  1. Yes - you can guess I hate it - but I hated it when servers stopped being located in a back room of every office in the early 2000s :)
  2. Telecoms, call centers - 3 years ago the managers of these were saying how do you move to the cloud -now that's all been done. Companies save on corporate rental - they didn't think about the support industries like hospitality.

I'm not supplying answers - just suggesting that things have changed and they won't change back. Our IT teams spent the last few years moving things to the cloud - it was just coincidence that just as we got to the point we could work remotely we had to work remotely. I assume (as is usually the case) other companies are doing exactly the same (by the way this isn't brilliant for me as a legacy network guy - but I'll be retired in 10 years)

Silicon Valley and it's high tech mates as well as companies like Peloton are doing very well thank you. We all use them rather than walking to Top Shop to buy a hat but how do you tax them Oh yes - and many of us can work from home because work has been shifted from workplaces to places like Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  5. There were anti-lockdown protestors around London today - not sure if any were around ED.
  6. And this is the movement plan page that does state an aim of reducing car ownership but not by how much (unless I can't find it) https://www.southwark.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-policy-and-transport-policy/transport-policy/policy-and-guidance-documents/movement-plan
  7. I think the Southwark plan is the below - note petrol and diesel not all. "Adopt a local target to halve petrol and diesel road journeys by 2025, and by 90% by 2030" Recommendation 8 http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/documents/s91690/Cabinet%20response%202nd%20Review%20of%20the%20Climate%20Emergency%20Strategy.pdf So some (or much) of that gets replaced by Electric

"Announcing the new ?175m tranche of money, part of wider plans to adapt travel to the impact of coronavirus, Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, pointed to polling which shows significant support for such measures across England." https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/13/local-councils-advised-to-push-ahead-with-traffic-reduction-schemes of course we host COP26 next year and want to show BREXIT as a success environmentally.
  9. Actually if anything Biden is Nixon :) without the dodginess and shadow of course,

They are all armed and angry. Actually he's not Jimmy Carter - he's very experiences at how to work in the American system having done it for 40 years. He might be too old for a second term - but never say never.
  11. If you watched the Panorama program on leaseholders (deserves it's own thread) you'll possibly be charged using an S20 by the freeholder and insurance won't cover it.
  12. Damn ... wrong account LOL (I'm just being sarky and don't know if there are two accounts or not)
  13. Nationally, deaths are back up above 600 but cases are falling and falling more obviously in London https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-coronavirus-cases-latest-figures-tier-2-b79014.html I will be alone again this XMas (and I don't mind) but why can't people use tech - telepresence is almost as good as being there - and you get to keep some privacy :)
  14. There's a trial of rented ones in London starting in the spring - still illegal on public roads/pavements at present https://www.energylivenews.com/2020/11/19/london-to-host-uks-largest-e-scooter-trial/ Maybe knowing there's a trial coming up people aren't being stopped - but there will be no valid insurance if they're illegal.
  15. Headline Tony Blair: 'I express more sorrow, regret and apology than you can ever believe' Column below Tony Blair has rejected the Chilcot inquiry?s criticisms of his decision to lead Britain to war in Iraq in 2003, but expressed ?sorrow, regret and apology? for some mistakes he made in planning the conflict. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jul/06/tony-blair-deliberately-exaggerated-threat-from-iraq-chilcot-report-war-inquiry
  16. Trump was temporary as dictated by democracy :) The US is obviously a better place to live than many nations .. but that doesn't mean it shouldn't try and be better under Biden.
  17. This was an X-File apparently (but no the ED version) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum
  18. I think England allows you to do so - but worth checking for insurance as well (an illegal journey might not be insured and the article below doesn't list exercise - it's also November 2020). https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/drivers-warned-insurance-invalid-non-22974841 The government site says "11. Travel to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)" But what if an open space is closer to you - typical wibble wobble :) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november

    Loneliness

Reported this morning that younger people feel loneliness more during the lockdown. Is this because as you get older you have strategies to deal with being alone ?
  20. Rockets Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There is certainly a wave of pro-LTN propoganda > being pushed at the moment - there must be the > realisation that the pressure is mounting so they > have to push some of the usual hyperbole.... We pledged to reduce carbon emissions etc. etc. and now Biden is going to hold us to it. Do you notice "Build Back Better" isn't just a British or US slogan - it's everywhere across the globe. Either it was to good a slogan to discard or there is a global plan (as there should be)
  21. Anyway Boris seems chipper enough - almost as if he's glad to self isolate for a while
  22. Boris has gone back into isolation in No10 now it seems after not wearing a mask when meeting an MP (Kay Burley said "Oh Dear" when Hancock suggested they don't wear masks in No10). Who's going to be the leader without Cummings and Cain. Maybe Allegra Stratton and Carrie Symonds will run the show - they seemed to be the opposition to Cain and Cummings laddish culture..

Some people don't pick up on these rules for various reasons.
  24. I expect they test your temperature with one of temperature guns before going in.
  25. Rashford has to invest his money somewhere I guess (unless he's going to store it under the mattress or give it all away) Check your pension funds by the way - mine seems to be big american tech companies. Is that really much better ?
