rant about children crossing the road irresponsibly

If someone is speeding (going more than the speed limit) down that road and hits someone, the law won't say the boy didn't look, they'll throw the book at the driver. That's one reason why I still stick to 20 in a 20 zone. -

If I'm alone I'll cross even when cars are coming if I know there's time to do so - I try not to do that in front of children as they can't judge speed so well IMHO. Sometimes I think Teenagers can be impetuous or think they're totally invulnerable (I thought so) - at 18 I remember rushing across the road to catch a bus and getting run down by a taxi (first time in London and wasn't used to the roads at all) - luckily I just got up and dusted myself down. Schoolchildren living in London probably dealt with traffic better than me when I first moved here. -

So taking remain out of the equation, what mistakes have been made since the referendum last June. I'd say quite a few (looking at it from the interests of the British side), the timing of article 50, the agreement of the sequencing (Davis said he'd fight this then rolled over on the first day), preparation (civil service needed more resources), negotiating skills. There will probably be an inquest into how this was managed at some point IMHO and the government can't just say "we were following the will of the people" - a lot of decisions other than "leave" have been made.

I sometimes wait for the green man because children are there. I always press the button :) -

Waaaaaaaaah. I hate being beaten by the Irish (even though I love drinking with them) First time I've had a 30 minute ban on twitter after that performance :(

I notice Katie Hopkins is now claiming the Police were lying about the car crash outside the natural history museum and she's claiming it was terrorism. People are believing her (her audience in central London was apparently quite substantial) - so fake news with the police and media colluding is now seen by many as a thing. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/oct/09/katie-hopkins-natural-history-museum-tweets "Speaking at a Media Society event on Monday with the Guardian journalist Decca Aitkenhead, the Mail Online writer repeatedly argued that ?there is no such thing as truth any more? and why is the Guardian of all newspapers suddenly showing an interest in right wing conspiracy.

So Theresa May's audit on diversity appears to have landed. One thing that could be good about her tenure, hope she follows through.

Although I agree in this case - leavers would say the same about Brexit "We're leaving get over it" But I feel compelled to protest.

When do you switch on your central heating on again for the Winter
JohnL replied to mary123's topic in The Lounge
I prefer a colder house and putting on an extra layer if necessary. It's strange feeling cold/hot is so individual. It's harder to cool down if you;'re hot than warm up if you're cold (in my experience) -

I got twitter banned for 30 minutes last night for my colourful language after that goal :) I remember deciding to wind up the guy below as a 16 year old visiting Cardiff (he was about the same age) - my friends dragged me to a changing room and held me down to stop me. No 1 hooligan of the time apparently (and of course I didn't know) - He wasn't at the FLA march from what I can tell. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/programmes/2002/hooligans/gallery/annis_abraham.stm Edit: Like taking the knee - wearing a poppy is an individual decision - I can't understand the big thing that is made of it.

Tommy Robinson speaking at Columbia University - there's definitely an attempt to 'mainstream' the right. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/former-edl-leader-tommy-robinson-to-give-talk-at-prestigious-us-university-a3654316.html I thought once you're refused entry to the states you can't go back.

The inside I like, the outside not sure. But (if I built it) I'd prefer nice indoors and horrible outdoors than the opposite :) Ugly can be lovely anyway (Dylan there).

Nowhere near - it's still hot and I have windows open. My flat is hot though - even when I turn it on later in the year it stays on for 30 minutes.. -

White, Male and Bald all eyeballing everybody. Reminds me of a particular pub in central London now closed.

Lets see what happens with Catalonia - its very complex - and I get the feeling Trump is going to do something incredibly stupid soon (can't find the old Trump thread) but he's said "this is the calm before the storm" - some calm - maybe all this is going to be overshadowed :(.

I can just compare with the people sitting around me in my office - earning 3x as much at the least (with no unions of course) - there seems to be a huge disparity between low paid jobs and average jobs, never mind the CEOs and VPs on 500,000K+. Edit: Once I'd have said that was good - and the guys can go looking for a job paying more .. but I'm not so sure that that level of difference should exist now.

Maybe they > were too scared of the result to let it go ahead? That would mean Scotland could ignore Theresa Mays refusal to allow a second referendum and just do it ?. (I read somewhere the polls a week ago showed a majority for staying with Spain - but those voters stayed at home) I'm not pro or anti independence for Catalonia - it looks bad either way IMHO - but the vote would have been close .. "The depth of support for independence even in Catalonia is hotly disputed. Opinion polls, although of uncertain reliability, have shown a split in opinion that hovers around 50 percent." "In 2012, for the first time, 51.1 percent of respondents favored independence, according to the Centre d?Estudis d?Opini?, the official Catalan polling agency. In the most recent regional parliamentary elections, in 2015, 48 percent of voters cast their vote for pro-independence parties." https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/03/world/europe/catalonia-independence-referendum.html
