  1. Hi All Further update, as I am updating this thread, the fabulous Mc Govern guys are building and installing the raised beds on site. :)-D Nice one lads, Project manager Heather has made them Bacon sarnies (with Brown sauce???) To set them up. Its great when a plan comes together. Thank you Barry and your amazing team at Mc Govern Carpentry and Design
  2. Mmmm what a lovely day, spring is in the air, at last. And hopefully lots of seeds and plants suitable for a physic garden, are being saved by the community of East Dulwich and Village. As always guys watch this space. Community action rocks :)-D http://snubdulwich.org.uk/#
  3. Hi The original SNUB bags from 2008 are still around, and I still see quite a few. However we have applied for funding through CGS, for more SNUB bags, if we are successful, the bags will be made from strong cotton and not hessian. I am going to take the idea from the Green up Peckham cloth bag. Apologies for the lack of originality, however I have one of the Peckham bags, and I feel its a lot stronger. The original Hessian SNUB bag, is still going strong however, and with the ongoing requests for an Updated ED cloth bag. We at SNUB would like to distribute the free bags to ED residents and Dulwich residents, dependent on the success of the funding, if we get it from each ward. We were asked if ED traders would donate, however because we are such a great community, we are hoping CGS can fund the scheme again. :) Apologies for the blatant plug, however SNUBs projects are successful, because we do have a great community. who are passionate about sustainable, greener, cleaner and safer living. If you have any questions re the SNUB bags or anything else SNUB are doing ie The Recycle a Bike project, with the local teenagers and police please do not hesitate to ask. The Dulwich community garden project, has its very own thread, and I try to update it as and when possible. Thanks James for letting me hijack your thread so blatantly :)-D http://snubdulwich.org.uk/# Edited because I am tired and cant see after 10pm :)
  4. Not sure whats going on with James re the roundabout, I have asked him the same question, re the roundabout being under a protection order from years ago, however he seems more bothered about ripping apart my SNUB applications, for CGS. These guys http://london.groundwork.org.uk/ who provided cash and in kind support for the Dulwich community garden, might be able to help with the roundabout.
  5. Heather has just confirmed, she has secured 100 bags of top soil for the garden. Nice one Heather. yay :)-D
  6. Hi James Thanks for this, however it was up to Dagmar, to take forward the information, we had provided. Im a little confused with your answers re the Bike project in all honesty. We have had ongoing support from the council, park and police, who have shown nothing but enthusiasm for the project. Because of the ongoing situation with the police station, the bikes project would be run at Peckham Rye park. Stewart Vanns, SNUBs bike project manager, has an ongoing professional relationship with Mark Newham and Roger Stocker. Again they both showed enthusiasm for the project. This was clear on the additional information we provided, when we were asked. "Why did it not reach the councillors" who allocate the funds??? As for the bags application, did you read the application? May I suggest you actually read the application again, if you have already done so. I know this may be taking up your precious time. But hey call me old fashioned, that's what councillors do. They represent the public to the council. And you still have not answered my question about the roundabout being under a protective order of sorts, from my two previous posts. Do I have to find out myself? Can anyone who is interested in keeping the roundabout as it is, find out if the National trust have an involvement, or protection order on the aforementioned roundabout. Thanks
  7. Thanks Fuchsia, and Sue. Just logged in. I think Heather is on the case. Well spotted. I do like it when a plan comes together, and the community work together yay :)-D
  8. Hi James Thanks for the reply. SNUB have already spoke to Dagmar re the Bikes project, and have given her all the additional information needed. As far as the bag project is concerned, we applied for CGS, for the same reason we did originally. To increase the green credentials of East Dulwich. I believe the 2008 bag scheme help to reduce the use of plastic bags in the community. However local supermarkets are still giving out just as many bags, and now they are doubling up on bags, because the supermarket bags are degradable, and shoppers on a whole do not feel confident in putting heavy goods in the supermarket bags. I feel the Supermarkets and some small stores are not helping with the reduction. Smaller Stores and supermarkets now sell their own reusable cloth bags, however this is not seding out the right message, and We need to put the right messages out there. The snub bag 2012 objective is no different to 2008, the message is the same, to raise awareness of climate change. No matter how small the change is, changing 1 thing in our shopping habits, ie using our own bags, can cause a ripple effect. I have not asked the SSBA to support the scheme, because I feel the scheme should be Cleaner Greener Safer sponsored for obvious reasons. The bags are capital not revenue. I sometimes wonder if Southwark council word their funding applications, correctly. I have applied for Transition and CGS, and on every occasion I have been given different explanations on what is Capital and what is revenue I hope that has clarified, and justified SNUBs applications. going back to my original question, you have not answered in a very round about way. Is the roundabout under a protection order?
  9. Hi I apologise if the following statement has been repeated, but I did not have time to read the whole thread re the roundabout, as I have been busy begging on another thread re the Dulwich community garden. :) Hint hint James. I asked James a while ago, if the roundabout had been put under a protection order, or something similar, a few years ago? A resident of Dulwich and I had this discussion a few years ago, when there was a proposal put forward by a local community group to get rid of the roundabout. Does this sound familiar? Can we find out, if the roundabout is protected? Does the National trust have an involvement with the roundabout? I have a very strong feeling of Deja Vu. Why are you proposing to use CGS money to repair the roundabout, when it is the responsibility of Southwark Highways? I read your regular column in SE22 James, and looked at your list of applications for CGS funding, and yes two of SNUBs projects have applied for funding.(blatant plug) However I was under the impression, and this was confirmed by Southwark officers who work for highways, that Southwark Highways, who are predominantly funded by TFL, are responsible for funding traffic calming measures. For example speed humps and Zebra crossings. Look forward to your reply as always James :)
  10. Hi All Hope you are all keeping warm. I am on the beg again.>:D< If there are any lovely garden center managers or staff reading this post, then you are obviously interested in the progress of the Dulwich community garden. Alek our lovely landscape gardener has promised to donate some top soil, however we need more. So please ( Im on on bended knees, not great with my dodgy back ) lovely garden center managers/staff could you please donate some top soil to our community garden. Funds are limited, and although I am currently looking at other funding streams, it may take a while. Look forward to hearing from you, and as always watch this space. :)-D http://snubdulwich.org.uk/
  11. Thanks Sue, seeds are always very gratefully received, so they can be planted next year. To add on to my previous post, we will also ask for seeds in the next plant donation day :)-D
  12. The Dulwich community garden team at Dulwich hospital, would love to see the land next door (we have called it 7 acres) :)) used for the community. A retirement village sounds great, a good well equipped community centre, that can serve the whole of the community, should also be a possibility. Apparently there is a consultation day in August for 7 acres. Sorry name is stuck now, but it is 7 acres of unkept land which seems to be breeding dumped mattresses at the moment.
  13. Hey all, me again. Latest update on the Dulwich Community garden, is phase 1 of the raised beds built and installed by Barry and his team at Mc Govern carpentry and Design, is planned for the 4th March, weather permitting.:)) We are also planning another plant donation day, however because the theme is Physic garden, we will be asking for specific plant donations. So if you have any spare Nasturtiums, Pulsatillas, Lemon balms, fennel or sweet thyme, and you would like to donate them, please hold on to them, for the next planned donation day. As always guys, watch this space for updates. Thanks as always :)-D http://snubdulwich.org.uk/
  14. Hi Forumites Hope you are all well. Thought I would to update this thread with answers to questions I have been asked re the project. Thanks guys for the continuing interest, however I need to clarify this is not a SNUB project as highlighted in the Subject matter. Heather Burrell who is chair of the Vale residents association, and the brains behind the community garden, was introduced to me by James Barber. SNUB were looking for a community garden project. James bless him thought Heather's project, and SNUBs Success with the gardens for Schools project, would work well together. And we do so, a big thanks to James Barber. SNUB approached Gardens for Schools Sponsor, Mc Govern Carpentry, who had built and installed the raised beds, at Goodrich, Summerhouse, and Goose green School, in 2009/2010, who were very happy to continue their support, and sponsorship for the Community garden project. Along with funds from Groundwork london, cash and in kind support, and the Goose is out event, donations from the commumnity, and local Gardener Alek Nickolic ( did i get it wrong again :))) we can now carry on with the garden. SNUB have been successful, in East Dulwich, simply because we have a great community, who want to participate in community projects. SNUB ED's mission statement. Thanks again ED, and yes Community action works, and oh yes it rocks :)-D yay http://snubdulwich.org.uk/ Edited because my punctuation and spelling is atrocious, despite previewing the post :) SNUB ED
  15. Really guys just let it go, CPZ did not happen, its gone now, done. Move on please and I say this with love :)-D
  16. Hi All Just an update re the funding from Veolia, unfortunately we did not get it, too many applicants, way too many worthy projects. Just like ours.:)) So onwards and upwards. A delightful amount was raised at the Goose is out Fundraiser, plus we have received in kind support from Groundwork london, along with a cash fund. We have also received great donations from the community, and our amazing Sponsors Barry and his team at Mc Govern Carpentry are making and installing all the raised beds. Plus we have the plant and top soil donations from Alek our generous gardener, so far, I think we have done remarkably well yay. :)-D. So as always ED watch this space, for any updates, and we will keep you posted
  17. And I am going to vote get the keys to the community notice board off JB, for taking down the posters re the CPZ consultation. There are 2 guardians who hold keys to those notice boards, on Northcross Rd and by the station. Mr Barber and myself, poor show all round, JB!!! >:D
  18. Hi All A massive thank you to all you lovely people who attended the Dulwich community garden Fundraiser, at the DHFC on Sunday. A fantastic time was had by all, and we have managed to raise over ?1500. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the door, made and sold the cakes, generally ran around and did all sorts.A big thank you to Dulwich Hamlet football club for letting us use your lovely space for free. A heartwarming thank you to the musicians who donated their free time and talent to the event, and finally thank you Sue and Nyge for having the foresight of coming up with this amazing idea, and making it into a reality. The Dulwich community garden project, and I think I can say this on behalf of Heather, project manager and Vale resident's association chair, the Vale residents association, SNUB (me, Stewart although he's bikes pm, Hannah and Zoe,)and Robin Crookshankhilton, our lovely lib dem councillor, who is not on the garden project, however has been very helpful. Thank you Goose is out, we love you guys. Watch this space guys Community action rocks, and they were rocking on a lovely Sunday afternoon at the DHFC. Yay :)-D
  19. Thanks to those who are buying tickets, even though they cannot attend, its a lovely gesture, and it shows what a great community we have here in East Dulwich. :)-D Thanks guys
  20. Thanks Admin, we love your community spirit :)-D
  21. Hi All Just to say a big thanks to all those who have bought tickets to the Fundraiser event organised by Sue and Nyge from the Goose is out. Tickets can be bought from the Goose website, and Healthmatters, Lordship Lane All proceeds will go to the Dulwich Community garden. As yet still no funding, only in kind support, and the project have already done so much. :)-D
  22. Lol Charlie, good idea, we need a form of slow movement at the moment, Life is getting a bit to fast for my liking. Edited to add, Do not forget we have the Goose is out fundraiser this Sunday at DHFC from 2pm onwards. All proceeds are donated to the garden fund. If you fancy a jig on a Sunday afternoon with your family, then get yourself along. Great raffle prizes, good food, lots of lovely cakes:)-D and of course the wonderful musicians who have donated their time for the Community garden. Community action rocks guys yay:)-D
  23. There are lots of rumours going around re the site, we (Dulwich Community Garden project) have nicknamed it 7 acres. I think the proposals are good. However It would be great to see an East Dulwich Community centre, (as we really dont have one, only various halls for hire.) With classes, workshops and a daycare centre for the elderly and disabled members of the community. I know Southwark Council may not want to/cannot fund the idea, however there are funders like the lottery who have funding aimed at projects like the one I have suggested above. Last I heard Guys had bought the land, however its just another rumour. Any further updates James?
  24. As a proud member of the East Dulwich community, I have been reading this thread, as and when I log on to the forum. This reminds me of the David and Goliath story, apologies If I am repeating, any of the other posters comments. However as a community, and we have built an amazing community, we (David) need to come together and fight, Goliath (Southwark council) Clearly there will always be a minority of the community who will want the CPZ, not surprisingly the minority live within the CPZ zone. However we live in a democratic society, and we have the freedom to have our opinions and ensure our opinions are heard. The overwhelming evidence, that the CPZ is not wanted or warranted by the ED community, and the ongoing subjective comments by James Barber leaves me with the desire to go to both meetings and make sure my voice and opinions are heard. I lived in a CPZ area, for 8 years, South Norwood. Now Croydon council who introduced the CPZ are trying to regenerate the South Norwood area, who's economy depleted not long after the CPZ was introduced. False economy springs to mind. So lets make sure our voices are heard at these meetings, details of the meetings can be found in the East Dulwich community notice boards, at East Dulwich Station and Norhcross Rd. By the way has anyone contacted South London press and Southwark news? Edited to correct typo.
  25. Thanks Charlie, Fennel is a Phyto-oestrogen, and it can regulate the appetite. It was used in the roman times, for digestive and sexual health. ;-)The Physic garden will have a theme, we are looking at themes at the moment. Keep you updated
