iPhone upgrade (Vodafone) - switchover time from old to new phone ?
KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
OK cheers KK, I have got the new phone all set-up from iTunes, just need a darned signal now that the previous phone has been disabled by Vodafone - they didn't say that there would be any downtime (or I was too naive to realise) and it's come at an awkward time. -
Jeez that takes some balls to share Salsaboy, I'm glad you're (seem to be) through the worst and hope it carries on that way.
-
Also be proud that you're protecting your children from your worries and stresses, many a parent are not able to do that (often through no fault of their own). If you're having trouble with mortgages (advisors) PM me, I know a guy who I've dealt with for 13 years and trust up and down, you may have the same thing going with your existing advisor but in case he's just someone you dug out of a phone book... ETA: final note.

Hopefully not entirely pointless because you have two fantastic beautiful children and feel blessed by it, and friends. The remaining worries put you (if it makes you feel better) in with most of the world's population. Except that you don't have to hunt for firewood for an hour and a half before carrying it home in the hope of lighting a fire (I admit I am making an assumption here) before cooking whatever you cobbled together for a morning meal. There's a tap (another assumption) where water comes out, saving you the journey several kilometres walk away with a 4-gallon tub to obtain the water that'll hopefully keep you all alive another day. Having said that, the grind can sometimes FEEL pointless and make us forget how lucky we actually are to be living where we are in the time we are, this doesn't fix your question - but most of the world's Fathers would literally cut their arm off to be in your position and give their families what you have done.

Would you plant a tree that can grow very large next to your house ?
KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
Leaving who is/isn't cynical to one side, it just occurs to me that you'd have to be thinking pretty short-term to install a tree that will grow bigger than the house it's next to, only 3 metres away, given the potential damage that could be caused, every 50 meters or so, over miles and miles of built-up London streets. Yes, there's an insurance/claims dimension to it but the (lack of ?) reasoning is what intrigues me. -

KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
I've no angle against the council at all, my question is really why anyone would do this. No subsidence previously. I called them, when the wall started leaning (and the pavement/kerb stones around the tree base formed a small hill to walk over). The council said even the pavement condition wasn't necessarily the tree's doing. Since then the road has been resurfaced and the road relaid - now, 4 years later the pavement / kerb stones (only) around the tree are buggered and the neighbour's front wall leans more. It seems obvious that you wouldn't plant a 40ft tree 8ft from a house, if you care about the house. The ends of the tree's branches touch the house. I obviously wonder about the front of my house and any effects which may develop to it's detriment. -

It's a jump from a 2.5 yr old iphone 3 to a 5. The sim is in new phone, you have to call Vodafone to do the switch. -
If not, why do the council ?! Council planted a sapling 10 years ago, it's now as tall as the 3-storey Victorian houses 8 feet away. I'm sure the roots aren't clever enough to know that undermining the house may damage it so they should grow the other direction. So why do they plant trees that they know can grow so large so close to My neighbour's front wall is leaning where it was not beforehand. Council say you have to PROVE it's their fault by: a) demolishing the wall b) dig 4ft deep to find evidence of roots passing under the wall c) engaging a licensed surveyor to assess the hole/roots and compile a report d) share the report with council who will then think about it Council also said not worth chopping a large tree like this down even if IS their fault, because the reduction in water absorption may itself cause structural problems. The people on street were not consulted/advised before the trees were planted. Seems to defy not only common sense but respect for people's property to me. I'm sure the tree roots are not trained to respect property so what is going on !?

HA ha !! Classic.

Maybe these people are who knocked on my door on Wednesday 8pm-ish. I could see 3x people through the mottled glass. Who is it ? Can I just have 2 minutes of your time ? Who is it ? Can I just have 2 minutes of your time ? So I just walked back to still-warm dinner. I always ask first now, to avoid avoid a pathetic waste of time.

Yes I agree, in winter it's too cold, dark and wet and in summer it's too hot and bright and you dehydrate, the seasons in between are a combination of the two which completely rules out the prospect of going out for a run at all. darned weather !

difference between disagreeing with a comment someone makes and making out he has a problem with 'gay', which is what a couple of posters have tried to do. -

Nothing wrong with the way El Pibe described his experience. Give it a rest. Fools trying to pick on his comments - God knows how you manage a conversation down the pub (presuambly you act better to avoid looking stupid in real-life). -
Clio731 - what a load of old bollox. If people have their own ways of labelling things like streets or folks who live on streets it really is no big deal - it certainly doesn't mean you or anyone else is under pressure to subscribe to the same terminology ! I've heard the 'Grover' expression with other streets (groves) and it's more a play on 'Groover' than anything else, not something specific to East Dulwich. We'd all love Dave The Butcher back (he'd fit in a treat I reckon) but those days are gone. Sounds like you've got a right chip on your shoulder about the change in demographic (but perhaps not about increase in your property value, no - hold on, you sound poor, so it won't apply to you).

I saw a dog chew all the flesh off a little girl's lower arm in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, a few years ago. No way was her hand ever going to work again having been stripped bare to the bone like that. Shocking sight. It took about 2-3 mins. She'd tried to stroke the dog. Arguably things are different out there. Still a dog though. Scares me when dogs off lead come near my kids too. It's bit like Carter waving his unloaded gun around in the garden, the observer knows not what the actual danger really is, so is liable to fear the worst and may 'over react' in order to try and avoid injury.

Presumably in 1000 years they'll be coming across our (now) ancient graves and they'll be able to identify the skeleton as female by the still pert rubber titties and Botox rubber lips ? Save archaeologists a lot of bother that will. So not an entirely useless activity after all.

if it's obviously personal waste, have a look through and when you get an address, call the council and dump the stuff in their front yard. Someone mentioned a few weeks ago that they'd found loads of cardboard packaging (from furniture or something) and found the address label on it !! Someone's from Dunstan's Rd I think.

Is it safe to run to Denmark Hill at 6am in the morning
KidKruger replied to reneet's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nothing can be discounted off-hand, a woman runner was attacked in Dulwich Park on a weekday in mid-afternoon a few weeks ago, so a dark quiet area half-way to Camberwell is surely at least equally dangerous a location. I'd say to my missus yeah go for it but as others have said, no headphones or gadgets, stick to popular roads and don't respond to distractions from people.
