  1. Thought I'd let you know that the 3 bemused workmen are scratching their heads and talking on mobile phones as water pours out!!! Any loss in pressure and you know why.
  2. Thank you all. We went to Crystal Palace Park which was greatly enjoyed. Especially the snake eating the mouse!
  3. I have a 5 year old staying. We have made good use of the Goose Green playground and been to the Horniman which was a hit. What else is there to do locally....by the way she doesn't speak English
  4. A friend in Hackney (who also has a house in France) says they are fine...very similar to the french "petit gris" I wouldn't know as I am not a snail fan-either of them eating my veg or me eating them although it would be sweet justice. Anyway she puts them in a plastic bag in her freezer until she has enough for a dinner party.
  5. This one was a cub/young adolescent and didn't seem to be injured.
  6. Yesterday I had to dispose of the third dead fox in my garden in a couple of years. Am I just unlucky or do other people have them die in their garden as well?
  7. If you are a council tenant -yes. If not you have to get someone in from a pest control company.
  8. Read Lordship Lasses post 2 back!
  9. Huguenot The European Convention on Human Rights upholds freedom of thought, conscience and religion and the manifestation of religion and belief. It is ironic that you chose to post this, considering your name-Huguenots were persecuted throughout Europe for being different.
  10. Our group just had our first evening. Great meal, great hostess. great evening. Give it a go!

    Mr right

Oh dear....do we need a lonely hearts section?
  12. Yes-they certainly didn't do a very good job of telling me what they were there for!
  13. Very similar, if not identical sounding men, called at my door but they were saying they were seeing if I had government funding for something or other.
  14. I get a letter from the council, if my hedge strays to far over the pavement, threatening me with action (not sure what) if I don't deal with it. So they clearly do have powers. Try the environment section on the council website?
  15. It looks like this is a goer. How should we progress it. Alert those who have shown interest when we have a glut of something?
  16. Absolutely. Although I am usually flooded with fruit rather than veg.
  17. If you go to a small pharmacy rather than Sainsbury's, be prepared to defend your wish to buy citric acid. Apparenently it is used in the manufacture of heroin and they can give you the once over. Obviously I passed.
  18. The Surma is my favorite and staff are always very friendly
  19. Down our road the milkman delivers at 3.30 am
  20. Well, hopefully that's the end of it. But this article in today's guardian hits the mark http://gu.com/p/2z2n4
  21. I can't see a signature of the second picture but the surname on the first looks awfully like Martins to me
  22. Schmaltz or schmalz is rendered chicken, goose, or pork fat used for frying or as a spread on bread, especially in German and Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine. Schmaltz rendered from a chicken or goose (but not pork) is popular in Jewish cuisine; it was used by Northwestern and Eastern European Jews who were forbidden by kashrut (Jewish dietary laws) to fry their meats in butter or lard, the common forms of cooking fat in Europe (Leviticus 7:23), and who could not obtain the kinds of cooking oils, such as olive oil and sesame oil, that they had used in the Middle East and around the Mediterranean (as in Spain and Italy). (The overfeeding of geese to produce more fat per bird produced postclassical Europe's first foie gras as a side effect.[1]) Homemade Jewish-style schmaltz is made by cutting chicken or goose fat into small pieces and melting in a pan over low-to-moderate heat, generally with onions. After the majority of the fat has been extracted, the melted fat is strained through a cheesecloth into a storage container. The remaining dark brown, crispy bits of skin and onion are known in Yiddish as gribenes. Since the rendering process removes water and proteins from the fat, schmaltz does not spoil easily. It can even be used to preserve cooked meats if stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry location. This is similar to the French confit. Schmaltz often has a strong aroma, and therefore is often used for hearty recipes such as stews or roasts. It is also used as a bread spread, where it is sometimes also salted, and generally this is done on whole-grain breads which have a strong flavor of their own. And people want to throw it down the drain!!!!
  23. No. We don't think the female changing rooms are fine. Whenever I am in them everybody is grumbling. try them sometimes James....you can say "It's alright. I'm a councillor"
  24. The floors are dirty in the female changing room as well. Also, 22.2 degrees in changing room may sound reasonable but isn't. If you think of the differential between that and the lobby temperature 21.6, where people sit fully clothed, not wet and in swimming gear, you will see it is nowhere near warm enough.
  25. But they can spell
