TJ, as I said above, I think this is a good idea, but I'm still struggling to see how the 363 can be rerouted via Honor Oak and then still go back onto the remainder of its route to Crystal Palace Road. It would have to do a U-turn, or miss out a substantial part of the route it now covers. How do you see this working?
  3. Spangles30 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Please will this place NOT charge extra for soya > milk - and use a decent brand too. Soya milk is quite a bit more expensive than cows milk - Alpro's about ?1.30 a litre compared to 0.80 or so for whole milk. I assume that's why lots of places charge a bit more for a soya coffee, and seems fair enough to me. Completely with you on the need for places to know how to make a soya based coffee drink though. It's easy enough not to scald the milk and avoid it curdling.
  4. Nothing that easy I'm afraid. You need to go to the list of Parties (below - alphabetical order) and count down from the top, so Party 1 is Abolish the Congestion Charge and Party 2 the BNP and so on. I did a quick cross check on the total no of votes for Party 2 in Lambeth and Southwark which talied to the total amount of votes for the BNP (4945 in total), so pretty sure this is how it works. http://www.londonelects.org.uk/candidates/london_assembly_candidates.aspx
  5. The full ward data spreadsheet is here (opens in Excel), but it's not the easiest to find your way around. Open it up, find your ward and scroll right to the London Assembly Member section. The BNP is Party 2 IIRC, which would mean 77 people in the East Dulwich ward voted for them. More data here: http://results.londonelects.org.uk/Results/DownloadResults.aspx
  6. Interstingly enough, TfL was conducting a survey of the 63 and 363 routes last week (on the Tuesday after Bank Holiday Monday). Every passenger was asked to fill in a form setting out where they lived, where they were going and how they had got to their bus-stop. I did it on both my trips to and from work, so I asked what the survey was all about, and after the usual guff (ways to improve bus service etc) the surveyor said that it doesn't really make sense to have the 363 and the 63 as they both cover such similar routes. One of the options being considered is extending the 63 to Crystal Palace and removing the 363 all together, but others include different start/end points for both services. The 363 doesn't stop at Forest Hill Road by the way, but continues up Wood Vale, very briefly down Underhill Road, onto Sydenham Hill and then CP Parade. With my cynical head on, I thought the Tuesday after a Bank Holiday was a sneaky time to conduct a survey if you want to demonstrate that the services aren't full to capacity at peak time (as they normally are). The bus was half empty whereas it would normally be full by the third or fourth stop. So it might be a good time to email TFL as you suggest. The most practical option would be to extend the 63 up to Honor Oak Station, but you'd still have to walk up to Forest Hill Road to catch it. You could get the 363 more easily from where you are, but I don't quite understand how it would go via Honor Oak Park and then onto Elephant and Castle. Would involve a right turn at Wood Vale to Honor Oak Station and then a U-turn back to E&C/Peckham way. Do you have a specific route in mind?
  7. I think the one you want is next to the adventure playground at Peckham Rye Park: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/YourServices/ParksSection/AZParks/facilites.html Edited to say that I have been informed the "Bowl" is at Central Venture Park in Peckham - but it's quite often shut down "for no b****y reason at all" according to my source...off Kelly Avenue. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/DiscoverSouthwark/iSpy/ArchivediSpy06/centralventureparkopening.html http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=firefox-a&channel=s&hl=en&q=kelly+avenue+peckham&ie=UTF8&ll=51.476378,-0.075909&spn=0.00124,0.003562&t=h&z=19
  8. There's a lot of information about this kind of issue on the Southwark Council website. As Kel says, start by speaking with the store (head office and local manager). If you don't get any joy from them, move onto the Southwark Noise team. Both of these are steps that any Court will expect you to have taken before starting legal action. If you don't you may be at risk of an adverse costs order. As an aside, if you do end up in Court, you should make your application for an abatement order under Section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, not a tortious claim for nuisance. A claim for nuisance is far more likely to be compenstated in damages than an injunction, whereas there is a statutory remedy of an abatement order under the EPA. The test is easier to meet too.
  9. True enough. ;-) Although pretty similar to living in, say, North Cross Road, Matham Road and Zenoria Street in the sense that there are quiet residential streets off a main, bustling thoroughfare filled with bars and restaurants.

Nando's looks like the only possible fit, > even though the food there is disgusting, > especially the soggy chips. A friend of mine lives two streets away from a Nandos in Upper Street, but in a direct "line of sight" to their ventilation shafts. The smell of fried chicken and burning oil is unbelievably bad. I was amazed to be honest. I quite like their food, but haven't eaten there since.
  11. Be careful what you wish for. I would swap the blackbirds and parakeets for the rooster at the Horniman Museum in a heartbeat. Current start time 4:30/5am.
  12. Another vote for Halifax Insurance here. You will need to phone them up.
  13. It's not a new Town Hall as such, but a big new office for approx 2,000 council officers, to try and get the big departments on one site. IIRC, was pretty contentious when they decided to do it a year or so ago. They are also keeping the hall on Spa Road.
  14. Yes, you can vote. You don't even need photo id, but you do need to be able to give name, address and date of birth.
  15. A short update to my earlier post. Having reset my pin, I was telephoned by my bank today asking if I was currently in Streatham buying ?200+ of booze and cigarettes. As I plainly wasn't the transaction was declined and the two young men who were using a card in my name ran out of the shop. They have been caught on "reasonable quality" CCTV and my bank has said they will now refer this to the police. A new card is on its way to me. I can also confirm that I have recently used one of the outlets LC describes above, although not taking cash out of a hole in the wall.

  17. I've been reading this thread with an increasing amount of wonder - so many people affected in one area in such a short space of time? Really quite scary. I now have my own account to add: I went to get some cash out of the bank today and discovered my pin had been blocked. On phoning my branch I was told that I had entered an incorrect pin number five times in the last week. I know I haven't even used my debit card for four days and certainly haven't entered an incorrect pin. The bank's view is that someone has cloned my card, but only visually had sight of one side (so they don't have the CVV number on the back necessary to do the "not at point of sale" stuff overseas) and manually tried to take a note of my pin number as I've tapped it in. I do try to shield my pin, but it isn't always easy. The same incorrect pin was entered five times, two digits out from my actual pin. Needless to say it's now been changed. I haven't used Budgens (I mostly use cash in smaller stores) but I did buy some petrol recently from a station I wouldn't normally use. I've asked the bank to send me a new debit card, but have been told they need actual evidence of fraudulent use before they can do that, and that a pin change should be enough to secure it. Will remind them of that if someone does actually put something through my account...
  18. Not earth, but several people in our street had bins (green and brown) filled to the brim with building waste and rubble a while back. It looked very much like a builders van had flytipped waste from a residential construction site.
  19. I was thinking about this thread as I walked up Forest Hill Road last night. A young (20s) guy came out of the Chinese takeaway and walked up the street accompanied by a young, female Staff (cross, I think). For what it is worth, I would not have described him as looking like a stereotypical "chav". The dog looked happy but excitable (as teenage dogs often are) - thrilled to be outside, running everywhere across the pavement (no lead) and looking adoringly at her master. So much so that she strayed out into the road a couple of times whilst darting about the place. When she did her business on the pavement, needless to say it didn't get picked up. They disappeared into one of the block of flats at the Wood Vale turnoff. The thought that ran through my head was that a perfectly normal, happy dog was at serious risk of either being run over or turning on someone through lack of exercise and frustration, and lack of training by her owner. Dogs need exercise and discipline and this one didn't appear to be getting either. Personally, I don't think a Staff is particularly suitable dog to keep in a flat. It made me very sad for the dog, and even more so when thinking about what mandyw's daughter has gone through, and the fact that this could have been easily avoided.
  20. Another option if you want to stay around the East Dulwich area is somewhere on the ED/Forest Hill/Honor Oak borders (draw a line down Barry Road, up Forest Hill Road, down Honor Oak Park Rd and back up Lordship Lane). We moved here about 18 months ago and it feels like a good compromise/combination. Close to Lordship Lane and the Park, but (in my experience) quieter residential streets with lots of families. Transport links not as good as elsewhere in ED (we're about equidistant from Forest Hill and Honor Oak rail) but the buses are good. Some good basic local shops on Forest Hill Road. Touch wood, we haven't had any serious issues with crime and we live on a street with an active neighbourhood watch co-ordinator. So much so that my other half accidentially left our car unlocked for 24 hours recently and nothing got taken.
  21. I walked past the other day and a tall blonde lady was opening up for the builders with the biggest dog I have ever seen. Looked a bit like an Irish Wolfhound, but black rather than grey. She said "slowly" when I asked how the builders were getting on. Great news and just what the parade needs.
  22. I think Libra means that a lot of Labour MPs are getting a bit nervous about their majorities and feeling "on the chopping block" come the next election. Hence why some of them may be a bit more inclined to challenge the Government on the 10p rate.
  23. We got a copy of and responded to the consultation. We didn't vote for a "feature tree". That said, I actually think the size of the roundabout is about right considering the pedestrian crossings at the start of Lordship Lane (which I would personally like to see moved a few feet back onto the Lane, but that's another story). It forces traffic (including buses) to slow down, even when the entrance onto the roundabout from the right is clear. I've seen a couple of drivers have very near misses with pedestrians on the crossings coming off the roundabout, which might have been considerably worse if the cars had been going faster.
  24. I believe that a number of the property websites have prevented propertysnake from taking listings off their websites citing copyright.
  25. Games shop (3 of a kind is a poker hand to me)...wishful thinking on my part perhaps...
