Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
Pugwash replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The whole reason for closing Silvester Road was the volume of parcels etc. Why not use this as a base for postmen to sort out into roads/rounds rather than a van or pavement. -
There are no plans as yet on the Southwark website from my discussion with the planning officer when organising the event, they are seeking views from residents before a 'final plan' is submitted.

How do you manage cleaning of the family home?
Pugwash replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I do the vast majority of cleaning in our house but due to arthritis and associated mobility problems find it difficult to clean/wash skirting boards etc. I would love a cleaner to do this on a fortnightly basis (the house is large Victorian building with loads of wood) but not clear as to whether a cleaner would be prepared to do this. -
Southwark Council propose to build new homes on the site of the garages between 76 and 82 Henslowe Road. These will be council homes let at a social rent with 50% being available to local residents in housing need. Southwark are holding a drop in session to discuss and present design proposals - giving local residents a chance to meet with council officers and architects. The event will be held on Monday 22nd October between 6.30 and 9 pm in the small hall at the East Dulwich Community Centre, 46-50 Darrell Road. SE22 9NL (next to Dulwich Medical Centre).

TfL plan to reroute Bus 40 away from London Bridge
Pugwash replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
keep the 40 route as it is. As I have mobility problems I find it difficult to get on the train at ED as gap between platform and train is too great so rely on 40 bus to get to London Bridge. -
Extension to ultra-low emission zone to north/south circulars
Pugwash replied to edanna's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A friend who had a diesel camper van decided to sell recently as was worried that if he waited he would not get a decent price for it. Being pensioners it was their only 'extravagance' and used to have motoring holidays around UK. -
Consultation re speed reducation proposals in Barry Rd.
Pugwash replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I attended the meeting and spoke with one of the planners. He is coming to the BARA Committee Meeting next week and seemed keen on the idea proposed by BARA that a further public meeting was necessary in view of the poor communication received by residents. Will keep you posted. The councillors present advised that the CPZ proposals are going to be a separate consultation. -
There is a drop in session today 5.30 - 7.30 pm at Dulwich Library to meet planners/architects etc. Only found out this afternoon as a letter was sent to Christ Church Barry Road re this. I have not met anyone who has received this letter in Barry Road. Essential that those concerned try and get to this session

Forest Hill Rd. Surgery - Southwark CCG Response
Pugwash replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We were in The Gardens Surgery catchment area when we registered with them many years ago. We are now outside it - only difference is that we cannot expect house calls. -
One cat will regularly chase and play with mice- the other 2 ignore them. We had a rat problem last year due to nearby building works - all the cats just looked at the rat.

Barry Road -- healthy streets consultation
Pugwash replied to Sally Eva's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The BARA Committee and I will be meeting the planners behind the latest proposals to reduce Traffic Speed in Barry Road. Having now done 2 Road Watches in the past 3 weeks I can confirm that drivers are regularly driving in excess of 25 mph. With the problems with postal deliveries in the area, I have met only one person who has received a letter re consultation (they live about 10 doors away from me). We hope at the meeting to persuade the planners to hold a public consultation and extend the consultation date to enable people who are not on line. Will post more details when we have them. from what I have seen on line, there will be much reduced parking in Barry Road which will have implications for the side streets. It is not clear as to whether the CPZ consultation is also connected with the Speed Reduction scheme. -
Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
Pugwash replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Post received today in Barry Road, a letter which I was informed would be on the way a couple of days ago, arrived but not the letter sent over 2 weeks ago giving details of a person I need to visit next week, nor a 'password' information letter which I should have received 3 weeks ago. Fortunately the password is related to my professional registration details and I was able to sort this out on line fairly quickly. -
Re speeding in Barry Road. Just a reminder that the Barry Area Residents 'Association (BARA) will be holding another Road Watch on Weds 26th September 6 - 8 pm. Meet outside Barry House/Christ Church at 6 pm. In discussion with the Police Road Watch team, we are likely to be operating between Goodrich and Lordship lane. If you cannot make 6 pm look out for us wearing the high vis jackets and join us.

Accept help offered after baby born. I remember how grateful I was to my mum taking care of our daughter so that I could catch up with sleep. I have tried to do the same with my daughters - fortunately one was fairly local, use to bring the baby to me then have a kip in my bed. The other daughter is in Sussex so could not do as much

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Pugwash replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would be against controlled parking as from experience in Lambeth that it creates more parking nightmares especially if they zone areas i.e. Ondine, Adys and Marsden Road may be zone L, but adjoining roads could be zone T so residents who are used to having a 'choice' of roads to park in a fighting for limited spaces. -
I have not read all the posts but have to say that women wearing burka's I have no problem with, but as someone who is deaf and lip reads I find any covering of the mouth difficult for me to communicate. This includes those gentlemen who have facial hair covering their lips, people who look down at their feet when talking, those who mutter and talk to you from an angle. I am sure that many members of the deaf community who do not sign feel the same way. Having several Muslim friends both male and female, who do not agree with the burka, I am aware that certain sections of Islam choose to wear only the hijab

Thanks for all the advice, will be ordering the Amazon Kit.

I hear that the Upland Road Team were clocking vehiclesm30 - 40 mph, we on the Etherow street end were getting mainly 26 - 30 mph with the theory that motorists were aware of approaching lights so slowed down slightly. We noticed that more cars appeared to be speeding from the LL end towards the Rye - we will be doing this section next in September. It appears, via discussions with various police officers, that the use of extended pavements along Barry have possibly increased the number of crashes as people have to pull out quite a way on the side roads to check for oncoming traffic.

After many years, we are decorating our bedroom. The carpet is gradually being taken up as we have had carpet moths infestation. Need to get room (including built in wardrobes) sprayed before redecorating and getting a new carpet. Undecided as to whether to get spray/treatment via Amazon for around ?30 or whether to get a firm in. Has anyone got advice as to either products to use, ease of use or reliable firms. We have cats so do not want to affect them with chemicals.

Next speed watch will be mid to late September around 6 pm. I do not think the Road Watch Teams come on duty at 6 am - they seem to work from 8 am onwards. We had 2 teams - one at Upland/Barry and the other at Barry/Etherow. Considerable number going over 25 mph .

Declaration of Trust - we did this years ago as a relative put down 70% of cost, the 3 of us got a mortgage, myself and then partner were fully responsible for mortgage costs and 50% of council tax, water rates etc. When then partner and I split up - new Declaration of Trust making me fully responsible for mortgage etc. Worked very well
