Otta no-ones calling ED a shitehole (I'm not anyway), I was including the list of descriptions that I invariably here on EDF. I've been here 25 yrs and loved every minute. Things change, thank God. Otherwise we'd still be taking a bucket to the nearest stream (down by the roundabout want it ?) for our water. However, some people grow old and embrace change, others get stressed by it and deny it's right to occur.

Touch? !!!!!

"I don't remember too many nail bars in ED twenty years ago. I don't remember too many take aways either. I do however, remember a rather successful family run fruit and veg shop where Franco Manca now is and the great Walsh Glaziers opposite which was ED to the core. Selective memory Rah when it comes to the ED of old? " In 'Ye Olde ED' I remember a jeans shop where the owner would try and touch your goolies as be measured your 'inside leg', a clothes shop that you wouldn't go in to buy clothes for your worst enemy and a High St that was avoided / dead on a weekend night because the pubs were rough (Foresters anybody) and nobody wanted to visit ED for a night out. Depending on which colour tinted spectacles one wears at the time of writing, I contend that ED was invariably a shitehole, 'in need of improvement', the perfect community now ruined by blow-ins (your shade, I believe, Louisa ?), a bit edgy, or just an average slightly dull area with cheap housing. As I mentioned on a previous thread which covered broadly the same moans, this is fundamentally the (now an ED standard) "I miss the good ole days" whine .

Mitchell was great against Linares, had him down in the 5th, great composure. But the champ's seen it all before and is hard as nails. Being beaten by Linares is nowt to be ashamed of and IMO this contest proved for me Mitchell is definitely world-level, whereas previously I'd not believed it to be the case.

Foxy: "You went to the Great Exhibition for a sandwich ? A SANDWICH.. ? " No, I went there for a pint, then I had another pint, then i realised the only food i could get there without buying a proper meal was sandwich, so I had a pint and a sandwich. Weird man, shit just happens. But it was..........WONDERFUL..... !! I know, I know, a sandwich is no more than two pizzas turned face-to-face and cut in two served on a saucer !

so whats the point of the comparison with K&W ?! Come on Foxy baby, you have to work with us, you have to kinda let us in to the joke too !! BTW. At 1600hrs on a Friday the Great Exhibition turns into a massive pram park, 10 Mum's nursing a half. Point of mentioning it is... I had a WONDERFUL SANDWICH there (before baby-fest started) !
-
I think EVERYONE has been to K&W. It's a bit like saying I breathed once, it's just understood, so no mention necessary. IMO

Sue: I particularly like the fact that it's addressed to "The lovely person who lives at ......" Oh, I had something said that on it. Straight into recycling. Waste of paper.

Fox, it's simple. Get up in the morning and wear what you wanna wear, what you feel good in, what sometimes you feel a bit strong in, or whatever. You don't need to look outside yourself. Cred sure ain't wondering what everyone else is doing. I don't think you really give a toss what anyone else wears though, do you ?

Laptop Squatters (especially Cafe Nero in Lordship Lane)
KidKruger replied to Chief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
working from home in a coffee shop is pants, nosey people try to see what you're doing (and you probably shouldn't have a lot of the intellectual material you're working on out on display anyway). Best to make sure you've a sensible set-up (ie. posture) at home, then get on with your WORK. -
Louisa a mate of mine made a film predominantly about the history of Bermondsey Sq. 3-4 yrs ago, he premiered it at the Shortwave cinema in the square. It focussed on the previous layout and use of the square and also on the history of the silver market there for so many years. If I can get details I'll share with you as it sounds right up your street.

Proposal to build house in garden of 51 Crystal Palace Rd
KidKruger replied to Omega's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think also a member of public can request that a tree in someone else's garden have a TPO applied to it. I've seen this done (it pisses-off owners / developers). -
Looks like a picture of a fox laying cable, hardly tasteful. Place is a ghetto.
-
The more the better IMO and deservedly so. There'll be some real stars come out of there, based on what they're showing the last decade or two. Europe may end-up being the home of World boxing. That's be handy for the timings of big fights.

Foxy that back alley looks ace, all that colour and thought and imagination, it's so positive and inspirational. Can't wait until ED gets a fair whack of that !

Muley why do you think the murals are created by local people ? And if you mean the people who own the walls should check with their neighbours first before creating them, should that include passers-by ? If everyone likes the mural that a person creates on the side of his house, is he a tool ? If 15% do not like the mural that a person creates on the side of his house, is he a tool (or only 15% tool) ? Would respect for neighbours only be demonstrable in ED if there were absolutely NO murals, or only if there were murals that had gone up with 100% approval from 'the neighbours' (and please clarify if that includes passers-by) ?
-
Just trying to follow this thread... Foxy are you saying that these big murals i.e. the fly, cause East Dulwich to be a slum / ghetto ? I think there's a mural down by what was The Patch and a few on the side roads off LL, surely you're not saying the area is now a slum ? I'm interested primarily because if the area is now a slum, word may get around and my house value may go down, maybe it's time to bail and move somewhere that is mural-free. Would 'ghetto' impact house prices less than 'slum' ? If so can we say ghetto instead of slum pls.

oven meals, oven chips, microwave meals, almost any convenience / heat-up / 'ready meals' type of food. Which is funny because in South India 'ready meals' is thali, so huge bellyful (sometimes endless rice and sambhar) of food for a few rupees. None of it processed food.

DC - no, his name rings a bell so I've probably seen him fight before, but don't recall anything that stood out. The pundits say Grado is not an assured win for Selby, there's work to do !

What happened to the Dulwich Ukulele Club?
KidKruger replied to SingingWilks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's a bit of a generalisation because some of the little people also have ukuleles. -
Povetkin v Perez was over quicker than I thought it would be on Friday night, Perez who hurt Abdusalamov a couple of years ago. Next few weekends seems like some good bouts coming up.

It's on YouTube saw it earlier

Good for him anyways, his career seemed stunted after his loss to Groves. He's done well considering his opposition hasn't been top-tier. If Groves gets a belt too we could have a good match-up between the two (and maybe Froch swoops down out of the wings to reclaim some world titles).

Agressive woman on lordship lane last weekend
KidKruger replied to swedbuilder's topic in The Lounge
So from this thread it seems like if you attack someone in the street and an observer describes your ethnic background in an old-fashioned way then you are innocent and they are racist. And the focus changes entirely to attacking the observer. Very convenient I have to say.
