  1. DulwichVillageLady, your spelling, syntax and grammer is appaling. We presume you were a poor performer at whichever substandard school you attended.
  2. Don't get the Gatwick Express, get Southern or FCC (they run all night), takes 5 minutes longer for a quarter of the price (?5.10 as opposed to ?19)
  3. Get off at East Croydon and catch the 197, tfl shows you can leave Gatwick as late as 2353 and make the second or third last one
  4. Bus cash fare is ?2.40. As said above, if someone vulnerable gets on a bus and can't pay, the driver should let them on. If not I'm sure someone on the bus will help - I have three contactless payment cards and an oystercard and would be willing to pay.
  5. Can anyone here seriously tell me that their child carries around ?2.40 with them at all times? That's far more likely to be lost, spent or stolen! Anyway, academic now as cash fares no longer accepted. Has armageddon happened?
  6. If other major cities in the world managed to do away with cash payments starting 20 - 30 years ago, then it makes sense that London finally catchs up. And makes a fuss.
  7. Not mine, but our car does sit for about this length of time between uses sometimes..
  8. How quiet are these Dells? Are they comparable to laptops?
  9. I walk to/from Peckham Rye to the top of Barry Road most days - 25 mins. When I do get the bus it's a maximum 10 minute wait.
  10. Some observations: My current car is a 15 year old Volvo s40. It has 135,000 on the clock, 110,000 when I bought it five years ago from one previous owner. Passed every MOT with on average ?100 repairs (including a regular oil change). It's never let me down. High mileage usually suggests that it's been driven on motorways, with the engine operating at decent revs, at the right temperature, and little wear to anything but the tyres. Low mileage means having been driven short distances, rarely warming up fully (not a good thing), with lots of wear on the clutch, gearbox, brakes, suspension from speed bumps/potholes etc.
  11. Cheered me up at 0630 seeing that fly over Dawson's Hill
  12. Does this professional person have a name? Is he accredited and fully insured? Why post just a mobile number and nothing else? Without these details sounds like an advert. For someone dodgy. Especially as you're a new member.

Iran's football crazy, and they're in Group F this year. Always fun watching them play the USA in a pub where Iranians congregate! Although you'll have to keep your beer consumption discrete if you go out there.
  14. The Fred Francis day centre is on the right hand side. Heber Rd is on the left.
  15. Is this the eyesore next to the day centre? With a smiley face cigarette and slogans like "rents too high, pants too low"? Yes, it's being demolished. No, it's not worth anything.
  16. Modern ones are flush fitting with a cover, so they're pretty unobtrusive - less so than smoke alarms - and pop down when activated.

Given that the Post Office don't guarantee their checking service, that half the price is for postage, and that the internet is littered with complaints about the service (not properly checked), there's many who disagree. If you can't fill in a form properly and check your own photo, it would be a miracle if you manage to book a flight...
  18. Also don't waste your money on the post office "checking" service - just make sure you fill in the form correctly yourself!
  19. They may not repair it under warranty if they find out it wasn't done by a qualified electrician. You'd have to really bodge it for them to suspect this. In other words if you know what you're doing then just go for it.
  20. * Yes * Sounds a good choice for rush hour, any way that goes against the flow coming into London...

If not, then opening them won't create enough draft (the original Victorian sash windows, opened top and bottom, create a suprising draft. They weren't stupid).

Having bought two houses with a full survey over the years, I'm deeply sceptical. "Normal movement for a Victorian property" proved to be subsidence, "recent re-wiring and modern consumer unit" were non-compliant with regs (the Solicitor uncovered that one). And the large damp patches one surveyor deduced to be from condensation were actually caused by damp. For my third property I'll be doing the surveying with a builder friend and not relying on the surveyor. Oh, and we budget 5-10% of the purchase price for improvements. If you don't need it that's a bonus.
  23. Might I be Devil's Advocate and point out that road users who collide with the vehicle in front are usually held liable? That doesn't excuse the actions of the skateholder...just that Police would probably find the scooter driver at fault also.
  24. If you're knocking out chimney breasts (building control) and wanting to convert your garage (planning permission) then the council needs to be involved for starters. There are some posts on this forum for builders/architects who have experience of dealing with Dulwich Estate and will be able to help...
