Police information for our areas.
Administrator replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Apologies John "The First Surrey Rifles - Vimy Ridge - 23 May 1916" did not appear to be related to East Dulwich, so I moved it to the Lounge. Number of hits does not imply usefulness PeckhamRose, if it did then Community Veg Swap is more useful than this. -

Don't worry, I am around, just too busy to reply straight away. I won't make this sticky but will put it on the useful info page if I get time to trim it down first. -
So I looked at the database last night and the pm_messages table was huge, then I looked at the settings and the number of allowed PMs was unlimited (or 1,500 I can't remember as i'd been on a session with the ladies from the bridge club) and I thought who needs unlimited PMs, 300 should be plenty. I was wrong it turns out so I've upped it back up to 1,000. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Is anyone else finding the forum slow at the moment?
Administrator replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
In the last week there have been 645,000 page views to 25,000 visitors which is lot for the server to cope with. We can't afford to upgrade the server so it is going to be a bit slow for some of you, but I will do an upgrade again on the server later to see if that makes a difference. For the techies: Webmin tells me Package updates: 120 package updates are available Webmin version 1.550 is now available, but you are running version 1.520. If anyone is a server wizard and wants to offer their assistance in speeding it them please contact me. -
Possible to separate property for sale & property to rent?
Administrator replied to esme's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for the suggestion but I want to keep the forum down to as few sections as possible, as Huguenot suggests the amount of use of the residential section does not warrant the additional space. And I'm always open to suggestions, if it wasn't for them there'd be no Family Room, no separation between the Wanted and the For Sale section and even the Residential section came from a suggestion too. -
Unfortunately the software does not have the ability to distinguish who is irritating then disallow them from repetitively posting.

The person in question is someone we are currently taking action against, and all their inappropriate posts (and references to them) are being removed. If you wish to declare your love to someone in future I suggest you do it in person, soberly and in front of an enchanted moon in Paris.

Hi Not that I'm aware of. Have you received a joint PM?
-
Posting a duplicate thread eh? Now that's another offence... but anyway you can now post in the ED Issues & Gossip section.
-
Because you were sent a polite message a few days ago asking you to not post messages about businesses in the gossip section, please post them in the businesses section. You then posted another message about ED businesses in the gossip section, so a block was put on you posting in there because it's a waste of my time having to continually clear up after you.

It does not offend me. You were expecting it to be moved anyway "I will wait stoically until this thread is moved..." so with that foresight you should have made the title less ambiguous. I would however request that you keep the ED Issues and Gossip section to discussions about ED issues and gossip.

We don't monitor the forum 24 hours a day, and we don't read all the threads. We do 'sweeps' of the forums every now and then where we tidy things up but we would not touch a few football threads in the Lounge as they do not break any rules and who knows, they may work and become popular. We do however act on reported messages as soon as possible.

The other Goodrich Schhol thread has been removed as it disintegrated into people talking utter rubbish and was no longer serving a useful purpose.
-
Hi Alan Medic, yes we still do have a team of moderators, why do you ask?

Ding Ding, end of round one. I want to this to be a clean fight and so that means playing the ball and not the player. Yes that's a mixing up of sporting analogies that doesn't technically work but you know what I mean, discuss the issue and not each other. And stay on topic. Ding Ding. -
Try the ED business & restaurants section, you may have more luck there.

It is not an East Dulwich issue.

It's not a bot, it's an individual trolling the Lounge and a picking on a few of you. We are working with their ISP, BT, to put a stop to them.
-
Hi, they are not bots, they are an individual posting messages. We are working with their ISP to stop their abuse of the forum and its users.

Unfortunately telling us to "don't put it in the lounge please" will not keep it out the Lounge. Without reading the questionnaire we have no idea if it is relevant, perhaps you could expands so we know why?

Kid: "Teacher, the playground's a jungle out there, go deal with it" Teacher: "uh?" or Kid: "Teacher, Francesca's hitting everyone who's new in the playground and making it a horrible place, please help" Teacher: "No problem, I'll have a word" or Kid: "Teacher, there's a group of boys and girls in the playground I find intimidating, I don't want to go there" Teacher: "Oh that'll be the Dungeons and Dragons group, they're fine if you actually talk to them, here let me introduce you." Please provide me with names and events that you would like me to keep an eye on as the forum's too big to monitor the Lounge for playground behaviour.
-
Hi It was probably deleted because during one of my 'sweeps' of the forum for irrelevant content I saw it, and instead of moving the whole thread to the Lounge I decided to delete your post. I get a bit precious about the ED Issues section sometimes and I try to keep things on topic and of relevance to ED.

Hi Zaardvardlk, no chance of them merging I'm afraid, the other one maybe quite but that's West Dulwich, merging them would be a logistical nightmare; reassessing boundaries, changing titles, merging threads etc. Hi Heart108, it is not possible to delete your own messages. The Cancel button is referring to the action of editing the post, so "do you want to cancel editing this post?". If I get time I will add it to the FAQ (which needs a big update anyway).
