Brendan, As I understand it, it's an unprofitable shop that can't afford the rent, which asks for donations so it can keep the unprofitable shop going - which also doubles as an after-hours hangout for a handful of people who have the time/opportunity to do so, and as a venue - only one which doesn't really have the facilities or size to be practical. They also enthusiatically promote gigs, live music, new acts etc, which is cool and to be encouraged. But ultimately the 'shop' element is non-starter; a drain on resources and (clearly) just not viable. The new setup in HH sounds like a much better prospect - lose the millstone and concentrate on what's working well. That's how I see it anyway.
  2. It is a bit chippy. But on the grounds of butting heads with someone who doesn't understand the difference between a 'subscription for music - because you want to buy music' as opposed to 'asking for help with the shop rent - for reasons unclear'.. and on account of TDM being nice people, I'll butt-out. As for Megan.. well, I'm fully paid-up.
  3. Right you are. Sorry for asking. Good luck etc.
  4. What are you (they) trying to achieve? I'm still interested, if I can find out. Likewise.. Sue.. that was to 'them'.. not to you. And for every one person who actually posts on t'internet asking 'why' there are a load of other people who aren't but are thinking the same thing. And seeing as some of those people will be the ones you need to convince to make it work, steaming in to call them kick them up the arse for having the impertinance to ask - doesn't make a lot of sense.
  5. Tell me about it, Sue. mentioning Rough Trade and Brick Lane? Too cool for me, for sure. Obviously it's a record shop that also sells merchandise and promotes gigs. But unlike Rough Trade it's not-for-profit, is often staffed by volunteers - and has asked for subscriptions and a membership to keep it going. So.. not like Rough Trade at all then. A few people have asked in the past what it was all about and how it was going to work (with interest.. me too) only to be met with a bit of a 'if you don't like it, forget it!' response. Like what? What is it? How does it work?! Sorry for asking. So I do hope things turn-out better in HH.. maybe just try and set your stall out a bit better, so to speak.
  6. Oh.. just a record shop. So it looks like you didn't 'get it' either then, markeddie.
  7. You're not the first, Lenk. Unfortunately, asking what The Dream Machine actually is is strictly taboo on here.
  8. Ah.. I know this one. Waltz in F major, modulate to the dominant (finishing with a rallentando) - and then undo her bra strap and hope for the best.

No wonder ITV's 'When Neighbours Collide' (or whatever it's called) is up to series 18.

    Watchmen

It is a bit rubbish. Risible on so many levels. And yet.. I heard/read someone else talking about it somewhere who summed-up exactly what I thought about it: they said that despite all its very obvious failings, whenever they thought about the book they couldn't help thinking about the film - in a sort-of companion piece way. I think there's something in that somewhere.

I like 'Dune' (the theatrical release). I know I shouldn't, but I do.
  13. Still looked though, didn't you? Eh? EH?
  14. The HB system was in place long before Brown 'got in' (or 'moved next door', I should say) I enjoyed a pleasant (and extended) stay on housing benefit. Thanks, taxpayers! It was a breeze.
  15. Especially not me.
  16. I thought that's what you liked about the place?
  17. At least.. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?
  18. A stitch in time saves nine. That much I do know.
  19. But Mike - a rolling stone gathers no moss - surely even you can see that?
  20. It's good you can laugh, Mike. But don't you think you're being a little selfish. Think of the children. They are - after all - our future, are they not?

But Mike, you don't understand. This used to be a receptacle of serious debate. The key issues of the day were put to the sword - the sword of truth. Men listened, argued and then shook hands - whilst women looked-on and swooned. And now? Now it's nothing but the gutter-talk of the masses. It used to be Question Time with a Pinot Noir. Now it's Yates's Wine Lodge with a rum and Coke.
  22. We could do a cultural exchange with the WDF. Two at a time. They could receive tips in sniping, self-importance and one-upmanship - as well as essential information about the queueing system at William Rose. And in return we could get some lawnmower repair tips.
  23. I'm decamping to the West Dulwich Forum. Who's with me?
