yes, i have cycled today, no i would not recommend it. although the road part is clear the bus lanes were not this morning as no buses had used them yesterday. so everyone was squeezed into one lane. bus and taxi drivers also follow too close behind whcih made me think that one slip of my wheel would have been the end of me. it was more melty this afternoon but the bus lanes were mostly still too slushy to be trusted.

Could I suggest that with this sort of thing you make it as easy as possible for people to donate. One of the reasons I donated to the EDF appeal was that it only took a few clicks of the mouse to do so. Even if this is just posting bank details online so people could set up a SO. I'm sure if you did this asap it would increase your chances of getting the necessary money in the short time you have.

I much enjoyed the crunchmas last night at the constitutional hall, despite the absence of mr. da bank. Highlight for me and mrs. jtc was the ukulele finale with top wtf? moment provided by the mad clown. I couldn't help thinking it could be done more frequently, mining some london's other variety acts. Given the crowd there was last night I'm sure people would turn up. Although, if it was to be in the same venue the bar staff could do with a bit of training in crowd management - they worked their socks off but did seem a bit overwhelmed.

The award for the old ED shop that looks most out of place in our brave new ED. inspired by the cab place in north cross road, with it's leather jacketed drivers standing defiantly between art studios, hip hawkers and posh mum shops.

blimey, I got the opposite the other day. i turned up to collect a parcel and the guy tutted - 'can't i shut that door - I got a millon and one fings to do...not your fault mate but...' and then ended up saying 'shame more poeple aren't in when we deliver' total stereotypical grumpy postie, made my day.

Making Roads Safer in Dulwich
jim_the_chin replied to JeremyL1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i think there's a big case for certain car bans - like saturdays on north cross road. I looked at the red-dot map the night before i started cycling to work and it didn't fill me with glee. out on the road itself some of the pedistrian improvements on the walworth road seem like bike-traps to me. i wish we had dedicated cycle lanes, like grown up cities do; if we're lucky we get a painted green line in the gutter. -
Today must be about the third time this year that I've had to mount an hour-long clean up operation after one of the family stepped in dog shit - this time it was walked into the car and got on clothing too, leaving me washing clothes and scrubbing out the car. And that's before I get to move on to picking crap out of the tread of a trainer with a toothbrush. Is 3 a year about average in ED or am I just a really lucky fella?

bypassing issues of stigmatising and misconceptions over the nature of psychosis... shouldn't it be 'you're never alone with schizophrenia'

Greeting card shop to open on Northcross Rd
jim_the_chin replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Greetings is an ED institution I think, decent stock and friendly people. I bought my fireworks in there and got a ?5 firework thrown in for free, which I thought was awfully decent. -
Why can I never get a doctors appointment?
jim_the_chin replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think you're mistaken MW in thinking that GPs are there for sick people. Their systems are set up to deal with the elderly with chronic ilnesses who book regular appointments weeks in advance. Those of us - adult and child - who wake up one morning feeling ill are no longer really catered for. and FHS is not bad but I still feel I have to justify my near-death status to get seen on the day. -

Top 4 for us this season! backbone? that team was like a shoal of jellyfish. 4 shots 4 goals - daylight robbery. 68/32 possession, someone owes us two points for that.

Homecraft DIY , Lordship Lane
jim_the_chin replied to daisychain's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i've found precisely the opposite of what you say jeremy - i am a complete idiot at diy and over the past 7 years i've been in asking for a 'thing about that size'and describe it and i've never once felt the merest whiff of contempt from anyone, whatever size they are. and i'm usually a bit sensitive to that sort of thing. curious. -
Scutari/Marmora/Mundani/Therapia Roads - strange names
jim_the_chin replied to Pagey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
good history stuff here - but it doesn't explain why a corner of ED is associated with the crimea. the houses are 20's ish and the names don't roll of the toungue of surburbanites. the whim of a local council employee? -
Yes, just claimed my money back through the courts, details here, took about 2 weeks. http://www.blagger.com/db4/company_id/5115/companyname/Two-Left-Feet.html

Who cycles to work from East Dulwich?
jim_the_chin replied to willma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
depends where you're going it seems, up there Klaus said this: ------------------------------------------------------- > The route i use everyday into Soho goes down > Bellenden Road, through Warwick Gardens, down > Camberwell Groove, up Camberwell New Road, turn > right at the cricket ground, then through back > streets to Lambeth Bridge, across it, then back > streets up to Horse Guards Parade, under > Admirality Arch and in to Soho. while i'm here - i've been trawling gumtree for bikes but i keep seeing ones that i reckon are nicked - 1 year old and no history, that sort of thing. i wanted a 2nd hand one so it's not quite so nickable, or such a hit if it is nicked. should i just bite the bullet and get a new one - do edwardes still do 2nd hand bikes?
