I lost count of the number of times Private Eye reported incidents of political pressure placed upon the FSA to sweep stuff under the carpet during those heady days. This is our old friends Blair and Brown again isn't it. I couldn't give a toss about Bob Diamond frankly but Jeremy's right that he's been scapegoated. Heads should roll but I've a suspicion that most of them will have moved elsewhere by now anyway, many to totally different jurisdicions anyway. Just another case of banker bashing in a slow news week, clearly not enough massacres in Syria going on. In terms of bad business practices there are far more pressing concerns such as the exploitation of immigrant workers, supermarket's bullying produce suppliers etc etc etc that noone raises an eyebrow over as those price manipulations help to keep our costs down and keep us happy like any other amoral derivatives trader. Let he who is without sin etc..... *i'm not advocating these practices either, and if there are criminal charges to be answered (and I suspect there could well be) I'll be as happy to see those doors a slamming as anyone else, just saying storm in a teacup is all*

I think it's a bit late for that now unfortuantely as the walls are going up. It was originally for La Piba's mum's old aga we were getting reconditioned, but the cost of running those things is astronomical, plus we've carefully worked out all our heat sources for the houses requirements. I think we could put in work surfaces at either side of the recess or something, so you could be on to something. In reality what I'll do is spend 6 months beating myself up about it and finally spending ludicrous sums on the cooker in question else I'll spend the next 15 years walking past the inferior cooker and tutting at myself.

Being concerned how you come across involves an exercise in empathy, something I'm not sure our mutual friend bothers with. Either because he's not interested or because he's incapable. It's not impossible he's somewhat aspergic and hence may struggle with the concept; he could be a psycopath and explaining this would be like trying to explain it to a shark, or he may so so wrapped in himself that he lacks self-awareness and it wouldn't occur to him to empathise even though he's capable. This could come from some childhood trauma and be Narcissistic Personality Disorder or it could be because he's a spoilt brat who was always told he was the best and it never occured to him, as he moved to adulthood, to doubt it. This is technically speaking called 'being a tit'.

I've discovered these original music series of lots of struff, usually under a tenner per 3-5 album collection. I know I'm usually late to the party (by almost 50 years here) but there's some great stuff there. Also indulged myself with The Sisters of Mercy, though two of the albums are compilations, which kind of detracts from the purpose of a 5 album collection, but considering they only did 3 I can see where they're going with it. Next stop Simply Red and The Corrs Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.

It still wasn't a tight game. Italy were thoroughly defeated by the time they lost Motta. For someone who bleats on about what deep insights from a stellar playing career you need to perform pre match analysis of note, you didn't half come out with hackneyed pundit cliches did you, all you left out was 'at the end of the day'!

I loved Del Bosque's dig at, well pretty much everyone, but England particularly should take note. "They know how to play together because they come from a country where they learn to play properly. This is a great era for Spanish football." btw Del Bosque has often had pretty savage treatment at the hands of the press in Spain, so this is a great vindication for him too. The sporting press in Spain are every bit as inconsistent, vindictive and idiotic as our own dear one.

Should add Johnson to quids list of good performances. Despite being ex faithful I've generally been unimpressed with him in an England shirt but thought him superb last night. Will echo sentiments that right team won but England did themselves proud, but seriously, are we ever going to prepare for penalties? They do somewhat loom large in the England narrative. Young defeated before he was within 20ft of that ball and who the hell stepped up? I can't stand Cole as a rule, but the real question was why better strikers of the ball weren't there instead.
