How is her hearing?. Eldest grandson, now almost 18 did not speak until almost three and was then diagnosed with speech delay. Unlike all the other grandchildren, he did not 'babble' as a baby being almost silent.Babble is seen as the beginnings of the formation of words and speech should naturally follow. His mother was advised that she should speak to him and encourage him through reading books together to say words, singing nursery rhymes. By the time he was 5 he had near normal speech and language. Hubby is bilingual, and did not speak until 2 years old, and when he did spoke in sentences and in Polish. This was followed by English ( his main language). Medics came to the conclusion that as an only child, his parents anticipated his every need and he was too lazy to speak but was absorbing and understanding the Polish his father spoke to friends and on the phone, with his mother's english.

I hope when they finish their 'cleansing' that there is a link to the hospital records. Working at Kings and Lewisham Hospitals. we frequently have patient's GPs listed on their records and at least half of them show the wrong practice. Either the patient has moved and still using a GP outside the normal catchment area ( ie. move from Lambeth to Southwark and still showing a lambeth GP miles away from their new address) or surgeries have closed/merged etc. A real nightmare when trying to link up a district nurse referral.Hospital staff do not routinely check up that the correct GP surgery is listed on the notes

Gumboots After School Club based at Goodrich and the ED Community Centre - always have a 4 week summer holiday play scheme. This runs the whole of august at the ED CCentre site. Not sure what they are charging this year - Dave Small is the Play Leader.

I had my kids 13 years apart. after my first child a friend became pregnant and I gave her all my non gender specific baby clothes, cot and pram blankets etc. She used them for her 2 boys and passed them back to me 13 years later. Young children quickly grow out of clothes in a matter on months, recycle amongst friends, especially if they have children either older or younger than yours. Buy special offers i.e. 3 for price of 2 and stock up freezer. When catering for a large group ( family gathering) work our what you could do with left overs. Unused cooked veg and meat could be turned into soup, cheese can be frozen, bread - bread and butter pudding or bread pudding, add chopped tomatoes and cheese to left over mashed potato to get a light lunch. Ignore sell/use by dates - using common sense most things can be eaten a couple of days later.

If you are visiting patients in the community check with Kings as to how your can apply for a 'medical' parking badge. I work at Kings and other hospitals, and also in the community but my employers pay for an all southwark resident parking permit. Some of my colleagues have a 'medical permit'for Southwark. When I worked for Lambeth in the same type of work, they refused to pay for permits and parking fines. We had to rely on public transport which made doing home visits, usually taking about an hour, plus anything upto 1.5 hours travelling time by bus and we would get moaned at for being out of the office for almost half a day. Had we been able to use our cars, live would have been easier.

Having had several rehomed cats we find that keeping them confined to one room initially, then open up more rooms in the house, letting them explore and get to know their humans and other cats in the house. We have various methods of introducing them to the garden, including a harness and lead, letting them explore one section of the garden at a time with us there. Meeting the other house cats in the garden. Our last 'new cat' was very nervous and it took her around 3 months to venture out in the garden where she promptly ran next door and hid behind neighbours shed. She did this for a couple of weeks then gradually strolled through the garden. She has a problem with her voice and cannot mew so a collar with a bell was essential (as was a microchip). All our cats respond rapidly to the sound of a tin being open with a tin opener, so we stand in the garden and open a can of tuna - the buggers can hear this yards away - beats calling out each time.

have you tried your funeral director? When my Mum died the FD asked whether we wanted to bring our own CDs or have them provide the music as they had a large collection of CDs to play at the chapel. We decided on 3 pieces of music by my mum's favourite singers and provided the Cds ourselves ( Bridge over troubled water Simon & Garfunkel, Bring him home from Les Mis Michael Ball and Time to say Good Bye -Russell Watson and Hailey Wesmera)

We left 306 LL Medical centre some years ago as we were not impressed by Dr.Dewji who seemed very ineffcient after his senior partner (Dr. During) died. My family and I had been at the practice when it was in Townley Road since the NHS started, but could not stand the terrible locum doctors Dewji employed. We transferred to The Gardens but it took us 2 years as their lists were constantly full. I did hear from friends that there is a very good female doctor now at 306 - as a junior partner.

Our youngest grandson who was 15 months old came to my Mum's funeral, our daughter sat at the end of the pew and when he got a bit grumpy - took him outside.I left it up to my other daughter to decide whether she wanted her 7 year old and 12 year old to attend. The 7 year decided he would rather go to school as it was football club after school and did not want to miss it! Would never say a child was not welcomed at a funeral or wedding and would always leave it up to the parents to decide what was best for their kids.

When we had babysitters, if we had a car I would run them home. When we did not have a car, hubby would walk with our young babysitter to her home in Dunstans Road from our place in Barry Road. When our daughter did babysitting, she was told to ask the parents to escort her home or drive her from Heber Road to Barry. One night both parents wer too drunk to see her home, so she rang me and then informed the parents she would not sit for them again as they were not interested in her safety.

I was faxing at work when a very vivid flash of lighting appeared to bounce off the car park outside the office with an immediate very loud clap of thunder. 2 of the admin girls screamed and one ran to the otherside of the room to hid under a chair. The 'bang' was so loud that they thought there had been an explosion in the building. (Baring in mind we were a couple of hundred yards away from the camberwell explosion a couple of weeks ago) Went back into our main office which is a single storey extension, when the second clap of thunder arrived after another vivid flash and you could feel the vibrations/shaking as though the roof was going to fall it.

I will try and remember to get off work early to get to it. Having been a carer of elderly relatives for at least half of my life and as a professional worker dealing with mainly older people - I feel I can contribute quite a bit. Also getting over the hill myself!

Do you have a health visitor ( do they still exist) she (he) may be able to point you in some direction which can offer suggestions. Some time ago before the massive cuts, a family aide could be provided by social services in some situations. Highly unlikely now.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Upto a few years ago we had rescued greyhounds. Docile and good with children, when out in the park or street they would lung at cats and sometimes other dogs. For this reason we always had them muzzled as a precaution. people asked if they were dangerous animals, they were not but we would rather be safe than sorry just in case they injured another animal. If 'Blue's' owner was sorry - I suggest he fork out the ?300 vets fees.

The Dulwich Milan meets at the East Dulwich Community Centre. This was set up by a Muslim lady ( who is currently in Pakistan looking after her sick father) and although has many Muslims, likes to welcome all religions. Open to all ages and gender. Will recommence meetings when Bina returns from abroad. The East Dulwich Community Centre holds many Muslim socials - they tend to be around Eid and other religious days Many members of the centre management committee are also Muslims

Not spooked at all - hubby rang me up at work to tell me about it. I was yelling down the phone - what have they taken, how much damage, 10 coppers, a police dog and a helicopter!!!! - were the police armed?. My colleagues were gathered around and told me to go home an hour and half early. Seems the guy has been charged with burglary, he had about 4/5 bottles of vodka. Hubby was not frightened and just amazed that the bloke just looked at him and went to wash his hands in the kitchen sink. Our builder came around tonight and quickly assessed the damage and will give a quote for repairs. It exposed what were weak links in our security ( something that my hubby has always said was my imagination) and I have now been proved right. Hubby very cool and calm about things and acted appropriately according to the police.

Break in - they arrested a man in my house who had broken in through 2 lots of doors and calmly walked into the kitchen where my husband was. He had broken in to hid from the police who were searching in the street. Police and SOCOs very good - lots of fingerprints everywhere
