  1. They used to have a very good bookshop - more academic type books and general books around grief and bereavement. Not sure if that is included in the new CARE building. After my mother died, we continued to go to the hospice as they did a very good Sunday Lunch at a very reasonable price. They also had musicians playing in the centre. The gardens at St Christopher's are beautiful and open to all. If you have never been to the Hospice , what hits you when you enter as the feeling of calmness and peace, in contrast to general hospitals. They also have a programme of events - talks, music, quizzes . Comedian Tom Allen does a lot of fundraising for the hospice. Some years ago, my husband who has been a volunteer for over 15 years, and I went to a cream tea there.
  2. Another bakery staple in days gone by - bread pudding. Place bakers(?) where Harry's is now always used to sell big chunks of this. I think Morrisons also used to sell it in a packet of 2 slices. Are bakeries now just dumping their unsold bread? I make bread pudding regularly - use reduced bread from supermarkets ( loaf cost me 22p) and last time made 3 batches one for us plus two for friends.
  3. Went to thee Viet place in LL some time ago and got charged £9 for a pot of tea Hubby paid bill and did not notice that they had overcharged. Frequently go past the old Moulin restaurant- rarely see people in it. No indication whether they are providing meals as no menu outside (unless they have pit it up in last few days) Got impression that it was a wine bar only. Love Dulwich is usually busy between 12 - 2 pm when they have their lunch time specials not been there in evening or weekends.
  4. I gather St, Christopher's in Penge has closed down as landlord has increased fees, so they are looking for alternative venue. The LL store frequently passes over stock to the other shops as they receive a large number of donations. Having had an uncle and mother who died in St Christopher's, we are firm supporters of the hospice. I believe, but correct me if I am wrong. that 1 million pounds is raised annually from the shops. The Hospice itself has a cafeteria in their Anniversary Centre which is opened daily to the public. Prices are very reasonable. When my mother was in the hospice, family took it in turns to have a hot meal in the café. The Hospice is known world wide for its palliative care work and offers training. When I was working, I attended a few of the courses at the hospice as I was the lead for my team in regards to end of life care.
  5. Reminder that this issue was discussed at the Dulwich Hill SNT several months ago and the police were asking people to contact them. As you say, several months have gone past without any known incidents. Police should once again be notified. Goodrich and Barry Roads come under Dulwich Hill SNT. The next meeting is Weds 10th September 6 pm at Christ Church Barry Road.
  6. The rent of the shop is enormous- the landlord almost doubled it when they had to renew the lease. St. C's had to make a decision as to whether to pay the increased rent or find alternative premises. The refurbishment has greatly improved the shop's layout. Husband now buys most of his stuff from the Lewisham branch as much cheaper and also sell CDs and LPs. The Penge and Sydenham stores have a more limited range but also lower prices.
  7. Jon is rarely seen at various Dulwich Hill events/activities i.e Police SNT meetings. Maggie is generally very reliable but is now on Maternity Leave. I have been informed that in the next 2/3 weeks, the labour Party will be choosing their candidates for the next council elections in 2026. Not being a labour party member I do not know how you would raise objections when existing councillors are not up to the job?
  8. I do not think the Age UK service is available for those who have diabetes. Just checked link - does provide for diabetics but need GP letter. Nearest venue to ED is Bells Garden SE15 - but I have a vague feeling that the council have just closed this community centre.
  9. i thought BHF had stopped doing collections. We had them regularly to collect items after a Give and Take Event but they informed us that since Covid they do not offer this sservice.
  10. The Woodwarde Road clinic has got so expensive - £74 for 10/15 minutes nail cutting, Earlier in the year I paid £68. Does anyone know of a cheaper clinic? Have friends who are on basic pensions and benefits who are finding it hard to finance these costs. NHS funded podiatry is virtually non existence - even if diabetic - you face long waits.
  11. When we have a new cat, for their first outing in the garden, we use a wire cat carrier. Over a period of days we move the carrier to various garden locations so that they can see and smell the area. Having had various cats over the past 50 years, this had proved to be the best solution.
  12. Currently getting post 2/3 times a week.
  13. I reported a scam roofing firm to Southwark Trading Standards - they were very helpful. They also wanted us to check CCTV and video doorbells of local buildings to send to them. Unfortunately both devices did not film beyond their front doors. Trading Standards work closely with the police.
  14. Good luck with this - it is getting harder than ever to do an infant observation, I did mine at a local nursery as I needed to observe a child from 9 months - 3years. Mine was weekly for 3 months, It is surprising what you can observe during that one hour. I continued to use my observational skills throughout my 21 year professional career, After I retired, I returned to University and trained as a Practice Educator and went on to have 5 students and encouraged them not just to listen but to observe their 'clients 'body languages/ environment/ relationships with others. I would urge parents/caregivers to participate - you will be surprised how much more you will understand about your child and their development,
  15. Regardless of who 'owns' the bin- the organisation regularly comes to empty it and clear up the area. They were there today (Weds)
  16. As both my husband and I did not have siblings, family is important to us- as it happens we have 3 daughters. Grandchildren (8) from 9 - 30 plus great grandchildren 3 and 6. We consider ourselves lucky to have good relationships with all.
  17. Re previous post. . Our youngest grandchildren only come up to London around 4 times a year and usually stay overnight. This holiday was different as their father in Liverpool had just changed jobs and had difficulties in getting time off for the 2 weeks he normally has the children for in the summer holidays so everything was up the wall. Daughter had booked a few days away (she had not had a holiday for 3 years) and we were the backup if all had failed with Dad. As it happened, he could not get much time off, but his new partner looked after the children most of the time. We had the children for a few nights to support our daughter. We normally travel to Sussex to meet up with everyone (either by train or car) Whilst we have our own health issues (physical) for our emotional health it is important that we play a significant part in our grandchildren's life, Our eldest grandson (30) is very close to his grandfather who supported him emotionally and practically since he was a teenager. Grandson is now has a 6 year old son, named after his grandfather, and credits his paternal/fathering skills etc to us grandparents.
  18. Landlord would have to get a High Court writ before bailiffs can come. Hope you get some good legal support. WE also have enjoyed your restaurant.
  19. Last time I had an Xray several years ago, my GP gave me a form and I had to make an appointment with Kings on line.
  20. The one at the Plough is not for rags officially but the stuff that people leave is variable.
  21. The following was sent to me via SNT Dulwich Hill. Anti Social Behaviour Concern Update I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Dulwich Hill Safer Neighbourhoods Team have been on patrol around the ward engaging with residents. We have received reports of youths around the ward causing concern by knocking on the doors of residential properties and behaving in an intimidating manner. This has been either by standing in silence and staring or with the pretence of door step selling. We would like to take this opportunity to reinforce crime prevention advice. Please ensure you establish the identity of people knocking on your door before opening, this can be done by looking out the window or calling out before opening the door. The use of door chains or spyholes should be used when available. Antisocial behaviour can come in many forms and can require support from more organisations than just the police. There are 13 different types of antisocial behaviour that we may be able to help with, including abandoned vehicles, littering or drugs paraphernalia and street drinking. A full list of what we categorise as antisocial behaviour is available on our website. If you have witnessed or experienced antisocial behaviour, you can report it online. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org. As you have not contributed to the priority survey recently, we may be unaware of issues that you would like us to focus on. Please take a few minutes to securely and privately have your say using the button below, this will mean we can focus on things that matter to you. Please click here to complete the survey We are working on our brand-new strategy for how we police London and we want your help. Our New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will guide how we deliver on behalf of Londoners over the next three years, and we want to make sure you have had the chance to have your say. The consultation paper is available online, as well as a survey to let us know what you think. This closes on the 15 September. 22. Do any of them have automatic cars?
  23. Years since we have been to St. Katherine's Dock. Used to take our now 39 year old and now 52 year old daughters when they were young.
  24. Good place for housing.
  25. Cold meze is great and so is grilled halloumi. I always have the fish - hubby had the chicken on first visit, but fish on the second visit. Does anyone know if they have children's menu or would do a small plate for under 12s?
