  1. alcohol and depression, man, that's not a good combo.
  2. had a look at that link. "UPVC windows have a life expectancy of between 10 to 30 years before they yellow, chalk, bend or the seals fail." - think I'd rather maintain my windows a couple of evenings/weekends a year. On average it takes between 60 and 100 years for UPVC windows to pay for themselves in ". - so they NEVER pay for themselves because in 60-100 years, at best, you've refitted them 2-3 times. Whoever said it's a "NO BRAINER", was, in fact, spot on. I eat my words. It IS a no-brainer, but in respect of going with wood !
  3. I'll be popping down mid-evening for a butcher's, I saw a picture a while back of what the old station and forecourt looked like before the buildings were put up in front. That would be a freat state to return to. Any clazed covering will surely be filled with the same chain shite like Costa. If the forecourt were created I'd hope that could be a site for community events in the future.
  4. dwhite11: "...I don?t think you?re at all far off with the lining pockets theory, Southwark council has it written all over them." I'd hope this is untrue, but having protested against some illegal, unauthorised building work that happened in ED (for which retrospective planning applications have been refused), sometimes you have to ask yourself what exactly is going on here. Rules are breached, council point this out, planning applications are submited retrospectively, they are refused, structure still stands, neighbours all complain, freeholder in question makes an appeal., that is refused, building still stands. It can FEEL like Southwark have no spine or are on the take.
  5. rye_lass: "I'll admit I haven't read the whole thread - but has anyone tried to meet with the owners to discuss the objections ? .....you can't beat speaking to someone face to face". The way the GE polled local opinion before applying for the licence extensions ?!
  6. i think you'll have to make your case if you think there is one, looking for a precedent (outside your own organisation) will be totally subjective and open to challenge. Unless you're covering exactly what the senior does there's obviously less of an argument for securing pro-rata what the senior earns. The organsiation willprobably be still paying the senior something and may not want to 'double' the wages requierd to cover her role, by paying you extra. Maybe you can earn/store days off in lieu. If you're getting additional experience, is that not a good incentive in itself ? Perhaps, given the pressures in some organsiations, your asking for additional payment will be viewed as not being a team player supporting organisation objectives. Do you know the senior woman wellenough to suggest/request some of the cream falls on your shoulder ? Whatever you decide to do please do not follow the dire example set by some Britons in striking during the Olympics !
  7. reetpetite - was the bread from the freezer ? I note you have provided 2x pieces of inane news, one which is present and one which is anticipated. The prediction of a forward inane news event is taking this thread to a whole other level, for me.
  8. personally (though I admit to being a keen amateur tradesman) I like maintaining my house, there's something 'honest' about it, for me, especially the windows. Some of my windows are from 1866, the rest from intervening replacements. I'd genuinely like to know how how LONG the plastic windows last, could they match 148 years or longer. I have thought about UPVC for the rear of my house, which suffers by far the harshest weather conditions in rain/wind.
  9. A mistake, the third apple sticker ACTUALLY reads: - Savid (certified Organic) Dominican Republic #94011
  10. My apple stickers read: - Red Chief #4105 - Costa Brava (with symbol of a red apple) - Savid (certified Organic) Dominican Republic #940111
  11. Surely it's down to people's choice ? ..which means it is very much a 'Brainer', actually.
  12. The cat coughed-up a fur ball, unusually, in it's litter tray (a welcome change).
  13. being so big in Judo does not always work in your favour, once off-balance you could have a tough fall coming your way. Trick is to find out when he's competing so we can see that happen.
  14. uncleglen I put a list of like 15 amended celebrity names. I was 're-aligned'. I removed the offending 15-1 entries. I MAY share them, drip-feed stylee, IF I feel like it in the future.
