  1. I've seen plenty of buggies in le Chandelier. I think that's just a rumour.

    Mice

specialised hearing like this? Or more probably like this
  3. Mine was well over a year, but he was one of those baldy hulking babies that people look at and say 'Oh isn't he [frantic pause for adjective] - what a sweet smile'. :)

    Mice

You'll wake up one morning to find them leafing through your Proust, and nodding sagely. Clearly there's a secret sign outside your house in mouse that reads 'Smart guy lives here, can spell. No thickies to apply. Crap cereal, though.'

    Mice

They're not that smart. Our dim domestic mogs (brains 75% the size of their wild cousins) who can barely string a miaouw together keep our house remarkably rodent-free. The only rare sightings we get are of decapitated mice and the occasional wild scramble around the kitchen in front of a chuckling cat. The scrambles don't last long. (Did I even spell miaow correctly? How many vowels can you fit into a one-syllable word?)

    Rant!!

I agree wholeheartedly. I also find it a bit odd that people look at me sideways when I pick up rubbish lying around and stick it in the bin.

Doesn't that imply though that the reduction of smoking over the last 30 years has been solely due to smokers dying and a reduction in uptake from new smokers? These 2 must be a factor but it seems reasonable that a lot of smokers have kicked the habit, either for financial or health reasons.
  8. I love the fact that a (gasp!) non-beautiful woman heads up a series about stylish women, and even more the fact that even though they're all (gasp! gasp!!) over 40 they are still on the big screen. Film does look like a load of tosh, of course.
  9. Nice pic, sophiesofa! I think a lot of us have a soft spot for the heron.
  10. Ruskin Park is filled now, was full of joyful kids yesterday.
  11. *hic!* how daaare you. It takes work to stay this intoxicated, I tell you, real work.
  12. Quite right, MickMac, I personally make it a point never to post sober.
  13. No, not just you PGC. Am personally relying on still being slightly faster and much heavier than my son. If you see a large woman hanging from the ankles of a determined blond monkey halfway up the tower, that will be us.
  14. What's crusty mean? I thought it meant old and cranky*, but that doesn't make sense in this context. *other than when you're talking about bread, I mean.
  15. It does look fantastic, so I'm sure we'll all be thrilled with it when it does open. Had a nosey round today, and it doesn't look anywhere near finished, I'd guess we have a few weeks to go. Was quite relieved that the non-functioning slightly weird-looking bull and pelican twinset has been taken away but my son was rather upset!
  16. Someone more experienced than me will probably offer some good advice soon, but in the meanwhile, I'll just say that my son when a baby used to regularly choke on his food, and make the most revolting gagging noises, which never meant anything serious was happening - he was just getting used to solid food in his gullet. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't keep a careful eye on him, but they do eat very noisily which can cause anxiety, but it's normal.
  17. Playground is looking better and better. Does anyone know when the renewed part is now due to open?
  18. I can understand to your mother's reluctance to deal with possible dementia. I believe many people in their 50s-70s have their own parents' diminishment and demise very clear and sharp in their memories, and are terrified of 'losing their minds', and perhaps equally terrified of their partners becoming ill and dependent. Sorry for this difficult time you must be going through.
  19. Definitely agree with the comments on doing the training in warmer weather, preferably when they can buzz around the house with nothing on. I think potty training (assuming your child is ready) is mostly to do with training yourself 1) not to mind when you go through 20 pairs of pants in a day and 2) to know when your child needs to pee or poo, and anticipate their needs. You need to be in the right mindset - patient, watchful, anticipatory and did I say patient? Lots and lots of praise for pees and poos in the right place (stickers worked well as rewards for us too) and no comment or problem with puddles.
  20. sorry, that wasn't very helpful of me. He'll be 3 next week.
  21. We converted our son's cot into a cot bed recently - was dreading the constant popping-out of bed that we thought would follow, but so far, not once! I'm sure it will come one day but he adjusted very well and still seems to expect us to come and get him when he's not happy.
  22. Wow, that's so nice of you sliding doors.
  23. Do you happen to be missing any of the joints in your spine?

What was holding them up was the plaster of our bedroom ceiling below... Luckily we found this out quite quickly and got them removed!
