  1. How about ELO? Or perhaps even 10CC?
  2. I don't think I suggested it was better, or that other nations are devoid of one. But it is different, it's particular, I like it - and I'd miss it. Most of the other half's lot are English speaking, but not British (American, Australian, South African) and we've spent a lot of time with them as such. They're great - but they are different. It's not a diss!
  3. A good friend of ours emigrated a short while back. The thing he misses the most is the British sense of humour - and I think I'd be in agreement.

  5. Is this another one of the many reasons you're moving to Plumtage etc?
  6. So Boney M are fashionable?! I must have missed that one. How about REM? Got to a be a winner there, surely?
  7. Townleygreen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > *Bob* you can be certain that Boney M DEFINITELY > do not count! In respect of fashionability, or 'body of work'?!
  8. If there's one group which has been re-appraised more than any other over the last couple of decades, it's got to be Abba.. c'mon!
  9. Anyway, 10CC, ELO, Jethro Tull - unfashionable during their time, amongst their contemporary peers certainly - but to a certain degree they've all been rehabilitated now. Add to that the touch of obscurity they have amongst the younger generation and no doubt some of their stuff will be finding its way into Hipster playlists in halls of residence up and down the land. (ok, maybe not Jethro Tull)
  10. Melvyn Bragg - top of the list ?!
  11. Don't worry.. it will be brighter. The spiral is a CFL. It's just a spiral-shaped CFL is all.
  12. Your hottest (ie brightest) CFL won't be any hotter than your coolest (ie least bright) incandescent. And seeing as you're unlikely to be replacing the latter with the former - in short - there's no need to worry about CFL heat. A 25w CFL will be 'quite warm' to the touch - but you can still touch it - unlike most incandescents! Your spiral will be fine for the anglepoise.. the spirals are just shaped that way to get more CFL into less space (as you would need to in order to get 25w). Unless it's a really small anglepoise head and a really long spiral, in which case it will look somewhat unsightly. Whether or not you like the light it produces is a different matter. (and.. no worries RD innit)
  13. I hear woodrot has something special planned. Personally, I'll be spending the day on Lordship Lane - disguised as Prince Edward and mooning startled diners in Green and Blue.
  14. But is it a reasonable sofa?
  15. Well, it would appear ONO has regional interpretations.. on googling. 'near' or 'nearest' - I always understood it as 'nearest', not 'near'. If only we could all learn to live in peace and love then these misunderstandings would not occur.
  16. That's the way I see it anyway!
  17. No. ONO = or nearest offer You're selling something for ?10. You get three offers at ?1, ?2 and ?3. ?3 is therefore your nearest offer, even though it is not 'near' ?10. "nearest" is the key word here. ie, the nearest offer you receive out of all you offers, regardless of how near it is to the asking price.
  18. It seems you have misunderstood the concept of 'ONO'. Do you sell those ermine-lined, silver-plated Haynes manuals for 70% more than eBay as well then?
  19. Some might say 'why not buy one of the half dozen or so Haynes manuals for Ford Escort and Orion which are for sale on eBay for around ?4, including postage'? The answer is clear. This isn't just a Haynes manual for Ford Escort and Orion. This is a katurner Haynes manual for Ford Escort and Orion. NO TIMEWASTERS
  20. Is the illustrated book of Alan Shearer's football career - or the Haynes service and repair manual for Ford Escort & Orion (September 1990 to 2000) still available? I'd like to get Christmas sorted early this year.
  21. Indeed.. just as I said. You can put much higher than a 15w CFL in it!
