former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Administrator replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I did manage to see this one but sophiesofa's right, please ask questions in the About this Forum section. If I created a section for people to find out people's opinions about topics like bins, speeding on Barry Road, cycle highways, Homestall road humps etc then it would just be the same as this ED issues section. Too confusing. This thread is "East Dulwich councillor - can we help?" and is about specific issues addressed to the councillor, not really for continued discussion about topics. -
DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And another thing admin, as you are so hot on keeping > everything on topic, why don't you delete the off > topic cr@p from this thread. No balance as usual. Sorry you feel that I am unbalanced in decisions DJKillaQueen. Where the forum is concerned myself and the team have to make decisions based on various factors such as complaints (and their validity), offensiveness, keeping the peace, quelling aggressive responses, the 'flow' of thread on the forum, number of people it affects etc. I feel that taking those into account makes for balanced decisions, rather than just taking sides or giving in to the continual demands from one side. This thread is Ask Admin, it's informative and helps people learn things about the forum and part of what they learn from this thread is the sh1t myself and the moderators have to put up with from people who think they have the right to bang on and on about petty occurrences or take threads off topic with their mates. They also get to see how friendliness, politeness and simply moving on when a simple 'please stay on topic' is requested (as has happened a few times on this thread) works. That is why I don't "delete the off topic cr@p from this thread".

And on that note we shall return to Ask Admin.

Hi katie1997, people can read that in the terms. One or two decisions annoy a few people in the Lounge every few tens of thousands of posts, it really doesn't warrant a sticky thread but I agree that a few people could do a gentle reminder every now and then. Hi Karter, no it's not for sale by any chance. Hi binary_star, I don't believe there is a way for you to reverse the order. I can do it but that affects everyone and tantrums are thrown. And the Language option, I tinkered with the software and it now gives that option 3 times and I'm too scared to try and fix it in case I break something. It's not really American English by the way, all those optimized words should now be optimised.

Please keep this thread on topic.

Apologies louisiana, I agree your post was interesting however as the whole thread had to come off, and your post was in it and I'm afraid it was removed, there is no easy mechanism of splitting your post out from the rest. Sorry.

I had asked politely on another thread to please leave it out and let it lie. That was ignored. Some people don't like to confront antagonists, that's one reason the moderators and I are here, people call on us to help or step in on their behalf. Not everyone wants to fight a battle on a forum, there shouldn't even be battles on the forum, especially this forum.

ok, I have asked politely and I am now telling you. These recent posts are offensive to some people. Please do not tell me that they are not, I get the complaints: "its ok to now start a gay slating thread?" "I find it not only offensive but also pathetic behaviour for regular participants of the forum." "I personally find the whole thread offensive" etc I have removed one thread because it's unnecessary. Continued posting of messages that are offensive to others will mean I have to take further action. Please just move on and keep the Lounge a happy place.

proposed pink cycle super highway to run down lordship lane
Administrator replied to TheArtfulDogger's topic in The Lounge
That's meant to be a polite reminder by the way, it's just there have been a few complaints recently and having looked around the Lounge (I hardly ever come in here) it seems it needs a bit of housekeeping, I don't want it to be a case that the lunatics are running the asylum. -

The forum is run in way that tries to make it inclusive for everyone which is hard considering there are sometimes more than 4,000 users. It is meant to be fun and useful for the people of East Dulwich and I for one really do not appreciate people posting threads that, although tongue in cheek for some, are knowingly rude and offensive for others. It makes the Lounge, a part of the forum, a playground for a few and an unfriendly place to be for others. As it was put to be by by someone who cares about the forum they use "It doesn't reflect the general niceness of the forum and surely for outsiders looking in would wonder at the attitude of the website as a whole." Please don't just take the p1ss out of others and think you can do what you want. Just because it is the Lounge does not mean it's ok be offensive, or that you have to ruin threads by going off topic, or have digs at the people who run it so that you can post. Please keep the Lounge a good place to be for everyone, it's hard enough running the rest of the forum without suddenly realising the Lounge maybe descending into a unwelcoming playground. -
Hi Dorothy No reason really, it's just the end of one pub and development of a new one which people seem to be interested in (8,000+ views) and the discussion seems to be helping towards it's development, in fact the name The Actress" was chosen by someone on that thread so I admit I feel a bit of compassion towards it. Also the fact that the thread was started by someone asking about the venue to which Scott has started contributing differentiates it from a "The Actress - coming soon" promotional post. And there's the fact that I haven't read it for ages so wasn't aware that Scott's been conducting a continuous PR campaign, but now aware I am I shall keep an eye on it.

Ladymuck Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hello Admin, > > Erm...I posted on this thread (I think mine was > the second post)...I just wondered why it is no > longer here. Hello Ladymuck I'm not sure why it is no longer here, there's no record of it anywhere. The only reason I can think of is that you posted against one of the several of samj's posts that were SPRAYED ACROSS THE FORUM, just as they were being removed. There was no intentional removal of your post so apologies for any confusion that my actions caused.

Hi SamJ Why are we making accusations? (Notice I left out the false bit there). From the beginning... There were a few posts on the forum recommending Butterfly Nannies, and it was brought to our attention that they were suspicious. Having had issues with these nannies not following the rules of the forum previously we investigated. Here's an example of two posts: 25/08/2010 9:09 PM Author: hannah blades IP (92.7.111.55) ...I highly recommend them.... 25/08/2010 10:31 PM Author: kerry James IP (92.7.111.55) ...Would recommend them too... Notice the IP addresses are the same. hannah blades email address is [email protected] Kerry James email address is [email protected] I am only making these details public to explain my case The contact details given on http://www.butterflynannies.co.uk/contact-us/ are for n.gordon and eva.verissimo blimey they're similar! I have also been sent an email from "Hannah Blades": "I AM SLIGHTLY CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT I HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED BY ANOTHER USER. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE DIRECTOR OF BUTTERFLY NANNIES RE YOUR DISGUSTING MESSAGE ABOUT THEM. I SIMPLY RECOMMENDED THEM YESTERDAY AND NOW MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BLOCKED! WHY IS THIS?" HANNAH BLADES 07940 xxx xxx": The email address it was sent from was the email account of nyron gordon ([email protected]). And what is it with all these capital letters? Is your only keyboard having issues? And finally, samj, I put it to you that your IP address, 92.7.111.55, is the same as Hannah Blades and Kerry James, or should I say Eva Verissimo and Nyron Gordon. *theatrical pause whilst the audience gasps* Now the Fraud Act 2006 particularly the bit under the heading "Fraud by false representation" says that it's wrong to do what you have done. As I see it you have two options 1) Let's forget this issue, (just send me an email saying let's call it quits) and I will remove all traces of this sorry episode on the forum and your company must never be mentioned on the forum again. A win-win situation. 2) You continue with your threat of "TAKING THIS MATTE FUTHER AND BE LOOKING TO HAVE THE FORUM SHUT DOWN" and there will be no winners. You decide.

Exactly as expat says about hiding messages by individuals. As for the buddy list, I think that will always be a mystery, I have no idea.

Is he based in East Dulwich? If so you should state his address (or at least your street/road in East Dulwich) otherwise the post will be removed. There is a post cleverly entitled Rules for posting in this Local businesses, restaurants & trades section and in there, in highlighted bright red text it says "Businesses must truthfully state they are based in East Dulwich and include their trading address. Failure to do this results in a deleted post."
-
Hi Karrie It doesn't really mean anything, it maybe that you've pressed the back butoon on your browser, or it's your browser's special way of showing the link.
-
Unfortunately that's not possible with this version of the forum software, but if it becomes available in the future we will implement it.
-
Hi Here's a snippet taken from from Rules for posting in the Local businesses, restaurants & trades section "The most frequently broken rules which result in the removal/editing of ads: - Do not type the subject title in capital letters... Unfortunately we do not have time ... so all we can do is remove their post." So yes, I EXPECT IT HAS BEEN DELETED.

Pregnant woman smoking down Lordship lane!
Administrator replied to Ligaturiosity's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If this were a football match, and I were the referee, I would remind people to play the ball and not the player. But it's not, it's a forum, so I'm asking people to debate the topic and not descend to name calling, I get complaints when that happens. *Pulls up stool next to ???? and lights a pipe* -
Hi JenniferJane We have thought about it before but it was decided that a whole section that would get used two or three times a week would be excessive. Thanks for the suggestion and please let us know if you have any more.

Moving this to the Lounge as it is not East Dulwich specific
-
As SeanMacGabhann said, well spotted Dorothy. When the forum was first set up that description was correct however as it's grown and additional sections added that description has never been updated and so is incorrect. We will update it shortly, if you have any suggestions what it should say please let me know.
-
Sorry but this is not the Lounge, posts in here should be about the forum.
-
Sorry, I misunderstood, I have put a jobs section our suggestions list which we'll review it every now and then to see if we can improve the forum.
