Moths balls do NOT constitute finger food
Moos replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Fi, thanks for letting us know. Really useful re: the not drinking - does this apply to all potentially poisonous substances? Very good news that O is perfectly well. (Having complicated reaction to your post - half of me in heart-squeezing horror for how frightened you must have been and the other half laughing about your naughty monkey chatting up the paramedics while you checked James Herriott.) I do think you may have the trophy here, but my friend's son was found aged about one sucking happily on the kitchen mop. Euwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. But no ill effects. My son at about one liked to lick pretty much everything he could get hold of, including pavements when not closely watched. -
Mangoes are delicious, but best eaten in the bath. Papayas beat them hands-down of course.

Oh, what a relief. So glad to hear you are OK and the baby is OK. Hope you can take a little time to be wobbly and look after yourself today, before you have to go back on duty. Everyone rooting for you here!

Ooh-er. It's better than a soap!

Good luck, Fuschia.

So it's not that simple.

I wouldn't have chosen the word creepy but I do remember finding the idea of breastfeeding a baby myself very peculiar while I was pregnant and thinking about doing it (how easy I thought it would be, ha!). The concept of another person drinking from your body is the most natural thing in the world, but before I'd done it I found it really hard to imagine. Loved it once I finally got the hang of it - my favourite feed was always the pre-bedtime feed. With supper, bath and playing done, we would flop down in a chair together and I would just go Ahhhhhhh and relaaaaaax. Very snuggly and close, heaven. Back on topic, I had a friend who while pregnant couldn't get the Alien movies out of her mind... Getting used to the idea that another creature is living inside her and feeling it moving about kind of freaked her out, and it does take a bit of getting used to! Obviously not everyone feels this way (maybe my friend and I are just warped...) and in cultures where women lead more domestic and family-centred lives it's probably unheard of. But there you are.

I don't think anyone in the family room thread was saying that she wasn't entitled to choose whether to breast-feed or formula feed. I've seen plenty of both breast-feeding and formula-feeding posters in there, for those who might infer that ED or the family room is a hotbed of breast-feeding evangelists.. There is a definitely a different feel to the family room - it's a bit less jokey than the Lounge, much gentler and I think quite a community-creating feel. The flip side is that people tend to be more sensitive to differing opinions, often because the topics under discussion are very emotive and personal to the posters.

Of course where the gun analogy falls down is that a gun's sole purpose is to shoot bullets, it is solely a weapon. A dog can be used as a weapon, but also has a 'function' as a pet or companion. The argument is interesting but too black and white.

Baby banz do ones that have a band instead of arms that goes around kids' faces. Worked on our one year old - aged 3 he has now progressed to Toy Story sunglasses and thinks he is incredibly cool. We have an old pair of baby banz you could borrow to see whether you like it?

A longshot...are there any HBAC Mums out there?
Moos replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
After I had Moosling in a planned hospital birth but an unplanned c-section, I was very clearly told a homebirth for any future pregnancies was not supported, as they recommend continuous monitoring of the baby during labour. Something to do with any distress of the baby being a good forewarning of the scar tearing - eek. -
rolled-up trousers, birds on the shoulder and tricorne hats - this place is a hotbed of piratical activity! *swashes buckle*

Thanks!

Thanks Molly - whereabouts in Burgess Park is the part you're talking about? Sounds lovely.
-
Sorry, I didn't see, but he did have the tricorne on, which I thought showed a fine disregard for weather-oriented dressing.

Much better playground than anything I've found in ED, and the paddling pool is top. Besides, sometimes you get to meet the Quidses there.

getting your boobs back to normal - how long does it take?

ryedalema Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Please don't chastise me for stopping - it's not an easy decision ;-( This might not need saying since (as I hope you should be able to expect on this board) you've had a supportive response to your post, but I just wanted to respond to the sadness and perhaps a little guilt that this sentence suggests. I hope no-one in their right mind would criticize you for stopping bf'ing after 6 months - that's a fantastic start for your lo and many mothers don't manage to do so well in spite of trying. Lots of mums on here are still bf'ing older babies and toddlers and that's brilliant, but lots aren't, and that's OK too. I think we all know how difficult the decision is when you have to stop, and how sad it can make you feel, so thoughts with you. -
Happy holidays, Barry! Clock was working this morning so hurray for that.

Settling in at nursery - advice needed!
Moos replied to charlottep's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We're just about to start nursery with our little son (so no advice on what works yet!) but was interested to see that the staff looked at him seeming quite confident and outgoing and immediately suggested cutting the settling-in period in half. We pushed back, and agreed a compromise. Suggest you contact them with your concerns and ask for a longer period. Do they charge for the settling in period?
