  1. Probably cause is other forumites testing out their new hi-fi equipment. If not then a real coincidence I think. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1197495

  5. Open a bank account? Metro Bank will open an account in 15 minutes over the counter and issue you with a card there and then
  6. This may belong in the For Sale, or Wanted threads...a while back I read of a group who collected unpicked fruit from people's gardens in return for a bottle of cider or perry. Any idea who does this? Loads of fruit going free in our garden, shame to waste it...
  7. You can get Ocado and Waitrose to deliver. Why would you want to actually go into a supermarket? For anything fresh like bread and olives I can simply pop into Franklins or the ED deli, both very reasonable priced compared to Sainsburys or Tesco I believe.
  8. If you're on a budget, download Mint Linux for free, very similar layout to Windows, comes with an office package compatible with Microsoft Other versions of Linux available but this is probably the easiest transition. Otherwise...your computer is unlikely to accept Windows 7/8, so the only other option is to buy a new one...
  9. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My bike reads 7.1 miles to Oxford St, so probably > not far off with the distance from town, by road. To be pedantic, Charing Cross is the point from which all distances to/from Central London are made, and the distance from ED Police Station is 5.1 miles
  10. Will it be an arrested development?
  11. The particulars are inaccurate - they quote North Dulwich as being the nearest station at a mile away (ED is around 0.5), and it's about 5.5 miles to Charing Cross, centre of London; not 7
  12. Andersons...isn't that the shop in Peckham that served me a god-awful black coffee? Price was ok; service slow, as the bearded hipsters new glasses were probably too weak to see the customers...
  13. Each to their own, but why you would go to somewhere like Croydon or Bromley (I too feel the life being sucked out of me in these places) when you live in zone 2 and central London has everything you could possibly want? If you have a lot to carry back, take a minicab...
  14. You'd be cheaper employing a qualified solicitor do it for you. And no mention of what happens if you get moved into a higher band. Beware!
  15. There is the risk that the property could be allocated into a higher band following the appeal, resulting in increased council tax payments. If the person explained that risk, and you're happy to accept that risk - and hand over your personal details to randoms knocking on your door - why not? Personally, I would advise against it, and have a read of the website above. Then appeal yourself if you meet the requirements. 10 minutes max to determine if you're eligible. Oh, if you do want to use someone to do it for you, they must be registered with the MoJ as a claims handler: http://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/search.aspx
  16. It is possible and quite straightforward, but it's something you do yourself, not collectively, so it does sound like a scam. You have to ask what's in it for them? http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/council-tax-bands-change
  17. In my early twenties, I got a call from the US one afternoon at work, and had a fairly informal chat with the caller about a bloke who used to work in a different department. I painted a fairly rosy picture as he had been a good mate at the time. It was halfway through the call that I realised this was effectively a reference and that it was totally against company policy for me to help (all requests go to HR who provide a standard written one). The caller was a company somewhere in Nevada. My Managing Director was sitting right next to me and didn't suspect a thing. Anyway what Laddy Much says, quite legal.

What would have happened had it been a fast moving toddler or jogger? (Yes, I agree the bloke on a bike should have been on the road not the pavement).

LadyDeliah kindly gives the lightning and red lights Lottery is 1 in 14 million (and I mean the jackpot). Plus you have to buy a ticket, which increases the odds :-)
  20. And that's something I totally agree with, I've had arguments with such nutters myself. The OP's first post read like he had no concern for the injured lemming, that's what I have an issue with.
  21. Statistically speaking you're more likely to be struck by lightning, win the lottery or be killed by a motorist going through a red light than be hit by a person riding a bicycle on the pavement. So what's your point - are you lumping lemmings like the one you describe with all cyclists in a ploy to bash cyclists? It just sounds like you've been waiting your entire life to view an accident like the one you desribe!
  22. You value an inanimate object more than a human being?!

But please don't > assume everyone's capable and socially aware of > everything like some of you are. From TfL's figures, just 0.03% of people prefer to pay cash (the remainder have forgotten to top up their oystercards). We should spend ?24 million a year subsidising that?
