Been a long time since I was there, but with just a week: ration your time to one night in Tel Aviv, rest of the time split between Jersualem and somewhere like Acre in Galilee from where you can visit all the major sites and more. Avoid Bethlehem unless you really want to see it for religious or historical reasons, not much there... Bus and train travel is easy and safe with the usual precautions. I'd get a copy of Lonely Planet, my diary is in the attic somewhere. Petra in Jordan is easy to get to, but at least 8 hours by bus. As zeban says avoid Eilat, a middle-eastern Benidorm

Could have been people who realised they had the wrong house number and scarpered? Or kids, that's been going on since the dawn of time. I'd only be concerned after the third time, when I would call 101.

Call them first thing tomorrow to discuss. It's not worth compromising even if you're happy with the builder, both your safety and nightmare when you come to sell. Depends, but usually BC come round to inspect and sign off at the end, or regular during the works if complex. BC fee varies but sounds about right for form filling and doing all the calcs.

Jackons - why do we need another estate agent
Lowlander replied to EDdownunder's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There will be a cull in a few years time when online only sales take off. -
If you love Which magazine why are you questioning their findings? Personally I think it's an anachronism in the internet age when you can do all your research online for free (and find products Which don't know about). Any big brand kitchen (i.e. one with at least a 10 year guarantee of sorts) will be fine as long as you like the finish. The key is getting a good installer. Wickes and Howdens are liked by installers because they can get good discounts. On the other hand Ikea do nice finishes and have deeper units.

There have been some pretty horrific examples of abuse, they just don't get widely reported...

Racism, antiziganism, antisemitism, gingerism...no point in semantics, it's the last tolerated taboo. And tolerated only because they only constitute about 2% of the UK population. It needs to be stopped.

British Gas Electricity Meter Inspection
Lowlander replied to chesterpuss81's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Err, the only time you have to let someone into your house is if they're accompanied by uniformed police officers and have a warrant. Always ask for ID, then phone up the company they purport to be from (using a phone number you look up yourself). All utility companies carry ID, it's mandatory. Sadly, there always have been and always will be con-artists around. Finally, it would be Transco who inspect the meters, not British Gas.. -
Great for rental properties or as a quick fix if you're looking to sell. Otherwise it just ends up looking cheap and knackered after a year. I would spend as much as you can, and go for engineered flooring if possible - avoid laminate altogether.

Not one was caused by raw milk. You've more chance of getting it from salad. To add to that, no-one has caught TB from retail raw milk for decades - to sell it you have to jump through hoops, the hygiene is scrupulous
-
Tasty. To all the health nazis; yes, pasteurisation is great, but (a) give me a choice and (b) the standards for *retail* raw milk are so strict you've more chance of getting TB from someone spitting in the street.

Burbage, you could go to somwehere like moneysavingexpert and get a rebate on the commission (~?30) for switching suppliers. Anyway, do change as you'll likely save money.

Easy money Why would OS7 prevent this? -
We went last year. Wine was surprisingly very good. Food good for the price, 1970s French aimed at the English (overcooked rack of lamb, thick gloopy sauces), but reasonable. The decor was original 1970s too...you could smell 30 years of cooking and nicotine...an absolute blast and like being in a museum. Good service and like being in a timewarp. Great for those in their 50s/60s...a one off experience so for the younger crowd. Sorry Louisa, but the world revolves and changes constantly. I don't either want ED to be a Clapham clone, but we do need to update things.

Lordship Lane by Goose Green end has restricted parking for 20 minutes only at some times, as do a few bays on some side streets. Free parking everywhere else so just tell your friend to park off Lordship Lane and check to make sure she's not parked in a restricted/disabled/doctor's/car club space...

advice re: morning trains to canary wharf pls
Lowlander replied to seemster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I sometimes take the 0745 and sometimes get a seat. It's fine. It takes 2 minutes to get down the escalator onto the Jubilee platforms and I can be in Canary Wharf for just after 0800. The problem is that arriving at Canada Water after around 0815 you have to let a few trains go before you can get on, and it can take 15 minutes to go one stop! -

Homeopathy is a recognised placebo, even the NHS use it, and many consultants are in favour for minor ailments. The problem starts when people think it's a cure for serious illnesses...

I would report to Thames Water ASAP, that must be an issue with your household piping. There are many reports showing that even head chefs and wine critics cannot tell the difference between London tap water and expensive mineral water http://www.which.co.uk/home-and-garden/heating-water-and-electricity/guides/switching-from-bottled-to-tap-water-/tap-vs-bottled-water/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1572840/Tap-water-beats-bottles-in-taste-test.html

What did the lewisham yard say? Did you get it back without paying, and did they have any record of where they got it from? Congrats on getting it back!

I'm after a building control sign off document from 1985 (may not exist, we have the planning permission letter from then). After days of trying I finally got through, but the lady couldn't help as her system didn't go that far back; got an email address but no response. Can't we go to the one stop shop in Peckham?

Apple have stalled. Many people who have bought their goods will remain, because they've bought into the Apple ecosystem. There is nothing new in the release pipeline, and without the charismatic (ok, not to everyone) Steve Jobs, they'll now go back to where they were in 2002, serving a niche market, albeit much bigger than before. Yes, the goods are over-priced (you can take a broken iPhone4 into the store for example, and they'll replace it for ?120 if they can't fix it). The marketing you describe is true. But...they have brought technology to the masses, and technophobes love their support. On that I can't fault them. And, if I wasn't so mean, I'd probably buy one myself
