have seen a massive drop in their income over the past couple of weeks as many of their regular customers come by bus. I am involved in running a club for over 55s, many of whom have physical disabilities which affect their walking. Not having the bus stop opposite the library, they struggle to walk from Crystal Palace Road and Upland Roads. Was also advised that not all the No 40 bus drivers allow you to board etc at terminus in Etherow Street.

My friend is an elderly lady and prefers to wash her own hair. She also has mobility problems and is dependant on mini cabs. They took her to the hairdresser and waited whilst she had it cut.. She obviously paid extra to the driver. If she had her hair washed- would have been in the salon a lot longer. They did spray wet her hair.

I have used Adam for many years. I have cut and blow dry for £23. Lowlights twice a year - I think I paid around £45 for this. A friend went to an ED hairdressers and was charged £40 for a trim only with no wash.

Ed has experience of having to care for others (his mother and son) he understands more so than other MPs how NHS and Social Services need funding and to work together. David Cameron had a seriously disabled son but he appeared to lack empathy with others who have family in the same situation. I vaguely remember that when his son died - he thanked the NHS for the care given to the family. Gordon Brown, I believe is another very genuine person - and fully committed to improving lives of families. His daughter died shortly after birth and one of his sons was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. I far rather trust Ed and Lib Dems than I would Reform or Tories. I have known a few MPs of different political persuasions, met with them, been canvassing etc over many years and those who stand out for me are Paddy Ashdown, Susan Kramer, Tessa Jowell, Helen Hayes .

Getting fed up with the continual bus stop closures due to road works. In LL coming from Forest Hill you can only get on the bus at the stop between Friern and Upland Road as next nearest stop is Heber Road. Going up to FH 197, 185, 176 are not able to stop at the library. At least with the 40 you can stay on until it terminates in Etherow Street. It may not seem far for those who do not have mobility problems, but walking down from Upland Road to Barry Road with shopping and using a stick, takes me ages as the pavements are uneven and very narrow between the tree roots. Whereas getting off at Crystal Palace Road stop is slightly better. The bus stop outside the Maths place is closed until 13th October.

The quarterly SNT Police Meetings are advertised on EDF - the one Beansprout mentions, is Dulwich Hill. The team have been short staffed for a number of months as one officer was injured trying to arrest a shoplifter - unfortunately the shoplifter got away but the officer was left with fractures. We regularly see one or two of the police team around the Dulwich Hill area (they were recently in Landells Road) Dulwich Hill SNT are hoping to resume their Cuppa with a Copper sessions but are frequently asked to support colleagues policing the various protest marches. The next Dulwich Hill SNT meeting is scheduled for December (date to be confirmed) The attack on the young woman would come under the Goose Green SNT.

Have some cracks in my kitchen extension which are becoming deeper. Contacted a Which Approved Builder and they advised that I would need s structural inspection first. Gave me a number of the firm they used but despite leaving a message nobody has got back to me. Can anyone recommend a surveyor?

Party wall surveyor recommendation needed
Pugwash replied to schokoschnecke's topic in Request a Tradesperson
We have some worrying cracks in our kitchen extension wall and ceiling and I need to get these checked out. Contacted a Which Trusted Trader (Builders) and was advised that I would need a structural surveyor/ engineer to indicate the cause of cracks before they could come and assess. They gave me a contact number of a firm called IDR Surveyors - left message on number given but yet to have a reply, Anyone used a structural engineer recently? -
From what I have gathered from Bradbury Oak residents I have spoken with, that at a meeting with RNIB earlier in the year, none of the residents were in favour of new build. There is the implication that rent rises are anticipated to help towards building costs. Rent is currently in the region of £300 pw - as with most sheltered housing (council and Housing Association), Since these rents also include maintenance charges, utility charges - Housing Benefit is only applicable to the actual 'rent element' per flat.

At the Dulwich Hill SNT meeting last night we spoke about Met. Engage. Dulwich Hill had signed up 185 households. Scheme had been trialled in other parts of the country successfully and now the Met. Police are rolling it out, To the end of August, the Met Police had gathered 17,000 registrations which equites to 2% of households.
